JamesParticipant
it does take time to learn all this new stuff
i think Genesis 2.2 is going to have more schema markup as well.
JamesParticipantyep, would love to check the code, good for reference too should something similar come up
funny, creating a custom loop is no big deal for either posts or custom post types, but both at the same time got me stumped.
i'm not sure whether to create a loop and add the CPT to it, or create 2 loops, one for each
perhaps your friend will shed some light here.
JamesParticipantcool, no problem
was that the home page here http://www.sarah.webstantly.com/, and she wants all that on the search page?
JamesParticipantdo you have a link to the site?
JamesParticipantsorry, i'm not really sure myself on that one
this is probably not the best place to get advice on this, it is really for direct theme issues
have you tried the Genesis community on google+
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/113206330486200023679
there are a lot more Genesis folks on there, some SEO experts specializing in this sort of thing.
JamesParticipanthi Billy
you could virtually just place that at the very bottom of the style.css
JamesParticipantHi there
google pagespeed is just a there to suggest for what you "can" do if you like, it is not meant to govern how we should built websites
we must take into account the practicality of what is suggests
for example, if you run the Parallax Pro theme through the speed test, it will give an error for mobiles
this does not mean there is an issue with the theme, the javascript that the pagespeed test is pointing out is a necessary part of the themes functionally, so we scrap that suggestion from google.
I can't suggest what you should do with your content, you would need to pursue the appropriate google forums for that as it isn't a direct theme issue.
JamesParticipantcool, let Sridhar do that then if he has already started.
keep me posted
JamesParticipantsome css will do the job
this will stop the site title text from showing, add this to your themes style.css
.site-title { display: block; margin: 0; text-indent: -9999px; }
JamesParticipantyou say sridhar is taking a look at this as well?
he would be faster than i am, as he has a lot of stuff already written
let me know how you go
JamesParticipantI understand
When is the project deadline ?
it is night time here now, so i wouldn't be able to look at anything further till tomorrow for you
JamesParticipanti'm not seeing any text, looks like you have just not included the title for now
check your wordpress settings > appearance > header, you should be able to deactivate the text there.
JamesParticipantthat would require quite a bit of work and testing, more than i can offer for free on the forum.
it is unusual to want to duplicate the home page on a search results page, why not just have a link back to the home page?
JamesParticipanthere is some info on optimizing above the fold content
https://www.feedthebot.com/pagespeed/prioritize-visible-content.html
JamesParticipantin the code I pasted above, you can see the image dimensions
'width' => 360, 'height' => 60,
you change this to whatever you want, then just refresh your WordPress admin and the new sizes will be applied.
JamesParticipanthere you go
this goes in the functions.php
//* Remove The Default No Posts Action remove_action( 'genesis_loop_else', 'genesis_do_noposts' ); //* Add custom action add_action( 'genesis_loop_else', 'my_do_noposts' ); function my_do_noposts() { $term = $_GET['s']; // store the search term in a variable echo '<div class="post">'; echo '<h1 class="entry-title">Search Results: ' . $term . '</h1>'; echo '<div class="entry-content">'; printf( '<p>%s</p>', apply_filters( 'genesis_noposts_text', __( 'Sorry. I don\'t have anything in the archives that matches your criteria. Try another search term or use the archive links below.', 'genesis' ) ) ); include('search-helper.php'); echo '</div><!-- close entry-content -->'; echo '</div><!-- close post -->'; }
and create a file called search-helper.php and add it to your main theme folder
and add this to that file
<div class="archive-page"> <h4><?php _e( 'Categories', 'genesis' ); ?></h4> <ul> <?php wp_list_categories( 'sort_column=name&title_li=' ); ?> </ul> <h4><?php _e( 'Articles by Month', 'genesis' ); ?></h4> <p> <select name="archive-dropdown" onchange="document.location.href=this.options[this.selectedIndex].value;"> <option value=""><?php echo esc_attr( __( 'Select Month' ) ); ?></option> <?php wp_get_archives( 'type=monthly&format=option&show_post_count=1' ); ?> </select> </p> </div><!-- end .archive-page--> <div class="archive-page"> <h4><?php _e( 'Tags', 'genesis' ); ?></h4> <ul> <?php wp_tag_cloud(); ?> </ul> </div><!-- end .archive-page--> <h4 style="clear:both"><?php _e( 'Article Listing', 'genesis' ); ?></h4> <ul> <?php wp_get_archives( 'type=postbypost&limit=50' ); ?> </ul>
JamesParticipantThis should do the trick for you
add it to your functions.php
//* Remove nextpage pagination from home and archive add_action( 'genesis_before', 'jm_remove_content_nav' ); function jm_remove_content_nav() { if (is_home() || is_archive()) { remove_action( 'genesis_entry_content', 'genesis_do_post_content_nav', 12 ); } }
JamesParticipantthis will change the body text color
body { color: #000; }
and get rid of the color in the header
.site-header { background-color: transparent !important; }
JamesParticipantyou just need to add this to your function.php file
//* Add support for custom header add_theme_support( 'custom-header', array( 'width' => 360, 'height' => 60, 'header-selector' => '.site-title a', 'header-text' => false ) );
JamesParticipanttry using this tool to make sure your code is correct for what you are displaying.
