MemberHi,
I use Altitude Pro theme and have added the more tag to a post using Thrive Content Builder. The support guys over at Thrive have looked at the code and confirmed that everything looks good and have confirmed that the link does not work. They suggested I get in touch with you to see what the problem is. You can see the Featured post on the FrontPage. It's the first featured post at http://www.join-ed.com ( This is staging site and not my real site.)
Is this forum where I should mention this?
Thanks for the help.

MemberHi Mike, The Genesis Featured Post widget is in FrontPage2 area.
Hi Moody, Yes, I've set up the FrontPage according to the setup instructions. Of course, I could have done something wrong. That's always a possibility. 🙂
Thanks for the help guys. I do very much appreciate it.

MemberHi @nhed
I'm sorry that we still haven't really helped you...it looks like your problem is still happening.
I don't have a lot of technical knowledge in WordPress, and I often refer to myself as "The Man Who Knew Too Little" (that's an old Bill Murray movie). But I like to try to help...and since you're not getting any other responses, I'll just throw this out there as a guess:
I read through the Altitude Pro setup instructions, and they seem to be very specific about what kinds of widgets should go into the various page areas...and mostly what I see the instructions recommending is the "Text widgets," and don't see any mention of the "Featured Posts widget"...which is what you're using.
Do you think that could be the problem? Maybe this theme isn't designed to use the Featured Posts widget to display a post excerpt that entices someone to click to read more of the post. Maybe if you want that kind of thing, you'll have to set up your "excerpts" in Text widgets (along with manually created "Read More" links).

MemberHi Moody,
Thanks for dropping by my little problem. I appreciate it.
OK. You're definitely right about the tutorial not saying to use the Featured Post widget. So that could be the problem. But how in the world would I use a text widget to create a featured post? I mean, I'm new at all this.
Also, a moderator in this thread, suggested that I use the featured Post widget, so I figured it was OK to do.
Any other insights or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't even know how to ask the right question sometimes. 🙂
All the best,
EdJuly 24, 2015 at 1:21 pm #160333MoodyRiviera
MemberHello again,
As I said, I don't know if that's the problem or not...it was just a guess.
You asked how you might use a text widget to create a featured post. The way I would do it is to write the text for the blurb as I want it to appear on the Home page...write it in a Text widget...and then be sure to include a "Read More" phrase that I would apply a link to...and the link would lead to the actual post.
If you're not good at writing the text blurb in HTML, you can also set up a temporary post or page...and then in the Visual tab of the edit window, write up your blurb...format the text any way you want, add a link to the "Read More" text...then go into the Text tab, copy your HTML, and paste that into the Text widget.
One problem I can see with this, is that, depending on which page area you're in, you might only be able to use one Text widget in that particular area...unless you know how to add some appropriate code.
If you look more closely at the Altitude Pro setup instructions you might be able to get a better "look" at what I'm trying to say, and also will see that the instructions show at least one examples where they get some Text widgets to spread out across the page...such as in the instructions for the Page 3 widget area where they use three text widgets to create a blurb and then below that blurb there are two blurbs spaced horizontally below that.
I wish I could be more help, but I'm just sort of feeling my way through this stuff myself.

MemberThank you Moody,
I know how to do the text widgets so that they are arranged across the page in a grid. The theme is great for that. With what you are suggesting would be that I choose three posts to feature and then they are fixed and the FrontPage will always show those three posts.
What I need is to be able to show the three most recent posts. So it's dynamic not static. That's the power of WP. 🙂 That's why I switched to WP.
I'll keep trying to see what I come up with. And thank you for the idea of building what I want in the visual editor and then getting the HTML. I'd forgotten about that. I use a plugin that is really great and very easy to use called Thrive, but it doesn't work on the Frontpage of Altitude Pro. So I'm having to struggle with the HTML. Good tip. I do very much appreciate it.

MemberThank you Badly. I appreciate the help. What I have decided to do, because I just don't have time to study all the coding is to just the set the content type to "show content limit". This shows a link "Continue Reading". So that pretty much solves that problem, although eventually I'd to do something more elegant.
Thank you for the links to the CODEX. I've read through them, but probably won't mess with them now. Later on I might hire someone to set up a few things. But it certainly helps to know what it is that I'm asking someone to do. So the reading and having an understanding is good. Thank you.

ModeratorThe issue you are experiencing may be due to the fact the WordPress strips HTML from excerpts and content limits. Brad Dalton wrote a good article on how to fix the issue: http://wpsites.net/wordpress-tips/add-back-html-tags-stripped-from-content-limit-excerpts-in-wordpress/

MemberNew England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won't allow the NFL's upholding of his four-game suspension to prevent him from pursuing alternative appeal options—and he isn't hiding anything from his initial appeal hearing.
Brady and the NFL Players Association filed a counterclaim in a New York City court Tuesday that includes testimony from Brady's original rejected appeal, according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo.
The documents from Brady's appeal weren't filed under seal, meaning they're viewable by the public to provide more insight and clarity into Brady's side of the Deflategate story. The full 172-page PDF is available through ProFootballTalk.com and contains some 10 hours of testimony.August 7, 2015 at 1:43 pm #161742nhed
MemberOK. Thank you Victor. Once again you have saved the day and I owe you one... A coconut water on the beach next time you are in the neighborhood!
And for others, I'm going to share what my FrontPage2 looks like now and the settings and css and html that I'm using in order to get it. OK. So here goes.
First the Genesis Featured Post settings are found here:
The actual settings that I used are here:
The page looks like this:
So as you can see, the Genesis Featured Post Widget is displaying the three latest posts. Each post is using the featured image. Then it is showing the Title of the post as a link. It also show the page excerpt and includes a hyperlink with "Read more...".
Here's the code I included in the excerpt:
If anyone is interested in the css and html I used, just let me know and I'll post it too.
Thank you everyone who has helped me find my way. I appreciate it.
All the best,
EdAugust 24, 2015 at 7:15 am #163293nhed
MemberHow can I add a line break before the "Read more..." link so that this link is always on it's own line? Any suggestions?
