Hope I'm not encroaching on this conversation! Alternative tutorial: http://brianlis.com/add-a-unique-sidebar-to-the-genesis-home-page.htm/ This isn't using the genesis simple sidebars plugin. You may find more information by simply googling "genesis sidebars home page only" 🙂

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberHad a look at your site and it seems like you were able to fix the width issue. 🙂 I can see the phone icon a little high right now - this is because it has the class .alignnone applied to it, which is adding a margin-bottom. You may want remove the class, or add CSS to remove the margin-bottom and apply a margin-right, instead.

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberLinden,
Your page is using a grid loop. Did you recently update your theme, or change how your page was structured?

Just use the styles from genesis in your child theme.

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberNick, can you provide your site link? It's not fully clear what is happening from your explanation.

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberYou can use this tutorial as a starting place: http://sridharkatakam.com/display-custom-menu-menu-descriptions-icons-wordpress-widget/
You'll want to use the code to "Make Font Awesome available" and style each menu item with the appropriate icon, eg:
#menu-side-menu .menu-item-home a:before { content: "\f015"; }

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberYou'll need to change the CSS, which currently has this in it, hiding the description:
.site-description { display: block; height: 0; margin-bottom: 0; text-indent: -9999px; }

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberI'm glad to hear it, thanks!

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberDepending on what exactly you're going for, you could use a full-width page, insert your video and opt-in, and assign it as your home page:
http://demo.studiopress.com/lifestyle/layouts/fwc/
https://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_PageTo get an image background on that page only, I'd just add a line of CSS targeting that page ID.
As for changing the colors, you'll need to do a little functions and CSS editing: http://wpsites.net/web-design/change-color-theme-genesis/
Does this help get you going in the right direction? 🙂

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberBill's second answer (to thesaraheffect's question) would do this for you. 🙂
You would run a conditional for if the post is sticky and remove the meta data if true.

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberFrom what I'm reading, I'm not sure this is entirely the easiest way to organize your content. You'll have to get a second opinion on that, or show it to me when you're done, so I can understand. 🙂
To create two additional taxonomies, you'll want to duplicate the very first part of code on Sridhar's page (under "Create Portfolio Type custom taxonomy"). You don't need to duplicate the entire block, just add two more taxonomy registrations, changing the information as needed.
More on registering taxonomies: http://codex.wordpress.org/Taxonomies#Registering_a_taxonomy

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberNope, they cannot be removed altogether: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Category_base_and_Tag_base
You could create two pages and only query posts from each category into them, however. I'd do this using page templates, but I'm sure there's a plugin out there, too.

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberYou link isn't correct, that's all. 🙂 You're using the word "categories". Click on the links I have above and you'll see your post in both places.

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberBoth of your examples are using a widget area to insert their newsletter signups.
If you want to go the page snippet route, could you use CSS to force the file to be full width?

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberTo be able to help we'd really need to see your site to investigate the problem. Can you share the link?

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberAs a note, both categories will show up on your current blog page. Only if you change to two links, http://justingentry.org/category/adults/ and http://justingentry.org/category/teens/, will you successfully keep posts completely separate.
Happy to help!

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberI'm not seeing an email signup box on Brian's blog. From your explanation though, my first idea would be to create a widget area in that space, use eNews extended to create the subscription box, and add some CSS, if necessary, to make sure my area is responsive.
This route would probably not be considered simple, unfortunately!

Lauren

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberHey Ken,
It's hard to tell since you don't have the problem on your page now. It sounds like increasing the width of your widget area or decreasing the size of your phone number may allow enough space for it all to fit.

Lauren

Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberHey Julie,
That's due to the min-height specified in your CSS:
.header-image .site-title a { float: left; min-height: 300px; <-- ** This Here ** width: 100%; }
The only time it is decreased is at:
@media only screen and (max-width: 767px) .header-image .site-title a { background: url("http://www.rjchristiancoaching.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/rjscherba-header-1024-300x78.jpg") no-repeat scroll 0 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) !important; background-size: contain !important; min-height: 100px !important; background-position: center !important; }
You'd want to find all media queries where the width of your content is decreased, then determine what the ideal min-height would be at that point.
Hope this gets you headed in the right direction!
Best,
Lauren
