Wonderful, Siteground cache resolved so seeing edits finally! Thanks for your and Brad's continual help!
wizz6113MemberThanksj Jodzee, off to do that now as truly frustrating!
wizz6113MemberUpdate, I've found the widget child nos as you pointed out - nos 4,7,3,6, so should manage styling now. The only issue is that I can't get rid of caching problem.
As a test, I put in Brad's original code, which worked, as an example, but even if deleted back end, I still see no changes front end. Not sure if you can take a look but there shouldn't be a green background on widget 4! I am not sure how to enable styling if I can't see changes live!
Any ideas? I've already tried deleting cache.
wizz6113MemberThanks Jodzee and Brad; am off to see if I can style individually and hope the blessed caching issue goes as not seeing any changes even when I delete the code now!
Weird. Will close this thread as resolved hopefully soon! Cheers for now.
wizz6113MemberHi Brad,
I've got your original code to work, but now need to enable it to work across all four widget blocks. Your code has -4 but seems to activate the first widget in the row. So not sure how to replicate it (or my own styling css) to get each of the four widgets in that row to have bespoke styling,
Also, to test, I just deleted your code but I think my host (Siteground) has a supercacher which means that I don't see the changes! I still get the green block on widget one even when I've deleted the code in the stylesheet. Caching issue you think? It makes life very difficult to develop if I can't see edits immediately.
Thanks truly for all your effort on this one; much appreciated.
wizz6113MemberThanks Jodzee,
Yes, I am seeing the site in Google Chrome inspector and can see the various wraps and divs, and those four widget areas are called:
div.home-bottom.widget-area
and the content part:
div.entry-content.custom-content
But I can't see the #featuredpage-extras part at all. Not sure how I style a plug-in delivered widget content. Is this the issue / conflict between different part of the CSS?
Sorry to ask but while I managed some styling once on this, it's eluding me now completely!
Tnx.
wizz6113MemberBrad,
I found this earlier in the code, so perhaps this is where I should be focusing? Or does placing in the Genesis Featured Page Extras plugin mean this section of code is totally useless to concentrate on and style? Thanks for all your kind help:
.home-bottom {
background-color: #fff;
padding-top: 30px;
padding-top: 3.5rem;
}.home-bottom .widget {
float: left;
margin-left: 2.564102564102564%;
width: 23.076923076923077%;
}.home-bottom .widget:nth-child(4n+1) {
clear: both;
margin-left: 0;
}.home-bottom .featured-content img {
-webkit-box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4);
-moz-box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4);
box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4);
}.home-bottom .widget {
color: #333;
font-weight: 700;
font-size: 12px;
}wizz6113MemberBrad,
I've removed the current CSS styling so to clear things out. I've looked at the php in frontpage.php and can find only this that might be the code relating to that part:
function outreach_home_bottom_widgets() {
genesis_widget_area( 'home-bottom', array(
'before' => '<div class="home-bottom widget-area"><div class="wrap">',
'after' => '</div></div>',
) );}
I have the Genesis Featured Page Extras plugin deployed for four slots in that home-bottom widget area. So my thinking is the CSS code should be something like:
.home-bottom .widget-area .widget-title a {
font-color: #CC0000;
]or something along those lines, if I wanted, for eg, to change the link color.
Am I on the right track?
wizz6113MemberDavinder,
I have now gone over the CSS again and put #fff instead of #ffffff and that seemed to do the trick! Have no idea why the 3-digit hex as opposed to the 6-digit hex for white was the issue!
thanks for taking the time to go over the code and your constant updates.
cheers,
Wizzwizz6113MemberDavinder,
I know it's weird that I've changed code and it's still showing. I could go back and replace the earlier code to the original and just keep the 'blue' theme bit of code you point out as the changed one. I use Siteground hosting and they have a super cacher so I wonder if that's the issue; mind you, it's been some hours now and I still see the black default widget background!
Any other suggestions anyone?
wizz6113MemberThanks Davinder,
I did those, but I think it must be being overridden by some code elsewhere as it still hasn't changed, unless it's a server slow update thing.
This is what I still see: http://wpreneur.com/iicss/centres/centre-for-global-disability-research/
The black box of the widget background in the sidebar.
Any other thoughts?
Tnx so much!
wizz6113MemberThanks Davinder, really helpful. Weird how the out-of-the-box Genesis slider doesn't come with this option as it must be one lots of people need!
I'll start working out the new slider but looks promising.
wizz6113MemberHI Brad, very simple solution to my issue - as it's not now custom sidebar per page / post but remove altogether; I just chose a different page template for each page to suit!
Feel really silly not thinking of that earlier. But your info v useful for a future job I need to do on another site. Thanks so much.
wizz6113MemberThanks Brad, it's the black default widget background in the right sidebar, but not to worry. It now seems I simply need to remove the primary sidebar widget altogether, on all pages, not single ones, so perhaps that makes life easier?
I'll go see your link above to see if that helps.
Cheers,
wizz6113MemberBrad, thanks for this.
The 'black box' is basically the widget box (in my theme coloured black as background) which shows either the default primary sidebar prompt or a content-empty box when I tried my (failed) workaround of creating an empty text box for a new widget using simple sidebars plugin. As per this eg: http://wpreneur.com/iicss/about-iicss/fellows/
If I opt to remove the hook for the sidebar how and where can I do it for single pages / posts? I have the Simple Hooks plug in installed.
In CSS, I have no idea where to attempt to hide some page (or post) IDs to get it removed on single pages / posts only. Any quick links or idea to help?
Tnx for all!
wizz6113MemberYes, Brad, that's what I mean - simply to not have that default black box and text showing up. If I put a blank text widget in a bespoke widget created using Simple Sidebar plugin, I still get a empty black box. I just need white space there!
Tnx!
wizz6113MemberI merely used Genesis Simple Hooks plug in and checkboxed 'unhook' and then added my own text and code in the box. That seemed really simple.
wizz6113MemberThanks Genwrock for the advice. Next time heh! Wish I'd done this on this instance, as I had no idea my plug in, genesis hooks and widget content would be wiped out! I am manually rebuilding it all. Takes time. Live and let learn! Thanks for the advice.
wizz6113MemberOK, so I am having to manually recreate ALL the Widgets! Which is a real pain.
But I am really not sure what to do about plugins (I lost genesis simple hooks for eg and everything else of course), and the menus. Anyone an idea how I can reactivate those? And where do I do that? Via ftp and in the database?
I have read about a bit on the web and it seems other people have lost these while migrating Genesis. I don't think I am alone in this?
Tnx
wizz6113MemberI've gone into the database and seen that the plugins and css etc have some numeric values before them. Would this be normal? The url is correctly as strategyworks.net but before it I've the numeric part, home, my database name - strate63 - and then public_html. Is any part of this string wrong? This is the Askimet example.
'recently_edited', 'a:5:{i:0;s:85:"/home/strate63/public_html/strategyworks.net/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php";
Any one help!!!! re plugins, do I just deactivate and delete and then reinstall? Perhaps that might work. What worries me is the CSS not working.
Tnx!
