ooops, wrong thread.
August 8, 2013 at 3:54 pm in reply to: Why you shouldn't fear updating to Genesis 2.0 [from 1.9, but should from 2.0RC2 #55106MealtogMemberok, the technical changes that needs to be edited seems a bit overwhelming and more importantly, manual editing may lead to issues later since it was not done through automation. Here I thought running RC2 would help us transition easier when 2 was released and now this. Should have stuck to 1.9 and waited.
If I wanted to avoid all the technical edits, is it easier to uninstall Genesis and Child theme and re-install WP3.6, using the Reinstall Button for WP and then reinstall Genesis 2 + child theme? We are not too far along in dev and I can probably reconfigure everything from scratch within a day's work.
Where would we completely uninstall Genesis and start from scratch?
Any thoughts would be most helpful. 🙁
August 7, 2013 at 12:39 am in reply to: Has anybody tried using Genesis eNews Extended with MailChimp groups? #54509MealtogMemberThat is interesting. Let me know if you find a solution for this setup. Interesting indeed.
MealtogMemberHey Gary, sounds like a great way to get this done. And yes, can you recommend some plugins that I should research and test?
MealtogMemberWhat site did you use to check this issue. I was also wondering about this but I think you can disable the text (name of site) from showing in the header section.
MealtogMemberSorry, wrong URL. I meant this one: http://www.copyblogger.com/wordpress-google-authorship/
It seems there is already a G+ field in each author's editing screen. Maybe that tutorial was for a prior version of Genesis?
ok, going too fast. Mixed up both URL's. There is no coding for adding G+ authorship. It's built in!
MealtogMemberok< i think I get it. I changed the width to 97% and it automatically shrunk the height for me. I also display content (text from the posts) and I limited it to 50 and it auto shrunk it even more. I used the limit of the excerpt to adjust the height of the area you are referring to. Not sure if this helps.
Adjust it to 95 and show us what happens.
MealtogMemberIs this the Responsive Slider put our for Genesis? If so, scroll to the bottom of the editing section and find "Slider Excerpt Width (in percentage)". Change that to 97% or so. Try it.
By the way, I love chicken rice 🙂
MealtogMemberHey Brad, the link you provided: https://gist.github.com/gregrickaby/2838395
This is so that you can add G+ profile URLS when there are multiple authors? By default, it's not available?
MealtogMemberThanks for the link brad. All the more reason I don't want to continue to develop on a theme that is not HTML 5. It's sort of hurry up and wait at this point.
MealtogMemberHey Brad, I followed a detailed tutorial that even included a link to a CSS converter tool. I followed it, updated the CSS file. I think it looked for # and changed it to . in the CSS file and it just flat out broke the layout for Metro. Yes, it was a 2 minute job but it did not work when I did it.
MealtogMemberWord on the street is (via Brian's tweet), Gen 2 will be released with new themes and only the top current themes will be updated to HTML 5.
William, I think I may just uninstall that beta plug in too. I agree. I want something that just works and is stable. I am hoping Genesis 2 is it.
Will see how much work we may have to re-do since we have started customization of Metro already.
MealtogMemberYes, I can't wait. I went through all the tutorials on how to update CSS to be HTML 5 compliant. Running Gen 2 beta and tried to update Metro CSS and site layout falls apart. Just tweeted Brian to see if all themes will come HTML 5 compliant with Gen 2 roll out. Fingers crossed. I don't want to have to update Metro after we have highly customized it.
MealtogMemberAre there previews for the new themes? Would love to take a look.
MealtogMemberYes, I see that. At the moment, site is password protected so I can't share anything yet. I have found a different solution by not using the header but hacking things so it will use logo.png. Seems to work, but thanks for your input!
MealtogMemberI have already installed 1.9.2. Is there a way to update it using Genesis inside WP? THought I might as well develop on the latest version.
MealtogMemberok, just remembered in WordPress, there is a massive problem if we change permalinks. There is no auto-update of slugs and links from all posts and pages.
ie. When I change Permalink Settings from Post name to Numeric, all links break within the Category pages. There has got to be some way to automatically manage this with a plugin in WordPress?
MealtogMemberSince we are discussing plugins, is there a plugin that will update the slug of the post after we change the post title after it has been published? Drupal handles this with an auto 301 redirect. Is there such a thing in WordPress?
MealtogMemberI see Akismet is still part of the default install.
Just installed Genesis eNews Extended, pretty cool! Bookmarked Simple Sidebars and installed Jetpack. Seems pretty powerful. btw, when you connect your wordpress site to wordpress.com, what actually happens in the background? Site is password protected during development so can't do it yet.
MealtogMemberSo what kind of potential problems could arise from just uploading and inserting a normal image within the body of the post? In order to display the image in feeds and category pages, wouldn't you need an image within the body as well?
