    Kitty,

I was like you with Thesis. I moved to Genesis for a combination of reasons, but not being able to implement Version 2 was a big one. But I really did get to know a lot of the smart folks on their forum due to their rapid and helpful replies. One major difference here is that the Thesis forum WAS the official support. Here, the forum is not considered official support. But the Genesis official support in My Studio Press is really terrific - just in case you haven't used it yet.

    Welcome to Genesis!

    Rachel,

To start a new thread, you go to the bottom of the forum page. I know, it seems backwards. But that's where you do it. Hope that helps.

November 3, 2013 at 11:51 pm in reply to: No Post Titles On Blog Page? #70763
    KenTheriot
    Member

OK, I found out why the titles were not showing on the excerpts. In Theme Settings, In the Title Toggle box, I had a check mark in "By default, remove titles in the page post type." I unchecked it, and the titles came back to the excerpts. I checked it initially because I didn't want the title of Pages to automatically show up at the top. But since the "blog" page is a Page, it removes the titles from even the post summaries. This seems like a mistake or an oversight or something.

Is there a way to have the titles not show up on pages (the intent of the "By default, remove titles in the page post type" option) while simultaneously allowing the titles of post excerpts to show up on the blog page?

    Thanks.

Thanks Anitac. I changed it to a 1 and then all I get is the headline of the first post. And it seems like that is the case no matter what non-zero number I put in there. Is there no way to make it be the picture and the first hundred words of the post or something like that?

Your answer did help a lot though! As a "next-best-thing" I've set the number of features to 0, which is closer to what I want than what I had.

The main problem was that if the entire post was visible on the blog page, there was no reason for folks to click through to the article.

    Thanks.

Thanks Andrea. I'm still a bit confused though. That tutorial says: "Next thing you need to do is go to your user profile page, Users ยป My Profile. You will see a new field under Contact Info for your twitter username." This is supposed to happen after you add your Twitter username in the Social area in the Yoast Plugin.

So I added my business Twitter Username and checked the "Add Twitter Card Metadata" box. But when I go to my user profile, there is no new field under Contact Info for the my Twitter username.

Any ideas on that? I DO have a bunch of social profile fields there from another plugin though - AuthorSure - which is for dealing with rel=author and other author stuff. I'm wondering if that Twitter entry will work for the Yoast Twitter Card functionality.

    Thanks again.

Thanks. I had someone help me set up W3TotalCache, so it's probably pretty well tuned as far as what can be done with the "check-box" options (no CDN or anything extra done). As for the other things you mentioned I honestly don't really understand them;-P. I'll check with Servint.

    Thanks.

Thanks Brad. I think I have that. Servint's hosting plans all say "Flex VPS Instantly scalable. Easily configurable. Fully managed."

Or are you referring to something else. Sorry for being a bit dense on this stuff. I'm learning, but there's a lot to learn.

    Cheers!

OK. I figured it out, thanks to Nick's tutorial here: http://designsbynickthegeek.com/tutorials/add-widgeted-sidebar

The answer was to put the register code and the add-action code into the child theme's Functions.php. Then style it in Style.css.

    Hope that helps someone else.

    Thanks Gary,

I don't remember changing the number of posts that display on a date archive (or general archive). Where/how would I make a change like that. It might just be the best thing to set it back to 5, which will create the 2nd page and solve the problem.

    Thanks again!
