How do you change the Primary Sidebar or remove the sidebar from the Home Page?

For other pages this is easy to do when you "Edit" the page. But for the Home page, it seems that the only way to edit the Home page is through the Appearence > Customize menu...which doesn't seem to allow you to select or modify the Primary sidebar.

One easy way to do it, assuming you want a full-width page, is to open your theme files and find the front-page.php file. Add this code to it.

//* Force full-width-content layout setting
add_filter( 'genesis_pre_get_option_site_layout', '__genesis_return_full_width_content' );

I looked at the front-page.php file. Is there any particular place where it matters to put the code you mentioned in the front-page file?

Nah, just put it before the genesis(); and make sure it's not inside of a function.

Hi...

I put that piece of code in...it didn't seem to work. The page stayed the same.

When people create a "Static" Home Page, I see some of them have what looks like a regular page...without the Primary Side bar. That's the look I'm trying to get on the Home Page.

Hi I had the same problem and in the end I switched to the outreach theme which has a full width slider. It was much less problematic.

Or did you get it sorted in the end?

Hi!

Yeah...I eventually installed the Plugin Display Widgets...which works really, really well. It did exactly what I wanted. I try to not depend on a Widget for some things...because someday...they might not work for some reason, like not compatible with a new version, etc... But, I read a lot of good things about that widget, so I figured I'd try it and deal with anything later on as it occurred. Hopefully the widget will function for a good while.
