beggersParticipant
Thanks, Anita! That is excellent advice!
beggersParticipantI would also like to know if there is a way to do this. In the meantime, I just try to backup my mySQL database and all the site files every day. That way I can revert to a backup if I screw up some settings. I made a couple of batch files to do this and I'll also run them just before I do any major changes.
beggersParticipantI have mine turned off but I believe the comment settings are in Settings/Discussion Settings.
Genesis also has comments settings in Customizing / Theme Settings / Comments and Trackbacks.
beggersParticipantYes, now that I've switched mobile browsers I can see it working. However, I'm still faced with two major issues that are beyond the support this forum but I want to mention them in case anyone else thinks about implementing this code:
1. If the default settings of the popular Chrome mobile browser are blocking this Amazon Popover code, then the code probably isn't worth installing. Why start out knowing that most people won't even see it?
2. Although using a different browser like Firefox or Safari allows popovers to work, I tested about 30 articles containing Amazon links and only 3 of them displayed a popover. I think this means that the settings of the Amazon link have to meet a certain criteria or it won't create a popover. I'm going to study the few links that work and see if I can figure out a pattern.
beggersParticipantI never see any popover on my site regardless of how fast or slow I scroll or if a site has 1 amazon link or 6. Nothing like you describe. This makes me think that my phone might be blocking it. Maybe it's a Chrome issue?
Update! I tried it on Firefox and it works! So something about Chrome is blocking the popover. Thanks so much for your help!

beggersParticipantYes, this link has Amazon links and never produces a popover:

beggersParticipantAnita,
You know what I was wondering? When I access my site with a smartphone, is the site really giving me a mobile feed or is the phone just reformatting the data to fit the phone? I don't see anything on the Genesis or the theme that specifically says "mobile feed". I wonder if the really the Amazon code isn't working is because I'm not supplying a real mobile feed?
Bryan
beggersParticipantI just tried moving the code into the Genesis Header script box and it still doesn't work.
This link has several Amazon links:
If you don't get a popover when you view that link then there must be something else wrong. Thanks for checking.
beggersParticipantI also use Magazine Pro and have found that the Content Views plugin can create all kinds of layouts like you describe. I designed most of my home page with it. ]
It also lets you integrate ads into your layouts.
MovieDebuts.com
beggersParticipantOne solution is to use the plugin WP-Touch. This lets you create a custom mobile feed.
beggersParticipantI'm in the same boat. I would be going from 3.3 to 3.6. I sent a support request to StudioPress asking about this new version. The readme file says it supports widgets but I'll wait until I hear from them before I try upgrading.
beggersParticipantYes, you might need to enlarge an image for the template design itself or you might want to make all your content photos the same size. Over about a ten year period I posted over 50,000 images to one of my sites - and I made every image 588 pixels wide for consistency. That involved a lot of enlarging because most publicists send photos that are too small.
April 6, 2020 at 10:00 pm in reply to: Magazine Pro (and others) – How do you add more advertising modules #497785beggersParticipantI'm also using Magazine Pro. I've experimented with some ad plugins. You might want to look at these and see if they'll do what you want:
Content Views - This lets you create custom layout sections on your home page. These can include ads spots. This is a truly powerful plugin. See my home page for examples: https://MovieDebuts.com - If you scroll down my page to a section called Gaming News you'll see that I insert a 300x250 banner inside that particular group.
AdRotate - This plugin lets you easily create groups of ads that can be rotated dynamically. Generally speaking, this plugin doesn't specify the placement so you might have to use one of the above plugins for that, but the main reason I use it is because it lets you insert and rotate ads inside an article, such as after the 3rd paragraph, 5th paragraph, etc. without requiring another plugin for placement.
Advanced Ads (not test by me)
Advanced Ads - Genesis (not tested by me)
If you have any success with these, please let us know. There are so many plugins and not much time to experiment.

Bryan
beggersParticipantThanks for the quick response, Anita. That code worked great. I appreciate it!
Bryan
beggersParticipantI'm going to call this resolved for now because I found this widget:
Featured Post Exclude Category for Genesis
It lets me exclude one category, which helps a lot. As I add additional categories I'll have to find a better solution.
By the way, Genesis has a Facebook page but you're not allowed to post support questions? That's weird.
Thanks.
beggersParticipantOkay, thanks to everyone for the info! I did upgrade Genesis and so far 4.7 is working okay on one simple site that I have. I need to go through Admin and see if everything is really working.
My next step is to upgrade two Studiopress sites (non-Genesis) that have old, original themes (Magazine and Church). I've never had any issues with previous upgrades so I've got my fingers crossed.
beggersParticipantI haven't been to this site in years but I'm having the same problem as you described. Could you or someone please explain how to upgrade Genesis? Thanks!
beggersParticipantOkay, I figured out that this is an option on the menu at: http://yourblog.com/wp-admin/options.php
Just change image_default_link_type from file to (empty field)
So far this seems to be working for me.
beggersParticipantooberdave, I just visited your site and it's almost exactly what I've been thinking about doing. I am very impressed! I'm hoping to add Buddypress to one of my sites and studying what you've done will help a lot. Thanks for sharing the link! Great job.
