I guess it depends on the subject matter (and audience) of your site. A professional business blog probably wouldn't want to have that, but then someone like The Pioneer Woman, who is known for professional photography features Instagram pictures in some of her posts.
SusanModeratorAbsolutely!
March 6, 2013 at 9:00 pm in reply to: Mobile responsive: Client concerns for search, subscribe and categories #24715SusanModeratorI haven't done anything like that as yet, but my first thought would be to have a widgeted area below the sub-nav, and above the first post...
I'm currently working a site on the Glitter and Lace theme. This theme isn't mobile responsive, but it has the kind of widgeted are I am talking about (on this site, it's for Instagram pictures). Having something like that with a user profile etc. might be beneficial.
The Metro theme has the search button in the header right, so when viewed on a mobile device, it is front and center of the device.
SusanModeratorCan you please include a link to your site so I can take a look.
Do you have your site name and tagline set in Appearance > General Settings?
SusanModeratorYeah, the User Profile widget is designed specifically to grab your Gravatar.
I recommend using a plain text widget, and populating it with the code for an image, and some text about you (look at my site - link in my signature, for an example).
SusanModeratorHave you looked at the Genesis eNews extended plugin?
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/genesis-enews-extended/
The Metro theme has a newsletter sign up box using this pluging, and you can style the sign-up box in the stylesheet for the plugin
SusanModeratorIn your theme functions php, look for this:
/** Add support for custom header */ add_theme_support( 'genesis-custom-header', array( 'width' => 1060, 'height' => 120 ) );
Adjust the size to suit your header size.
SusanModeratorGo into your slider settings, and under "Slider Content" change the text you would like to appear.
SusanModeratorRemove this from the home.php file
add_action('genesis_post_content', 'the_excerpt');
SusanModeratorThanks for sharing!
SusanModeratorIf you have a sidebar (or other widgeted area) on your site, and you no longer wish to have it on your site, you can "unregister" it, so that it is no longer functional for your site.
Say, for example, you have footers, and you don't want them - a footer is a sidebar. Unregistering them will make them disappear from your site.
SusanModeratorWow! You are great at this.
Thank you - I'm no expert, but I've been hanging around here too long.
As for the header, if you feel comfortable, I'd be happy to log into your site and upload another header for you - shoot me an e-mail...
Are you talking about flush with the header to the left, or above the box? If you look at the demo site, you can see that the posts are indented slightly from both the right and left of the header. Technically, you could move it, but it would involve adjusting your functions file, and I don't think you want to go there just yet. 😉
SusanModeratorAs this issue is resolved, I am going to close this thread. Start a new thread if you have another question. 🙂
SusanModeratorIf StudioPress update a child theme, you aren't forced to upgrade your theme. But, if you decide you would like to upgrade, then you need a way to keep your changes. You couldn't have a separate CSS file. My recommendation is when you are updating your stylesheet, you keep good, descriptive notes inside the stylesheet, so that if you want to update, you will know what changes you made. It doesn't necessarily have to be at the end of the child theme CSS file.
SusanModeratorI'm all about keeping it simple, so I would go with the Simple Quick Blog category. Maybe add its own menu item, or link in the sidebar, or something like that ...
SusanModeratorThe slider isn't blocking your sub-nav - in looking at your code, you don't have it enabled. Did you make sure you have selected which menu to appear in the sub-nav drop-down?
I'm not seeing any issues with the images - do you have a post you can point to with a problem with the image?
SusanModeratorWould the News theme fill your needs? You can create the categories to show on the home, and they would automatically update as you update blog posts.
SusanModerator1. The left margin doesn't sit flush with the header. Is that what you are talking about? Some of your posts don't have featured images, which is why the boxes are different sizes. Also, keep note that post title length will also impact the size of the boxes.
2. The "You are here: home" are the breadcrumbs. To disable them, go to Genesis > Theme Settings > Breadcrumbs. Uncheck the box for breadcrumbs. Save settings.
3. You can replace the header on your hosting site (which I suggested in your other thread. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then upload a new header to your media library, grab the URL of the header, and then look for this in your stylesheet. Replace (images/header.png) with the URL of your image
/***** Header ********************/ #header { background: url(images/header.png); width: 960px; height: 100px; margin: 10px auto 0; -moz-box-shadow: 0 0 3px #BBBBBB; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 3px #BBBBBB; }
SusanModeratorYes - if you can access the Downloads, but your themes aren't there, the help ticket is the way to go.
I'll close this thread as "resolved" - go ahead and open another one if you have any more questions.
SusanModeratorAt the top right hand side of this screen, there is a "MyStudioPress" link, with a drop down for "Downloads". Click that, and log in, based on your e-mail address used when you bought the themes. Your login there is separate from the login for this forum.
If you have difficulties accessing the themes, you can submit a help ticket here: http://www.studiopress.com/account-assistance
