    In your media query at 1200px it appears that you're adding margin-left trying to make your content lie to the right of the center portion of the background image - i.e. not overlap, which would make the text difficult to read. <-- Please speak up if I'm off the mark on this :). But this leaves not enough room for the sidebar..

    If you shave the added margin of 20px off the content width, the sidebar doesn't need to move (Until @media 800px, when you will run into a text/image conflict anyway from this point and smaller widths.)

    so

    .content-sidebar #content,
    	.sidebar-content #content {
    		width: 610px;
                etc .....

    I think it may be a problem at 1024px because the sidebar begins to be obstructed -- but there is no media query at 1024px. I guess you could design your own.

    You should also look at your menus and header image - the larger header image seems to cause problems for the menus between 1200px and 800px. See some of the resources @Chantal2012 used towards the bottom of this thread: http://www.studiopress.community/topic/logo-and-lifestyle-pro/

    Does this help?

    Good find! I see the same thing: the color selector opens below the text field and the bottom half of the selector box is hidden if the overall section container is too short.

    This is fixed? I don't see a border on the right mis-aligning.

    Can you say specifically at a certain <div>, widget or other page element?

    (Your bump may have done you a disfavor - many assistance queries are for unanswered posts - i.e. only one message.)

    re: .htaccess vs plugin

    That depends on your comfort with editing your .htaccess and a couple other factors.

    Pro-Plugin:
    With .htaccess, any page changes or to add overlooked pages means FTPing and editing and FTPing. I have also seen plugins/updates wreak havoc on .htaccess, although this would be exceptionally rare, I think. The site would probably work, but your redirects might be lost for a time until corrected.

    On the other hand,

    Anti-Plugin:
    The Redirection plugin is currently unavailable (see: the support thread).

    Two other factors that would steer me away from long-term use of the plugin:

    1. It's nice not to have a plugin installed that needs to be maintained when a no maintenance alternative is available.
    2. You(your client) seem(s) not to need URL masking that Redirection easily supports, say for affiliate use or vanity URLS. (This could also be handled later with the Simple URLs plugin, if required.)

    Because you are building this on a remote server, I would start with the plugin and finish with just .htaccess. You can also re-evaluate after step 8.

    1. Get a complete inventory of the pages to redirect from the existing HTML site.
    2. Build the WordPress pages to replicate these.
    3. Setup the redirects using Redirection.
    4. Lather, rinse and repeat until you're sure all redirects are written in the plugin.
    5. Test.
    6. Go live.
    7. Review logs from Redirection for 404s and redirects. (Remember that spreadsheet?)
    8. Adjust as necessary.
    9. Use Redirection to write an .htaccess file for you. ("Export all redirections to CSV, XML, or Apache .htaccess files")
    10. Merge this with your existing .htaccess.
    11. Turn off the plugin and test.
    12. Backup the .htaccess file for just-in-case.

    Once you're fully satisfied that all pages are redirected, the job is done and the plugin may be removed.

    @Susan - Thanks for that about Nick's plugin. I hope that he finds the time to update it for G2.0

    @chantal2012
    - I'll admit I'm not the prime resource you want for designing responsiveness 🙂 (but I get better at it daily) however I did find two things that should help:

    For your break at 1023px add/change:

    .site-header{
    margin: auto // to center the image
    height: 150px; // was 100% and cropping - image size is 150px
    }

    Gotta run, I'll come back for more later and hopefully can help.

    @Donnee
    The Genesis 301 redirection from within a post works to deliver the opposite of what you want.

    If you enter a new URL in the "Custom Redirect URL" section of a page/post, the natural URL of the post will then redirect to the 'custom URL'. Great if that's what you want to do. But you want to redirect the old HTML URL to a new page served from your WordPress site.

    As Bill pointed out, along with the second link I provided, you can achieve this by changing the permalink structure and another plugin. As you've noted, this doesn't affect archive URLs for author or category. In the end, I don't think the result is as good or consistent as using a plugin like 'Redirection' (there are many similar).

    Let us know what you decide and how it works for you.

    Hi Bill,
    That's good to know - thanks for the info.

