Thank you Victor - I am on the case. I did hear of a 'better' SEO plugin than Yoast which I am exploring. 'Rank Math' - not sure about it but will investigate it.

Thanks Victor, yes that could be the reason. Yoast whirring but not loading on posts. I am not sure where / how to review the php issue or Jquery string though.

Gawd! This is not what GDPR has in mind, I am sure - the fuelling of a private law firm racket. So sad it ends up like this. I have heard, via the work I do, of similar happening in the states - robo-filing by law firms - for supposed false claims by indie skincare brand for using words like 'natural' etc on their branding. Sounds like a similar thing ow happening with GDPR. I have two more sites to deal with, and other blogs, I am simply taking offline as I don't have time to manage all the ins and outs and now these worries about some law firm digging around in them! Thanks for the warning!

I am not sure why the law firms would send that threat / 'fine'?! I can see they might try it on by harrying the poor lone blogger who is not 100%. But surely, the only entity that can issue warning letters (which is what the UK's ICO is saying come first) would be the national Data Commission in the various EU states. Sounds like private sector law firms are on the make on this one!

Don't panic, all indications are that the various data commissioners aren't going to knock on SME and lone bloggers' doors on day 1! As long as you're showing you've made the steps you can and are doing what you can ie. pp next to sign ups, and consent somewhere on the sign up trail, I think it's fine while we sort out the rest. I can't think why Gen enews ext hasn't done the biz yet given the lead up time to GDPR. As enews may be used to market, not just deliver content without brand marketing, product info etc, it's clear it should have that checkbox at point of sign up. However, if you are then linking to Mailchimp or similar and can add GDPR checkboxes on before confirmation, then it's fine. Just that Mailchimp embedded doensn't (yet) add those GDPR field either!

    Kinakuta,
Exactly! Nothing worth doing the update for quite frankly! I had already use the 'Text below form' field to enter a link to my privacy policy. And if you use the PP checkbox in the plugin, on my theme at least, it looks awful as not aligned correctly under the submit button. What we do need, as you mention, is that consent style checkbox.

I am using Mailchimp and double optin, so have basically spelled out in the confirmation email with link, that by clicking the link the potential subscriber is assenting to receiving enews with my offers, news updates etc and for email marketing purposes. I am hoping this will suffice. To me, that seems like 'consent at the point of sign up, as if they receive the verify mail and then decide otherwise, they won't be placed on my list. But, if Brandon Kraft et al could update to include a consent checkbox, nice and overt at point of sign up on the site that would be ideal.

Brilliant news! Thanks for the alert Anita. Brandon says shipping update probably Monday so that resolves my headache!

To be honest , I can't remember how I solved it but I think I ended up doing them manually all over again! Must check out Carsasmo's solution if it happens again!

I just noticed there is no Default Layout setting anywhere on the Enterprise theme now. Not under Genesis>Theme Settings. Nor under any page or post. It's completely disappeared.

Could that be why my sidebar has decided to shift itself from right to left, and also include the sidebar-sidebar>content. I now have a second sidebar slot turned up.

There must be some theme error somewhere? I have only basic plugins on this site.

Turned out it was some weird plugin conflict! But I am nonetheless using your Classic Text Widget. Thanks Victor for your help.

Help anyone! I am now getting desperate to get my text widgets to show after that disastrous WP 4.8 upgrade of the text widget. I have now followed this procedure on Christina's blog, but still my widgets don't show. Only for a flicker of a nano second on page refresh.

How to Bulk Replace the 4.8 WordPress Text Widget with the Classic Text Widget

Does anyone have any solutions to this as I need to launch a site asap and this widget issue is really stressing me. Thanks!

Just wondering why simple html like this won't show - it's in the new Classic Text Widget.

    <h2><span style="color: #fa5738;">Discover your road map to life </span></h2>
<h3><b>Back to Beautiful You!</b> Empowers you to create a life of your own design</h3>
Join a vibrant community · Reconnect with yourself · Work with me one to one

Is there a conflict with the new 4.8 text widget and that will need removing from the server to allow the Classic to work?

    Hi Victor,

I came across this forum debate on the whole new text widget issues: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/40951

Basically, without even touching the widgets post Wp4.8 update, I lost viewing the content front end. If I downgrade a WordPress version, will it revert to the original text widget? I might ask Siteground to do this.

The new classic text widget, now placed in and with old code in it, won't work either!
I would let you see the site if it weren't a clients but I can't do anything about viewing it. Sadly. I am asking Aspire team to see if they can help too - perhaps via a back-end login. Have to wait til after weekend for that though.

    Thanks

Thanks Victor, but the issue is it's a client site and they have a coming soon plugin on the homepage right now. I can't remove that as it would in effect launch the site! Am I doing something wrong with the new widget that auto updated with the latest WP?

they show visibly my content, but it won't render on the site - from either the updated text widget nor the new classic widget.

If I hit refresh page, for a glimmer of an instance, the widget content does show- whichever of the two text widgets I use. It's there, but not there if you see what I mean! Is there any info somewhere online about how to use the new updated one?

    Thanks!

    Victor,

I still can't see any widgets back on my homepage slots of Aspire. I cut and paste the text html from the old widget into the new classic widget. No change so far. Does the latest Genesis update today have any influence over this error you think? I am not sure what to do now. I guess I somehow will have to use the new wysiwyg widget recreating my coding in it?

    Thanks!

    Victor,
You don't happen to know also is the Genesis Featured Page Advanced widget also went wrong with the update. That was the first widget issue I noticed before the regular text widgets went awry.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Victor,
This is a huge imposition yet I guess we've no choice but to update to WP 4.8 for various and security reasons. Does this mean some of your client sites aren't updated yet or they are, and some widgets might be broken?

I am waiting for the cache to refresh via my IP so i can see if my change over to the Classic Widget is working. So far, no change but must be the cache.

I have three other sites I will need to add it to as they are on auto update.

    Tnx Victor.

    Victor,

OK, so from what I understand, I need to replace the current text widget with the 'classic text widget' and enter my html as before?

    Is that correct?

    Thanks.

    Thanks Victor,
Problem is there's a coming soon plugin as the site is still behind scenes and the friend doesn't wish to launch it yet.

I am confused. So I can see all my text widget content - which now shows as' visual' first. Three widgets don't show front end at all! I have quite a bit of html code creating <divs> etc on the text editor. How do I get to restore the code. Which is there, but not showing front end?

    thanks.
