March 7, 2018 at 3:38 pm in reply to: Site container is empty, where do I need to add the action in order to fix it? #217471Victor FontModerator
The site-container is opened in header.php and closed in footer.php in the main Genesis directory. It is created with the genesis_markup function, which means any filters associated with site-container are generated dynamically. They don't exist until run time.
You may want to take a look at this article to understand how Genesis Dynamic filters work: https://victorfont.com/understanding-genesis-dynamic-apply_filters-part-1/
This is about structural wraps, but you can apply its principles to mark up also.
BTW, your site-container is empty because you've removed all of the content.

I would restore the sample theme with a fresh copy and start over.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?March 7, 2018 at 6:12 am in reply to: Site container is empty, where do I need to add the action in order to fix it? #217422Victor FontModeratorMost people start building their own themes by using the Genesis Sample theme as a base and modifying it to suit their needs. Custom actions and filters generally go into the child theme's functions.php file or a file included in functions.php. Teaching you how to build a child theme from scratch is beyond the scope of help that we can provide you as community volunteers. There are some great courses available that will teach you how to build a Genesis child theme. A good one is https://knowthecode.io.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorYou have to learn how to read CSS. The problem isn't with the images or their size. Your CSS is making them enlarge to 100% width in this code:
.woocommerce div.product div.images img { display: block; width: 100%; height: auto; box-shadow: none; }
You should also turn off caching and minification while you are developing otherwise you may not see the changes you make.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorIf you want help, you need to post a link to the site or page in question so we can see the CSS. We're just volunteers answering questions on this site. We need to see your site to be able to help you.
In the meantime, if you learn to use your browser's built-in inspection tool, you can probably discover the answer for yourself. https://victorfont.com/how-to-use-your-browsers-inspect-tool/

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorTo be honest, I'm not sure how you are deriving the excerpt. There is no function in WordPress named post_excerpt(). There is a member function on the $post object named $post->post_excerpt. This contains the manually created content in the post excerpt meta box, if there is one. If not, this value is empty. You can also use the WordPress get_the_excerpt() function to display the excerpt. This function displays the $post->post_excerpt content by default unless you override it with the get_the_excerpt filter.
The other way to display an excerpt is with the the_excerpt() function. This generates an excerpt on the fly from the content.
Whatever the case, excerpts are limited in length unless you include a filter to change the length. https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/excerpt_length
Good luck with this.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorThe padding probably needs to be reduced. I visited your site to see the CSS, but the pages I clicked on were all devoid of content. You need to provide a link to a page that has content so we can help you.

Google how to create a custom widget. There are many, many articles. http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-a-custom-wordpress-widget/

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorNo other place. You have to use FTP. The editing function is most likely disabled in wp-config.php. I disable it on all of my client's sites. It's never a good thing to edit php files in that editor anyway. If you make one tiny mistake, your site won't come back up. You'll experience PHP's white screen of death and you'll have to fix things through FTP anyway.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorThe box shadow was added to your page through the WordPress Customizer / Custom CSS area. Custom CSS overrides the style sheet. You can remove the box shadow from the custom CSS.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?March 2, 2018 at 8:44 am in reply to: Change MENU text on mobile menu without modifying theme #217220Victor FontModeratorWhat theme? It could make a difference, but in general, there is no hook. You have to edit code. The word menu is added in most themes in functions.php where the menu script is localized through the wp_localize_script function. The word is a parameter passed to the script.