    I'm not certain that it would deliver a good result for the OP as that tip apparently only works on posts, not pages. The OP's HTML site is page-heavy with no blog. The follow-on tip from author Joe Foley recommends a plugin for adding '.html' onto URL's for pages - that might help. Perhaps this could save effort if they had hundreds or thousands of pages but the site appears to have <50 pages.

    The OP has also shown that the new site will have a blog, so now we're either mixing pretty permalinks and HTML links (blog and pages), or using two tricks to make the whole site appear to be something it is not. This may introduce issues down the road (who knows what Google may do next?) or conflicts with other plugins. Since proper use of redirects should preserve the apparent page rank that the OP (or their client) has established, redirects would deliver a more consistent result.

    After thinking about using the Redirection plugin I did wonder about using the built-in capability of Genesis for doing the same thing. That would marry the redirects to work in Genesis - and I think it works to the opposite effect anyway! Using the plugin makes the work more portable if there is a need or desire to use another framework.

    Great to know there are so many options!

    Welcome to WordPress and Genesis.

    Alas, no. All of your page addresses currently end in "html". Being a PHP-driven platform, WordPress will require new URLs. You will be able to make them similar but they are different addresses nonetheless.

    Eg.
    WordPress: http://www.giordanolaw.com/social-security-disability-pa
    Old HTML: http://www.giordanolaw.com/social-security-disability-pa.html

    Look into the plugin "Redirection". This can make your migration perhaps a little bit easier. (Along with a good plan and spreadsheet of page remapping.) This plugin is very popular (over 1.2 million downloads) but seems to be offline from wordpress.org. at the moment, even though support items are 1-day-fresh.

    A cached version of their page is available from Google here: http://goo.gl/ZmD7XO
    Support Page is here: http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/redirection
    The page at Urban Giraffe is here: http://urbangiraffe.com/plugins/redirection/

    Tom
    Participant

    Hi Camille (or CAmille - are you from CAnada?),

    Sorry about that - I saw your Minimum-themed site but "Modern Portfolio" registered in my head!

    You can make this whole section not display with one CSS statement at the bottom of the file style.css:

    .minimum #inner {
    display: none;
    }

    An additional step to do this properly is to remove the actual loop process that is running to create the blog section:

    To remove the blog section from the front page of the Minimum theme, open up home.php. At the bottom of the file, find the section with the following code and either comment it out or delete it;

    add_action( 'genesis_loop', 'minimum_grid_loop_helper' );
    function minimum_grid_loop_helper() {

    	if ( function_exists( 'genesis_grid_loop' ) ) {
    		genesis_grid_loop( array(
    			'features' 				=> 0,
    			'feature_image_size' 	=> 'featured',
    			'feature_image_class' 	=> 'post-image',
    			'feature_content_limit' => 0,
    			'grid_image_size'		=> 0,
    			'grid_image_class'		=> 'alignnone',
    			'grid_content_limit' 	=> 250,
    			'more'					=> __( '[Read more]', 'minimum' ),
    		) );
    	} else {
    		genesis_standard_loop();
    	}

    }

    Be sure not to touch the last line in the file: genesis();

    Just doing this alone would allow the #inner div to continue to display, leaving a white band with top border under the 'home-feature' circle sections. That CSS change we did makes sure that this does not display.

    Have fun with your video site!

    You appear to have one blog post, #275, by author 'wabable', in 'uncategorized' (http://wabable.com/author/wabable). This seems to have been published at one time as "http://wabable.com/howitworks". It is possible you need to re-save your permalink structure.

    To clean it up, you could just transfer the content of this post to a page. Then just remove whatever is in the Blog Widget area.

    No code required :).

    OK.

    The Genesis Responsive Slider handles a little differently from the old Lexicon setup, but you can achieve much the same thing with some theme and CSS tweaks. I've installed the Focus theme with a slider area on an existing Metro sandbox installation I had here. This lets us use the Metro images for the slider demo.

