Narrowing this down - Sridhar's tutorial uses the Portfolio Post Type plugin - does this help?
Tim SquiresMemberWow, totally confused with this - do I need to put a shortcode into a page? If so, which shortcode? Help 🙁
Tim SquiresMemberTim SquiresMemberTim SquiresMemberThanks again, Christoph - that certainly looks worthwhile.
Another possibility that I am exploring is using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin, and maybe trying to add a specific content area to where I need it that I could customize appropriately. Do you think that's a good idea? I don't know much about it, but the articles and videos that I have watched have me interested in its potential.
Tim SquiresMemberTim SquiresMemberThanks Christoph, my apologies for taking you off track in the beginning. That code works really well - I can't believe how many hours I've put into researching a solution to this problem, thanks so much.
Just one thing: is there a way to have only the text "Bhutan Cultural Tours" (the subcategory) showing? ie; hide the rest of the meta?
I tried the tutorial at basicwp and it worked, but only for the words "filed under" on the post - it still remained on the category page.
Many thanks again 🙂
Tim SquiresMember. . . a link to the development site, I have managed to get the meta out of the footer to below the header, but need to get the subcategory meta right to the top as a label:

Tim SquiresMemberHi Christoph, thanks so much for your very detailed answer. That is all very valuable information, but I fear that I may not be explaining my problem correctly.
What I need to style is the sub category meta that appears after the post snippet on my category page.
I have noticed that other themes have certain types of meta displayed as styled labels. For example, the Education Pro theme has the date meta displayed and styled in the top right corner of the post snippet.

I need my subcategories to display like that on the post snippets of my category pages.
This link shows a mock-up of what I would like to achieve:
http://www.timsquires.com.au/images/bhutanlabel.jpg
At the moment the subcategory appears in the post meta at the bottom of the snippet (circled in red)
I need to display this meta at the top (see arrow) in a bold, clear label so that users can easily see the different styles of trips available, ie: cultural tours, trekking tours and adventure tours.
I hope that makes sense, it's very difficult to explain clearly 🙁
Thanks again for your help.
Tim SquiresMemberHi Christoph,
Will that allow me to achieve the same effect as on the 411 Pro theme? On that theme the "comments" tags have their own unique style and appear in the top right corner of the posts as an orange block.
http://my.studiopress.com/themes/the-411/#demo-full
I need to do a similar thing, but have the name of my respective sub categories displaying in that area.
Will custom templates allow me to do this, and if so, can you recommend any good tutorials?
Many thanks 🙂
Tim SquiresMemberFinally, here is a link to the mockup image. I need to pull the sub category out from its default position and move it to the top with new CSS to style it appropriately.

Thanks
Tim SquiresMember... this may help: on my personal site I am using Education Pro. This theme pulls the date out of the meta and displays it as a styled tag high in the right side of the post area. This is what I would like to to with my sub category titles, but not sure if it's possible.
You can see the styled date tags here:

Tim SquiresMemberHi all,
Thanks very much for your advice. I feel much more relaxed about using GSS now, and the Genesis Widget Generator looks fantastic as well - great tips, thank you 🙂
Tim SquiresMemberPS: I managed this with Bill Erickson's tutorial
http://www.billerickson.net/genesis-portfolio/It's kind of what I need, but I can't get the columns to go full width, and not sure if I can have more than one portfolio page.
Result here:
http://adventure.timsquires.com.au/portfolio/
Tim SquiresMemberThat really does look cool - but I don't know how to create a custom page and implement that code within it. More homework and research, but thanks, that's great advice 🙂
Tim SquiresMemberHi again Susan,
I've tried another strategy using Bill Erickson's portfolio tutorial here:
http://www.billerickson.net/genesis-portfolio/
This is the closest that I can get so far:
http://adventure.timsquires.com.au/portfolio/
Although I am closer, there are two things wrong. I can't get the columns to go full width and be even, and I'm not sure if I can have more than one portfolio (I will need around 5).
Anyway, I'll keep trying, thanks for your help.
Tim
Tim SquiresMemberTim SquiresMemberHi Susan,
Thanks so much, but I'm stuck with choosing the pages. If I make a custom page, I don't see it in the options available to choose from.Your example on Modern Blogger Pro looks fantastic - I'd love to be able to achieve that effect on my custom pages, it's just what I want.
Thanks again,
Tim
Tim SquiresMemberHang on - sorry Eric, I was pasting the code in the wrong place! It works beautifully, thanks! I've implemented it on my local development site, so that's a big hurdle solved. Many thanks again,Tim
Tim SquiresMemberHi Erik,
Thanks very much for your suggestion. I've tried it, but no luck sadly. I'll keep experimenting. Certainly your suggestion of targeting the specific widget seems correct.
Thanks again!
Tim
