Not too girly! It looks kind of gender neutral - there are elements there which will appeal to both genders.
SusanModeratorHave you considered the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified plugin? That allows you to limit the number of characters which appear on the post title within the widget itself, rather than on the post page?
SusanModeratorIf you are looking for an alternative - I use Mail Chimp's free service.
May 1, 2013 at 4:25 pm in reply to: how to have more categories when both navigation menus are already filled up #38838SusanModeratorGordy - it's not a plugin - you should just see it in your widget area - it's called "Categories", and yes, you can chose what to display (or not display).
SusanModeratorThere is a dropdown next to "Enable Extras on Right Side", which has "Twitter link" at the bottom.
SusanModeratorTry this tool:
http://whatwpthemeisthat.com - it lists the theme, and all the plugins used for any WP site.
May 1, 2013 at 10:23 am in reply to: how to have more categories when both navigation menus are already filled up #38769SusanModeratorGordy - my blog is just my crafting site - the link is in my earlier post. Look in the sidebar on the left, you will see the different category styles.
May 1, 2013 at 6:17 am in reply to: how to have more categories when both navigation menus are already filled up #38729SusanModeratorGordy - use the "Category" widget - you can see it in action in the sidebar of my own blog - just for you, I added that widget in all it's configurations to the sidebar - categories as drop-down; categories as hierarchy, and categories with post count.
SusanModeratorMake sure you are logged in to my.studiopress.com, then it will recognize that you are a returning customer, and will give you the option of buying the theme only (at the discounted price for current customers).
April 30, 2013 at 2:44 pm in reply to: how to have more categories when both navigation menus are already filled up #38627SusanModeratorYou can create as many categories as you won't - you don't have to add them to your menu.
If you want users to be able to search your site by categories, have you considered adding a category search widget to your sidebar (or somewhere else on your site)?
SusanModeratorYou can call a "blog" page anything you want. Create a page, and select "blog" from the drop-down template type on that page.
Since you haven't posted your URL, I can't see how your home page is set up, or where you have attempted to create a blog in order to be able to assist you further.
SusanModeratorWP 3.5.1 has been out for a while, and it should be safe to upgrade to the latest version of both WP and Genesis.
SusanModeratorfssbob:
I think you should rename a customized child theme:
Pros - if you want to use the base child theme again to customize to another child theme, you're not going to mess up all the work you put into customizing the theme. (It's easier to re-use the same theme again and again if you rename them).
If the theme is updated, and you don't think about it, and update the original child theme, you will lose all your changes.
Cons - I can't really think of one...
SusanModeratorYou're welcome. I will close this thread as resolved.
SusanModerator@ModernMuse - refer to FAQ #5 for how to add code: http://www.studiopress.community/faq/
For larger blocks of code, it's recommended that rather than attempt to put it all here in the forum, that you add a Gist.
I'm going to go ahead and edit your posts to remove the code...
April 29, 2013 at 9:44 am in reply to: Metro Theme: tagline not visible; site title too long for iphone? #38423SusanModeratorGreat! If they give a recommendation, come here and add it to this thread, so others will know the solution!
April 29, 2013 at 9:39 am in reply to: Metro Theme: tagline not visible; site title too long for iphone? #38420SusanModeratorI’m thinking at some point it’s easier to just make an image with the site title and tagline and use that!
That was going to be my second suggestion 🙂
You might want to put in a help ticket - they will either tell you what to add, or tell you it's not in the theme, so you'll have to come back here, but it wouldn't hurt to ask...
April 29, 2013 at 9:34 am in reply to: Metro Theme: tagline not visible; site title too long for iphone? #38418SusanModeratorKay9 - it doesn't look like the Metro theme has #description in the stylesheet, which is how a tagline usually populates. I would be inclined to grab the code from another theme (or the genesis framework), and add it to you stylesheet - you'll probably have to do a little styling to get it to look right.

SusanModeratorYou're welcome - I wasn't sure if it was resolved. I'll go ahead and close this thread as "resolved".