    We can use the existing images and reposition the excerpt box by adjusting the Slider Settings, slider excerpt width to 21% and position as Top, Right. Also: "Display post content" with a limit of 175 characters. The excerpt height has been set to 100% using:

    .slide-excerpt {
    height: 100%;
    }

    This sets a "‘box’ that does not change or move, even if the text is short or non-existent." See the difference between featured post 1 and the others. You will have to adjust everything to suit your final design and styling. Sorry that the Metro images are not quite on-topic for your site! 🙂

    Hmmm. Exactly what you want, but different. 🙂

    Your example and the Agency theme are presenting page or post title and teaser or snippet using a "slider" plugin and a widget area to house the slider so that it can present images on your front page. The free slider plugin may be downloaded here. Your Focus theme does not have a slider widget area out of the box, but this can easily be added with the code snippet provided earlier.

    However, the Genesis Responsive Slider can only use slide or fade transitions and only content and images from a post or page. Other sliders can make a presentation with many different effects and use content that is built using the slider itself, so it's perhaps a little more work to achieve the desired result. There are many such sliders at WordPress.org - unfortunately I'm not familiar with any that easily create 'pop-up' content or animation effects.

    Of course there are also commercial sliders, typically for $10-$15-$20. Some examples are: "Revolution Slider" , "Layer Slider", "Royal Slider" and "Soliloquy Slider". These are just popular examples, I don't have a favorite and don't have any affiliation with these products.

    If it doesn't match these examples ...
    Can you explain how it is different?
    Can you post links for examples?

    I have to admit being slightly confused by the original question. I take it that you want to emulate the slider on goodguyswearblack.org using a widget area. You could try the Genesis Responsive Slider for this.

    See the Agency theme demo for a sample of how it is similar to your example.

    It is configurable for:

    • post or page text or excerpt; custom post types, too
    • choice of <more> text, full content or content limited by character count
    • filter by category, tag or other taxonomy
    • select page/post to include/exclude by post ID
    • slide count, slide or fade transitions, timers, arrows/not, pagination/not
    • select % width and position for content
    • Multiple <divs> for CSS styling
    • responsive
    • etc.

    The only drawback is only one slider per site - but a very good option for a front/home page.

    As to "where to put the code", you've tagged your post 'focus theme'.
    You can put a widget for your slider on the home page by placing the following snippet carefully into the bottom of your functions.php file. The slider will appear above your posts and primary sidebar areas, but below your secondary navigation menu. The original code for this is from forum regular Brad Dalton.

    genesis_register_sidebar( array(
    	'id'			=> 'home-slider',
    	'name'			=> __( 'Home Slider', 'focus' ),
    	'description'	=> __( 'This is the slider widget area for your homepage.', 'focus' ),
    ) );

    add_action( 'genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap', 'widget_before_content_sidebar_wrap');
    function widget_before_content_sidebar_wrap() {
    if ( is_home() && is_active_sidebar( 'home-slider' ) ) {
    		echo '<div id="home-slider">';
    		dynamic_sidebar( 'home-slider' );
    		echo '</div><!-- end #home-slider -->';
    	}
    }

    Please let us know what you choose, or to clarify your question.

    Hi JennyLon,

    Upgrading to the 2.0.x framework is a good step -- and good news that nothing has broken!

    You don't have to do anything else if you don't want to, and you're doing well to keep WordPress and Genesis at their most recent release level.

    From "Why You Shouldn’t Fear Upgrading to Genesis 2.0 When it’s Released"

    Backward Compatibility
    We’ve always done our best to provide users with the best update experience possible. That includes paying special attention to the finer details of backward compatibility.
    It’s important to us that our users feel safe and secure when updating, that our promise of one-click seamless updates holds true.
    With Genesis 2.0, this shouldn’t be any different — even though we’ve added a ton of features, most notably support for HTML5 markup.
    Even if you’re running a non-HTML5 theme on your site, you should experience no issues when updating to Genesis 2.0.

    I think you can achieve what you want with CSS. This worked for me from the Element Inspector in Chrome:

    This removes top-placed featured images, leaves left aligned images:

    .alignnone img, img.alignnone {
    display: none;
    }

    This removes all featured images:

    .featured-content img, .gallery img {
    display: none;
    }

    On the right track?

    The image you refer to is from the setup page for the Executive theme at http://my.studiopress.com/setup/executive-theme/

    Any similar file for another theme - if it is available - would be linked from the setup page for that theme. For instance, AgentPress has a home page image available as a reference to setting up the theme. This might not be available for all themes.

    There's also great how-to information published by many StudioPress fans and consultants that may include their own reference images.
