Can you post a link to your site/page ... so that we - or Herr Herr (sorry - couldn't resist) - can see what you've done?
It may be as simple as not having cleared down cache 🙂
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInJune 22, 2015 at 10:16 pm in reply to: How to make site title appear only after scroll starts #157255Erik D. SlaterMemberErik D. SlaterMemberI actually did take a look initially ... but the links provided were getting me all confused, e.g. this link here wasn't going to where I think the OP had intended.
Then I saw that you (the Moodster) took on the task of trying to solve the problem ... so I thought I'd leave it in your capable 🙂
I'm still a bit fuzzy on the issue ... but I'm also interested 🙂
The thing is ... on my 23-inch monitor, I see no issues between carousel version and direct version.
Is possible to take a screenshot of an image that is causing the carousel vs non-carousel conflict?
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberbloomweb: Are you looking for the background image effect that looks something like Sixteen Nine or Parallax?
Apologies if I have misunderstood. I'm finding this thread a bit confusing ...
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberIf you want to see what non-logged in users see, you need to do things like:
(1) clear down W3 Total Cache or equivalent (if you use it)
(2) view your site in a separate browserRight now, I'm seeing the 150x150 versions (see screenshot) which is being resized by Photon as per Settings -> Media.
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberGreat 🙂
I'm going to take down that test site then. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything 🙂
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberActually, what I meant was ... with Photon activated, what were the dimensions of the images on the http://veronicacolvin.com/portfolio/special-effects/ gallery? Right now, I'm still seeing the smaller images.
Was there somewhere in your admin dashboard where you could set those dimensions?
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberLet me know if/when you get this working ...
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberErik D. SlaterMemberWhen you use a decent text editor that can perform search activities in seconds, it's amazing how quickly you can find source code 🙂
Ordinarily, I wouldn't have a problem providing the code for things that are supposed to be modified. Sometimes, plugins provide hooks ... in which case, no problems at all.
But when you are making changes to code that could be overwritten by an update? And when most people on here don't know what they're doing at the best of times? Things don't usually end well 🙂
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberI don't know what changes you have made there ... but here it is ... use at your own risk 🙂
You will need to navigate your way to the plugins folder ... then find - and go into - genesis-author-pro.
Firstly:
- go into the classes folder
- find the Genesis_Author_Pro_Book_Meta.php file
- make a copy of it!!
- open the Genesis_Author_Pro_Book_Meta.php file
- look for the following code:array( 'name' => 'button_3', 'label' => __( 'Button 3', 'genesis-author-pro' ), 'description' => __( 'This will create a button on the book page that can be used as a link for purchase, download, etc.', 'genesis-author-pro' ), 'type' => 'button', ),
- duplicate this code block ... then change button_3 to button_4, etc, and Button 3 to Button 4, etc (add as many as you require)
- save the fileSecondly:
- go into the functions folder
- find the template.php file
- make a copy of it!!
- open the template.php file
- look for the following code:
$buttons = array( 'button_1', 'button_2', 'button_3' );
- modify this line to look something similar to:
$buttons = array( 'button_1', 'button_2', 'button_3', 'button_4' );
(add as many as you require)
- save the fileObviously ... it should go without saying ... that the number of buttons in the two sets of changes above should match!!
I should also point out that I am not providing formal support for this change 🙂
And just in case people are not aware ... I do NOT work for Copyblogger Media in any shape or form ... including StudioPress 🙂
I feel like I should be burning in hell right about now 🙂
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberOK. So Photon was doing something then. There are a lot of data parameters in these images, e.g. for the first image (top left), this is how the link appears:
<a href='http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg'><img width="150" height="150" src="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Witch - Prosthetic Nose/Chin" aria-describedby="gallery-2-3387" data-attachment-id="3387" data-orig-file="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg" data-orig-size="427,640" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1434214550","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Witch – Prosthetic Nose/Chin" data-image-description="<p>Latex prosthetic nose, plus chin made out of scar wax</p> " data-medium-file="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05-200x300.jpg" data-large-file="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg" /></a>
The default image dimensions are 150x150. What were/are the dimensions when Photon is active?
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberThe change involves a simple modification to two PHP files in the plugin ... but why do I feel like this was a bad idea? 🙂
Hmmm ...
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberOK. I see the problem ... and I have implemented the solution on a test site ... but it involved changing the Genesis Author Pro plugin. If the plugin gets updated - automatically or manually - the changes will be lost.
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberWondering if CloudFlare will replace what Photon did
No. Photon has certain functionality that handles images in a certain way. CloudFlare is just a CDN. Well ... actually ... it's more than that ... but for the purposes of this discussion, it's just a CDN 🙂
The only reason I would advise you to use CloudFlare is to simply replace the CDN aspect that Photon provides.
Visually – the portfolio sections looked better with Photon activated.
Can you provide a screenshot of the differences?
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberI'm actually installing the demo version on a test site as I speak ... because I'm not entirely clear what the problem is 🙂
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberErik D. SlaterMemberWell ... you're already using Google Analytics 🙂
Check this link here ... scroll down to 4. Site Search ... and follow the instructions there. The search parameter you need is the letter s ... e.g. http://happyhealthyrelationship.com/?s=relationship
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberAhhhh ... you didn't quite follow my instructions there. You added the open comment too early ... and you didn't add the crucial line that makes the magic work 🙂
Here is the full code for that file, complete with my initial proposal:
jQuery(function( $ ){ /* if( $( document ).scrollTop() > 0 ){ $( '.site-header' ).addClass( 'dark' ); } // Add opacity class to site header $( document ).on('scroll', function(){ if ( $( document ).scrollTop() > 0 ){ $( '.site-header' ).addClass( 'dark' ); } else { $( '.site-header' ).removeClass( 'dark' ); } }); */ $( '.site-header' ).addClass( 'dark' ); $( '.nav-primary .genesis-nav-menu, .nav-secondary .genesis-nav-menu' ).addClass( 'responsive-menu' ).before('<div class="responsive-menu-icon"></div>'); $( '.responsive-menu-icon' ).click(function(){ $(this).next( '.nav-primary .genesis-nav-menu, .nav-secondary .genesis-nav-menu' ).slideToggle(); }); $( window ).resize(function(){ if ( window.innerWidth > 800 ) { $( '.nav-primary .genesis-nav-menu, .nav-secondary .genesis-nav-menu, nav .sub-menu' ).removeAttr( 'style' ); $( '.responsive-menu > .menu-item' ).removeClass( 'menu-open' ); } }); $( '.responsive-menu > .menu-item' ).click(function(event){ if ( event.target !== this ) return; $(this).find( '.sub-menu:first' ).slideToggle(function() { $(this).parent().toggleClass( 'menu-open' ); }); }); });
Erik D. Slater: Digital Platform Consultant • LinkedInErik D. SlaterMemberVeronica: No rush on our parts. Moody and I are happy to help out as best we can 🙂 To begin with, just try the Photon deactivate thing before doing anything with CloudFlare ... just to confirm that Photon really is the issue here. Step by step 🙂
Moodster: I honestly don't know exactly how the compression stuff itself truly works ... but I have tried out those compression tools and have always been disappointed. Nowadays, if I'm working with images, I'll export (i.e. flatten) the original photos at 100% (i.e. no compression at all) ... then run them through Compressor.io or Kraken.io ... then I'll do an eyeball check to ensure therer is no loss. The results tend to be virtually flawless.
