April 23, 2015 at 11:44 pm in reply to: Add Sticky Header to Executive Pro: Problem with Header Right widget #148968upthinkParticipant
In your css I see this:
.site-header .genesis-nav-menu { float: right; width: auto; }
I suggest you remove that float: right and see
upthinkParticipantGenesis does not add it - WordPress does 🙂
Logout of the site and then see the source and it should be gone (basically this is the font that the WordPress dashboard (and the amin toolbar at the top) use
upthinkParticipantThe easy way is to simply add it to the Theme Settings options in the header section.
Another approach (that I prefer) is to create a js file and then enqueue it in your functions.php
upthinkParticipantWhy not just change the Menu so that you replace the existing Blog with the correct Blog link (which is basically a category called Blog).
upthinkParticipantIn that case - just register a sidebar (let's say call it "Slider-Sidebar"). And then call it up like this:
add_action ( ‘genesis_after_header’, ‘bw_add_slider’ ); function bw_add_slider() { dynamic_sidebar( 'Slider-Sidebar' ); }
Now use something like Display Widgets plugin to put in the shortcodes and control the page where you want to show a particular slider (basically by controlling where the widget shows up)
upthinkParticipantI believe the code should work. Is it causing you trouble?
upthinkParticipantI suggest you take a look at this:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Template_HierarchyEspecially look at the file structure graphic on the page (direct link is here). You should be able to style your taxonomy archive by placing a file with the correct file name to target just that taxonomy (or taxonomy term)
upthinkParticipantI have built websites from ground up using Genesis framework as well as a bare simple child theme of my own. Using a suitable Child theme is definitely the faster way to go than to build a child theme from scratch. BUT there is that massive amount of learning you get when you build from scratch.
Apart from setting up sites one of the reasons why I like Genesis is that it makes maintaining sites much easier. You don't have to chase stuff in a number of files and once you build a number of websites then the fact that all of them share the same basic frame(structure) helps in making maintenance/modifications easier.
upthinkParticipantIf you have to do a Php redirect based on the processing then do it using the hook you have (I do think it should be getting called ok). But if no redirect is needed then I suggest use a hook below and put in a couple of echo statements to see if it is getting called and a possible solution. I am afraid I cannot suggest anything better based on the limited info available 🙂
upthinkParticipantThe hook you have mentioned will be executed before anything else - so is the email address or whatever else you are trying to process even available at that point in time?
upthinkParticipantThis one has the navigation pulled up using a negative margin. So around line 1903 (actual line may be different depending on what customizations you have done) you will see the rule below:
.navigation-container { background-color: #fff; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; border-top: 1px solid #000; margin-bottom: 98px; margin-top: -170px; min-height: 70px; }
Remove this line and I think that should get you closer - you will still have to tweak it to make it look good
margin-top: -170px;
upthinkParticipantGlad to help 🙂
upthinkParticipantOk I see what you mean. basically the function get_the_author() will only work in the WP loop. So whenever you go outside the loop it becomes unavailable. I guess something like this can work:
function vt_author_box() { global $post; $author_id=$post->post_author; $output = ”; if( get_the_author_meta(‘genesis_author_box_single’, $author_id) == 1 ) : $output .= ‘<div class=”author-box”>'; $output .= ‘<h3 class=”author-title”>Staff Blog</h3>'; $output .= get_avatar(get_the_author_meta(‘user_email’, $author_id), 75); $output .= get_the_author_meta(‘display_name’, $author_id); $output .= ‘<div class=”author-inner”>'; $output .= ‘<div class=”inner-left”>'; $output .= ‘</div>'; $output .= ‘<div class=”inner-right”>'; $output .= wpautop(get_the_author_meta(‘description’, $author_id)); $output .= ‘</div>'; $output .= ‘<div class=”clear”></div>'; $output .= ‘</div>'; $output .= ‘</div>'; endif; if ( is_single() && in_category( ’49’ ) ) { echo $output; } }
Not tested - you may need to tweak it or it may give an error
upthinkParticipantWhy not do something like this:
add_action( 'genesis_header', 'vt_author_box', 99 );
upthinkParticipantI suggest you do this
- Take a backup of your existing theme folder - especially the genesis child theme(s) you want to work with
- Rename/Remove the existing themes folder
- Create a themes folder (it should be exactly spelled as "themes"
- Download a fresh copy of the Twenty fifteen theme and place it there (once you place that theme the particular theme directory is exactly "twentyfifteen" unless you modify it - which you don't need to
This should hopefully help you to get the site online and then you can place the old genesis and child theme to see what is going on
upthinkParticipantYou could also try to check the server error log (if you have access to it) to see if there is an error that is causing this
April 16, 2015 at 11:50 pm in reply to: How do I make a button, when clicked causes a pop-up asking for NAME / EMAIL? #148179upthinkParticipantWhy not use something like Easy Fancybox to open a popup like this? Just create a page using the Landing page template and put in the optin form there - then call that page using Fancybox on your button
