Nah, just put it before the
genesis();
and make sure it's not inside of a function.brockMemberOne easy way to do it, assuming you want a full-width page, is to open your theme files and find the
front-page.php
file. Add this code to it.//* Force full-width-content layout setting add_filter( 'genesis_pre_get_option_site_layout', '__genesis_return_full_width_content' );
brockMemberYou can put it anywhere as long as it's not inside of a media query. You could put it at the very bottom or wherever it makes logical sense to put it. I'm not sure why it's not working unless you are putting inside of a media query at toward the bottom of your page.
brockMemberLooks like you've resolved this one.
brockMemberWhat exactly are you trying to do? "Change the header image size" is pretty vague. Can you clarify exactly what you are going for?
June 26, 2015 at 8:51 pm in reply to: Whitespace Pro – Adding Widgetized 2nd Column To Footer? #157635brockMemberTry adding this to your functions.php file:
genesis_register_sidebar( array( 'id' => 'extra-footer-widget', 'name' => __( 'Extra Footer Widget', 'whitespace' ), 'description' => __( 'This is a footer widget.', 'whitespace' ), ) ); add_action( 'genesis_footer', 'bc_extra_footer_widget'); function bc_extra_footer_widget() { genesis_widget_area( 'bc-extra-footer-widget', array( 'before' => '<div class="extra-footer-widget widget-area">', 'after' => '</div>' )); }
You will need some CSS styling to it as well, but that should help get you started.
brockMemberIf you update the child theme itself, which you shouldn't ever need to do, it would come back. Genesis alone will update without affecting the child theme when the next update happens. Updating WordPress should not matter either and it's still mysterious why a WordPress update caused that.
brockMemberCan you try opening your
functions.php
file and look for this line of code around line 152:add_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_post_info', 5 );
If you find that, delete it and let me know what happens.
brockMemberAre you talking about splitting your profits with StudioPress or just giving out a free version of their parent theme to go with your child theme? Most theme creators I see create the child themes for the Genesis framework which the customer would need to purchase separately. You could sign up for their affiliate program and place that link on your site showing your customers where to buy the parent theme (framework).
Your question needs a lot of clarification.
brockMemberNo, it's good. 🙂
I love the sample theme. If you have some coding knowledge, it's all you need. But if you are just wanting a simple, straightforward theme I think it's good for that too.
The sample theme runs on the Genesis framework, so you get all the benefits of Genesis. Other themes have extra flashy styling and features such as custom post types, extra widget areas and so on. But these are just add ons. You could add them all to the sample theme equally well. The best idea is to find something close to what you already have in mind. If the sample theme meets your criteria, you're good to go.
brockMemberJust add this in the CSS stylesheet:
.more-link { color: #fff; }
June 22, 2015 at 6:56 pm in reply to: Full width feature image below primary menu in genesis #157244brockMemberYou're quite welcome and I know what you mean about the image thing! As of now it's just free-floating with no container specifically for it. So, if the dimensions of the image aren't just right it might be an issue.
June 22, 2015 at 6:29 pm in reply to: Full width feature image below primary menu in genesis #157241brockMemberFor the image height, modify your selector rule like so:
img.attachment-post-image.wp-post-image { max-height: 200px; }
For the front page, I am guessing you have a page set as the front page via customizer. You're right, it will be a PHP modification. You will modify it like this:
//* Add gray title bar add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'bc_add_gray_title_bar' ); function bc_add_gray_title_bar() { if (is_singular('page') && !is_front_page() ) { remove_action('genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_do_post_title'); } if ( is_singular('page') && !is_front_page() ) { echo "<div class='graybar'><div class='wrap'>"; echo the_title('<h1 class="entry-title">', '</h1>'); echo "</div></div>"; } }
It is the same thing although the condition is modified to no show if it's on the front page. What has been added is the
&& !is_front_page()
to the conditions. Which just means "and if it's not the front page, go ahead". Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any more problems with it.June 22, 2015 at 6:11 pm in reply to: Full width feature image below primary menu in genesis #157236brockMemberGreat!
June 22, 2015 at 6:00 pm in reply to: Full width feature image below primary menu in genesis #157234brockMemberYup, sorry I misread. So in that code everywhere it says
is_singular('post')
change it tois_singular('page')
. Also note that if the featured image isn't big enough it won't stretch full width based on what I posted. Thought I should mention that.June 22, 2015 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Full width feature image below primary menu in genesis #157230brockMemberI took a shot at your problem and here's what I have come up with. Apologies if I have misunderstood what you are going for. Also be aware that these code snippets are based on the Genesis Sample Theme.
You can paste the following code into your
functions.php
file://* Add full-width featured image above post add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'bc_add_the_featured_image' ); function bc_add_the_featured_image() { if ( is_singular( 'post' ) ) { return the_post_thumbnail( 'post-image' ); } } //* Add gray title bar add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'bc_add_gray_title_bar' ); function bc_add_gray_title_bar() { if (is_singular('post')) { remove_action('genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_do_post_title'); } if ( is_singular('post') ) { echo "<div class='graybar'><div class='wrap'>"; echo the_title('<h1 class="entry-title">', '</h1>'); echo "</div></div>"; } }
You can place the following CSS styles into your
style.css
file above the section for media queries./* BC custom styles -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ .graybar { background: #555; padding: 50px; margin-top: -8px; } .graybar .entry-title { color: #fff; font-size: 3em; }
You may want to modify the CSS according to your tastes. I am interested to know if this solves your problem. Good luck.
June 22, 2015 at 2:29 pm in reply to: how do i add "read more >>" on the posts for the whitespacepro theme? #157203brockMemberDon't add it, it's already there. Just remove it or comment it out. You can comment that line out with
//
.June 22, 2015 at 1:50 pm in reply to: how do i add "read more >>" on the posts for the whitespacepro theme? #157193brockMemberI very plain way is to find this line in your functions.php file on line 134:
//* Modify the Genesis content limit read more link //add_filter( 'get_the_content_more_link', 'whitespace_read_more_link' ); function whitespace_read_more_link() { return ''; }
Notice I commented out the
add_filter( 'get_the_content_more_link', 'whitespace_read_more_link' );
. That's what you need to do too. Then you will see there is a read more link appearing again.brockMemberThe prose theme is not HTML5 but it is responsive. Those are two different things. HTML5 deals with the newer tags used in the HTML markup and having an HTML5 site is supposed to but you in better stead with search engines.
brockMemberIt will save you some time and give you a good starting point but you have to configure it first. Go to the theme setup instructions on the StudioPress site and follow along with them.
People here will answer your questions if you have any problem and also getting your theme to look like the demo falls under the StudioPress support so you can submit a ticket for official support.
