March 18, 2015 at 1:31 pm in reply to: Center Excerpt in Genesis Responsive Slider, Education Pro theme #144865Victor FontModerator
Part of the issue is the position: absolute setting in .home-featured .slide-excerpt. If you change it to relative, the excerpt will move to the center, but you will have other issues to deal width.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorThe black color is coming from the body element in the block starting on line 169 of style.css. This is because you don't have a background color defined for the bottom title area.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorBrett, that was only an example to illustrate the hook function. It's not lazy coding at all. Regardless of what a developer names a widget area, it's still a widget area and can be loaded anyplace you'd like the widget area to appear.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorIn addition to the CSS changes, you also have to change the image size in functions.php for the upload. Look for the following code around line 46:
//* Add support for custom header add_theme_support( 'custom-header', array( 'default-image' => get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/images/logo.png', 'width' => 300, 'height' => 300, 'flex-width' => false, 'flex-height' => false, 'header-selector' => '.site-title a', 'header-text' => false, ) );
Change the height and width to the dimensions of your new logo.
As for the 2-column layout, use the Genesis Column classes:
<div class="one-half first"> column 1 content goes here </div> <div class="one-half"> column2 content goes here </div>

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorYou may also have to adjust the corresponding CSS to account for a larger logo. Look at the site-title area and header widget area.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorYou have two caches you need to deal with. You have W3TC and your browser cache. In all likely hood, it's your browser cache that you need to force a refresh. Google "force browser refresh" for instructions on how to do that.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorThe documentation for add_action is in the WordPress codex. It is not a Genesis function. http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_action
Load priority has nothing to do with position. It determines the priority in which functions load. For example, if you want function B to load before function A, you would adjust the load priority.
The first parameter in the add_action call is the hook. It is the hook that determined where a function loads. For example, if you wanted the After Entry widget area to the space before the header, you would use
add_action( ‘genesis_before_header’, ‘genesis_after_entry_widget_area’, 5 );.
Keep in mind, this is still just the widget area. You still need to add widgets to the widget area before you'll get anything to display.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorIn your .site-header css starting on line 1018, you've set the div to a height of 0px. Remove that line and add background:none and you'll have your transparent header. A div with a 0px height can never be transparent because it is not displaying.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorNo. The 5 is the load priority. The "genesis_after_entry" is the location. Where do you want to move the widget area to?

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorThe size of the header area is 1140px wide. That area is divided into two sub-areas, the logo and widget areas. The combined widths of these two areas cannot exceed the overall width of the header. Your logo is 360px wide and the widget area where you have the menu is 820px wide. 360+820 = 1180. To fix this you need to shorten the width of the widget area by at least 40px. You'll find the css in the .site-header .widget-area block on line 1056 of style.css.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorView your page source and you'll see the image that is being used. You are not displaying the primary image on the home page. I explained your problem above. I'm not lying to you.
Resize 20153.gif to 750x387 and rename it as such. Use FTP to overwrite the 20153-750?—387.gif that is there now with the animated gif and it will work on your home page.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?Victor FontModeratorIf you are already using a plugin that outputs columns, why would you use the Genesis classes as well? If you look at style.css for "first," you would see that it clears the floats from previous column classes. If you want consistent results with your display, then yes, you need to use it. You may also want to look at the Genesis Grid loop.
