What I see when I view your site on my iPhone and my iPad is that the site *is* responsive...except for the large logo graphic. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do about that, but I'm reasonably sure I've seen lots of posts on this forum describing what to do when the logo graphic (in the header) doesn't work as "responsive."
if you don't get a good response soon, you might want to run a search in the forum using some terms that would apply to that.

MoodyRivieraMemberThis is just a shot in the dark, but...do you see near the top of your screenshot...the "Screen Options" tab. Activate the tab so you can see the screen options, and it's possible than some of the features that are missing are missing because they are unchecked. It's possible this is all that's wrong.

MoodyRivieraMemberA quick look at your web site shows me one big problem related to speed...and that is the size of your graphics.
For example, the graphic of the backpacker weighs in at 778kb, which is *way* too big. If I had the original graphic you were working with, there's no doubt that I could optimize that graphic to a file weight only 10 percent of that and come out with a graphic that looks at least as good as the hugely bloated file you have on your page there.
Considering that the other graphics I checked...they all weighed in at huge file sizes, that all adds up to many extra megabytes...and that all adds up to very slow download times.
Do some googling for terms such as "optimizing graphics for the web" and you will find an endless amount of advice on how to optimize your graphics.
Optimizing your graphics isn't just a good thing to do...it's an essential thing to do.

MoodyRivieraMemberOh...sorry...I didn't realize that you would want the new site to look similar to the old site...I assumed you might want a theme that was more geared toward displaying photos...lots of photos...and something with a bit more of an up-to-date look.
Now that I know that, I suggest you just look through the available themes for sale on the StudioPress web site, and then be sure to choose the "newer" theme that specify responsive and HTML5...which will assure that your new site will be mobile-responsive...which seems to be the most-important thing everyone wants and needs now.
And don't forget to look at the themes in the "Showcase" area, also.

MoodyRivieraMemberHi @zionchild
Here are a few StudioPress theme I think might work for what you have in mind. They all seem designed with displaying photos in mind:

MoodyRivieraMemberWe all have our own opinions. I don't consider that Brad is doing anything wrong. There's another very helpful guy on here who also provides links to his site and requires a paid subscription for most of his solutions...I don't have a problem with him, either.
Why?
Because we don't always get the answers we need on this forum. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. And when that happens, we can become frustrated and lost.
So then what's wrong with a guy coming on here and pointing us to a solution that might involve a cost? I think it's better to offer that than to have questions go unanswered.
I don't mind paying for useful and helpful advice...and I may not want to wait around and hope that I can get a good answer 'free of charge." I appreciate the free advice...and I provide a lot of free advice myself.
But I'm running a business, and when I'm having trouble with WordPress, I don't have a problem paying a reasonable price for advice that helps me out of a problem.
No one is forced to pay for Brad's services, and the bottom line is: As someone once said, "If you like the free advice you're getting, you can keep the free advice you're getting."

I'd be very interested to see what solution you finally come up with...please keep us informed...and best of luck in your quest. 🙂*MoodyRiviera*
MoodyRivieraMemberHi @sahdow
Interesting comment there about Brad. Just to let you know that there are people who would disagree with what you said...and I am one of those people
Brad is a huge and valuable contributor to this forum. It's hard to think of anyone who does more for people looking for help here than Brad Dalton...so I'm surprised anyone would be upset by his "one-line link to his web site."
Many developers and designers who come here to answer questions, show a link to their own sites where they might hope to attract business for their services...and I'd say that Brad has just as much right as any of those other people.
It's not as if he's "pitching" anything or doing anything that "isn't cool." it's just a one-line" signature.

MoodyRivieraMemberYou're funny, man. I'm no more of a would-be "overlord" than you are a "plucky sort."
I would say that it's obvious you just realized what kind of problems you might be creating for yourself, thus the need to resort to name-calling.
The bottom line is: Flaunt the regulations at your own risk.

