MemberHi,
I design and started developing wordpress sites and would like to inquire about this framework.
Are there any limitations for this framework?
Are custom shortcodes available within this framework?
I wouldn't mind paying for the framework just as long as I know what the limitations are for a developer from the start.
Thanks.

ParticipantThe only short codes included are for the post info in the entry header and entry footer.
You can use any short codes plugin or hand coded short codes.
The Genesis framework adds custom functionality which extends WordPress to make it easier to customise/modify your site using a child theme like what Studiopress offer.
All modifications should be completed within the child theme which is protected from updates to WordPress and Genesis.

ModeratorI've been building sites with Genesis for 5 years. I haven't encountered any limitations. I've always been able to deliver what the clients want.

MemberBrad and Victor, Thanks for your input.
For Victor, have you built a wordpress site from the ground up using the framework without using one of the child themes available? If so, was it difficult to understand the ins and outs of the framework.

ParticipantI have built websites from ground up using Genesis framework as well as a bare simple child theme of my own. Using a suitable Child theme is definitely the faster way to go than to build a child theme from scratch. BUT there is that massive amount of learning you get when you build from scratch.
Apart from setting up sites one of the reasons why I like Genesis is that it makes maintaining sites much easier. You don't have to chase stuff in a number of files and once you build a number of websites then the fact that all of them share the same basic frame(structure) helps in making maintenance/modifications easier.

ModeratorArtistkid3, yes, I have built a child themes from the ground up. The framework is not too difficult to learn. There a some very good Genesis tutorials available on the internet.

MemberGenesis is very much (in my opinion) a developer framework. If you are comfortable with PHP / HTML / CSS and jQuery and the WordPress Codex you will get along fine once you have studied the Genesis Hooks.
If you are not a developer but more used to premium themes, then you might look at Dynamik which makes Genesis a bit more friendly.

MemberThanks for the feed back guys. I'll definitely try to build one from the ground up. But look
at some tutorials first.I'm used to working bare bones with wordpress to start projects but feel that I'm using similar
features from project to project so I think a framework like this one can help speed up production.I've never worked with frameworks before so this will be a challenge to learn. Thanks again.
