Wow, it takes 3 pages to explain how to do this with Yoast (which I don't have). I guess this isn't something people normally do. I'll look for another solution. Thanks.

beggersParticipantAre you saying that there will be no new JQuery issues with the upcoming new release of WordPress, even with older plugins and themes?
Bryan
beggersParticipantI gotta be honest, so far I haven't found a single useful block. But I mostly post straight text so I haven't needed anything specific other that this one.
beggersParticipantIn the first sentence I meant to say "they aren't in a table".

beggersParticipantYes, I have reported the problem to Studiopress and the Gutenberg team.
Thanks.beggersParticipantAnita,
I am testing and reporting the bugs. It's just that many plugins are being updated throughout the month and it took a while to pinpoint this problem to Gutenberg.
To answer your question, the widget page vanished from all links to it - the Customizer and Appearance/Widgets.
We need to have more people testing because a bug like that would be a disaster if the development team missed it and it got into production.
Bryan
beggersParticipantI did some experimenting tonight and I was able to get my Widgets pages working again (on both my sites) by disabling the Gutenberg test plugin. Everything back to normal.
The current production version of Gutenberg is still enabled so it's definitely an issue with the text version.
Let me just ask this question. What's the easiest way to default to the Classic Editor?
beggersParticipantI noticed something else on my other site, MovieDebuts.com. That widgets page is only about half working. Widgets are no longer listed. I used to be able to drag and drop them into the sidebar. All that functionality is gone.
beggersParticipantAnd they are gone again. Has anyone heard of this problem or have an idea of how I can fix it?
beggersParticipantJust as an update, my Widgets page reappeared for a couple of days and then suddenly vanished again. I tried disabling some plugins that I wasn't using and the page came back. I haven't had time to try to point the blame at a specific plugin, though. It still could be something else.
beggersParticipantAnd just like magic, "POOF" and its fine again. I came back a few hours later and everything seems to be fine. I'm going to try adding a new widget to see what happens.

Bryan
beggersParticipantVince, don't do it! When I found out the new Magazine Pro was converted to all blocks I almost sat down and cried.
One of the things that made WordPress so successful and powerful over the years was the availability of hundreds of thousands of cool widgets such as Content Views which allow you to make all kinds of interesting home page designs.
Now, instead of being able to choose from all these amazing widgets you're stuck using a relatively small number of Blocks that don't come close to doing all the cool stuff. And it's hard to figure out the purpose of the individual blocks.
I've always considered Magazine Pro to be Studiopress' flagship product. It's a masterpiece of design. But then the company dropped Gutenberg on us and frankly it has been widely criticized. My guess is that Studiopress was so determined to get Gutenberg (and blocks) widely accepted that they converted their great Magazine Pro theme to all blocks. A huge marketing mistake.
I have forced myself to get used to Gutenberg, hoping that they will eventually fix all its bugs and quirks. But I am never giving up on widgets.
My advice to you is to ask Studiopress to send you version 3.3.0 of Magazine Pro which is the version released right before the block conversion. You can build just about anything you want with this version and widgets.
Good luck.
beggersParticipantYes, I understand that. That's why I switched to News Pro so I could have widget areas again. The thing is, News Pro is virtually identical to Magazine Pro 3.3.0 except is still uses widgets - In fact, I think News Pro is just the old Magazine Pro renamed.
It's sad to see how Studiopress changed their famous Magazine Pro to all blocks. Gutenberg is consistently panned by critics and this change seemed to be solely to force people to use blocks. I can tolerate Gutenberg but having to build with only blocks is not for me.
beggersParticipantOkay, so just to cut to the chase on this issue, StudioPress lists a "News Pro 3.3.0" theme which appears to be the old Magazine Pro 3.3.0 before they omitted all the widget areas on the home page.
So if you're having this problem just install News Pro 3.3.0. You'll have to redefine a lot of stuff but at least you'll have all the working widget area back again.
beggersParticipantI thought I was using an older version 3.3.0 which works fine on my first site. Same theme 3.3.0 on the second site but the widget areas are missing.
I'm totally confused, can blocks contain widgets?
June 22, 2020 at 12:08 am in reply to: I'm curious to know your thoughts about "nofollow" links #499437beggersParticipantThanks, I will do that but I'd like to hear from our local experts as to how they deal with nofollow links.
beggersParticipantI'm also very interested in this subject. I tried to work with Mailchimp and managed to create a simple subscription link summary but the support people wouldn't even help me add a simple thumbnail so I gave up on them.
Some other companies offer similar services but one wants $100/mth when we get busy. Since I have my own server I don't really want to pay an outside company to host the list and do the mailings.
I hope you'll continue posting about your experiences. I'll take a look at SendinBlue and see what they have to offer.
