    Hi,
So I want to start creating my own Genesis child themes and was wondering if I do this and sell them can I also include the Genesis Framework? Or is that against Genesis/StudioPress's policy?

    Thanks!

Are you talking about splitting your profits with StudioPress or just giving out a free version of their parent theme to go with your child theme? Most theme creators I see create the child themes for the Genesis framework which the customer would need to purchase separately. You could sign up for their affiliate program and place that link on your site showing your customers where to buy the parent theme (framework).

Your question needs a lot of clarification.

Well I''ve seen a few web designers do this around, they sell a child theme for say $55 or even worse $25 and you get the Genesis framework for free! I actually just wanted to clarify if this was legal cause to me it isn't! I paid full dollar for mine and I don't think it's right these designers are doing that!!!

It's not ethical, but it's not illegal.

When you go to sell your child themes, you'll need the support from the community to get exposure.

The community will not take kindly to people who give away Genesis for free.

Some people do it and still get away with it but i think it's only a matter of time before this comes out.

The license is GPL but it's clearly a premium framework where they have invested significant time and money so giving it away is like offering illegal downloads and will be looked at that way by the community.

Many community Developers have also contributed to the ongoing development of genesis.

Better to connect with the community of people who blog about Genesis and you'll get exposure on their sites.

The fact that you ask first will be looked upon favourably by the community.

This thread has been a good reminder to again review and remove from my themes site authors that give away Genesis.

(After all, I'm sure they wouldn't be happy if people were to begin giving away their themes.)

Thanks for that, Brad. I'm looking to update the content and function so feedback and suggestions are rather welcome.
