Whitespace Pro Home Page Responsive Slideshow

I would like to replace the front page image in Whitespace Pro with a responsive slideshow of images.

I used this tutorial to set up a new widget area http://genesisdeveloper.me/adding-responsive-slider-on-home-page-whitespace-pro-theme/ and then inserted a Nextgen slideshow. See: http://suedevannyartist.com.au

I have encountered two issues with this approach:
1) there is now a whitespace between the the header and the slideshow; and
2) the slideshow is not responsive.

I welcome any assistance in addressing these two issues or guidance on an alternative approach to achieve the desired result.

The white space appears because the Nextgen gallery widget puts in a title field even if you leave it blank. To override this, add the following code to the ngg stylesheet:

.widget_slideshow h4 {
display:none;
}

Note, this will affect all slideshows across the site.

That just leaves the responsiveness issue. The page still clears Google mobile friendly test but if anyone knows an alternate widget I can use that is responsive, that would be great.

I am still interested to hear about a mobile responsive option as the Nextgen gallery slideshow is set at the 1200 pixels wide