MoodyRivieraMemberHello again,
As I said, I don't know if that's the problem or not...it was just a guess.
You asked how you might use a text widget to create a featured post. The way I would do it is to write the text for the blurb as I want it to appear on the Home page...write it in a Text widget...and then be sure to include a "Read More" phrase that I would apply a link to...and the link would lead to the actual post.
If you're not good at writing the text blurb in HTML, you can also set up a temporary post or page...and then in the Visual tab of the edit window, write up your blurb...format the text any way you want, add a link to the "Read More" text...then go into the Text tab, copy your HTML, and paste that into the Text widget.
One problem I can see with this, is that, depending on which page area you're in, you might only be able to use one Text widget in that particular area...unless you know how to add some appropriate code.
If you look more closely at the Altitude Pro setup instructions you might be able to get a better "look" at what I'm trying to say, and also will see that the instructions show at least one examples where they get some Text widgets to spread out across the page...such as in the instructions for the Page 3 widget area where they use three text widgets to create a blurb and then below that blurb there are two blurbs spaced horizontally below that.
I wish I could be more help, but I'm just sort of feeling my way through this stuff myself.

MoodyRivieraMemberWhether you think it's all a "lot of bureaucratic horse****" won't matter if/when some litigious person gets one of your e-mails and turns you in.
Same as if I think the maximum speed limit on a highway is a load of ****, if I get caught exceeding the speed limit, I'll be in trouble...without regard to my personal philosophy on the matter.
You won't find any legitimate mailing service/system that will do your mass mailings outside the parameters of the CAN-SPAM act, and if you do it yourself, you are putting yourself at risk...and you will find yourself added to the list of people no one likes...spammers.....and it won't matter how much of a "plucky sort" you think you are.
Another thing you may not have thought of yet...your ISP and/or your web host will also be unhappy if they detect that you are working outside of the regulations, and are likely to totally shut you down.
Of course this all your choice...and your risk. Do you think it's really going to be worth it?

MoodyRivieraMemberI'll second the MailChimp recommendation by @Christoph. MailChimp is the way to go. Pretty much free...lots of flexibility...works great.

MoodyRivieraMemberHello,
WIth a bare minimum of CSS knowledge, I've been able to figure out things like this by using the "Inspect Element" feature of the Chrome web browser.
With "Inspect Element" you can get an "x-ray view" of your page, and usually figure out where the margin and padding settings are...and then you can make the changes to your CSS file. Here are a few tutorials that might help:

MoodyRivieraMemberHi @nhed
I'm sorry that we still haven't really helped you...it looks like your problem is still happening.
I don't have a lot of technical knowledge in WordPress, and I often refer to myself as "The Man Who Knew Too Little" (that's an old Bill Murray movie). But I like to try to help...and since you're not getting any other responses, I'll just throw this out there as a guess:
I read through the Altitude Pro setup instructions, and they seem to be very specific about what kinds of widgets should go into the various page areas...and mostly what I see the instructions recommending is the "Text widgets," and don't see any mention of the "Featured Posts widget"...which is what you're using.
Do you think that could be the problem? Maybe this theme isn't designed to use the Featured Posts widget to display a post excerpt that entices someone to click to read more of the post. Maybe if you want that kind of thing, you'll have to set up your "excerpts" in Text widgets (along with manually created "Read More" links).

MoodyRivieraMemberHave you followed the furnished setup instructions for the Altitude Pro theme?

In regard to viewing your site with a mobile device...did you know that there are ways to simulate the experience? You might want to try some of these mobile emulators:
There are sites similar to this one:
http://mobiletest.me/Also, if you use the Chrome browser, you might want to try some of the developers tools as shown here:
http://www.goinflow.com/using-chrome-as-a-mobile-emulator/I don't 100 percent trust any emulation, but using something like this might give you a good idea of what your site looks like on various mobile devices.

July 22, 2015 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Hired a developer and now confused how it's suppose to look #160164MoodyRivieraMemberDidn't you look at the Lifestyle Pro theme before you decided to go with it for your redesign?
The developer you hired has got your web site looking very close to what the Lifestyle Pro theme looks like right out of the box. Looks to me like he did a nice job.
You say you're confused about why there's no "today's date"...and wondered whether the theme comes with "date" right out of the box.
It would have only taken a minute or so for you to look at the Lifestyle Pro demo to see what it looks like, and then you would see that it does *not* come with the "date" right out of the box. Same with the "gridlines"...it's easy to look at the demo and what kind of gridlines there are.
http://my.studiopress.com/themes/lifestyle/#demo-full
I don't see what your problem is...maybe not enough planning on your part, and it also sounds like you don't really communicate with your developer. Maybe you've put too much faith in what you read in "The 4 Hour Work Week."

MoodyRivieraMemberFunny story, @ScottFromPA – thanks...we all make mistakes...I won't even admit half of mine. 🙂
