Thanks, Erik...so what you're saying is that she should disable Photon and see if that makes the difference?

(I've never used Photon so not sure how it works.)

    Morning!

Thank you so much for both looking into this! I am on an opposite timezone to you both, so just saw these messages.

I have gone into Jetpack and turned Photon off. I will be updating images throughout today so will let you know if the problem continues. Again, thank you for your help! 🙂

Disabling Photon would be the first step here, I believe. Hopefully, that will resolve the issue. I'm reasonably confident it will because we're trying to prevent the Jetpack version of the image.

Instead of using Jetpack to serve images (and even modify them), CloudFlare would be a better CDN option. For one thing, you can clear CloudFlare's cache of your resources ... something you can't do with Jetpack.

Oh, and thanks for the info about how the "Save for Web" works...I would have had no idea about that...totally outside my field of reference...I thought it all just worked with magic or something.

Thanks Erik - I will have a look at CloudFare and let you both know how I go.

Please bear with me, I have been sick with a cold the last few days so if I don't get back to you today, will so tomorrow. Don't know how long I will last sitting in front of this screen! >.<

Veronica: No rush on our parts. Moody and I are happy to help out as best we can 🙂 To begin with, just try the Photon deactivate thing before doing anything with CloudFlare ... just to confirm that Photon really is the issue here. Step by step 🙂

Moodster: I honestly don't know exactly how the compression stuff itself truly works ... but I have tried out those compression tools and have always been disappointed. Nowadays, if I'm working with images, I'll export (i.e. flatten) the original photos at 100% (i.e. no compression at all) ... then run them through Compressor.io or Kraken.io ... then I'll do an eyeball check to ensure therer is no loss. The results tend to be virtually flawless.

Hello - it is Photon that was causing the problem. Just by deactivating it, it shows the images at their true colours, for example, the one we have been testing with -

    http://veronicacolvin.com/portfolio/editorial-and-beauty/#jp-carousel-3383 (warm - true colour)

    http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Kahli_VL815_Cropii-websize-v2.jpg (warm - true colour)

As soon as I activate Photon, that image goes back to cool.

My challenge now is that by deactivating Photon, it has changed the format of how the images are displayed in the Portfolio sections i.e. it has made them smaller, and for the sections that have text underneath each image, the text is now longer than the image displayed (looks sloppy - unprofessional). For example:

    http://veronicacolvin.com/portfolio/special-effects/

Visually - the portfolio sections looked better with Photon activated. Wondering if CloudFlare will replace what Photon did...

I didn't want to go and download/activate CloudFlare without advising you first... and see what you recommend.

    Many thanks for your help!

No. Photon has certain functionality that handles images in a certain way. CloudFlare is just a CDN. Well ... actually ... it's more than that ... but for the purposes of this discussion, it's just a CDN 🙂

The only reason I would advise you to use CloudFlare is to simply replace the CDN aspect that Photon provides.

Visually – the portfolio sections looked better with Photon activated.

Can you provide a screenshot of the differences?

OK. So Photon was doing something then. There are a lot of data parameters in these images, e.g. for the first image (top left), this is how the link appears:

    <a href='http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg'><img width="150" height="150" src="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Witch - Prosthetic Nose/Chin" aria-describedby="gallery-2-3387" data-attachment-id="3387" data-orig-file="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg" data-orig-size="427,640" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1434214550&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Witch – Prosthetic Nose/Chin" data-image-description="<p>Latex prosthetic nose, plus chin made out of scar wax</p>
    " data-medium-file="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05-200x300.jpg" data-large-file="http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg" /></a>

The default image dimensions are 150x150. What were/are the dimensions when Photon is active?

I have left Photon active - in case you want to have a look now.

Here is the image you are querying (with Photon Active)

    http://i2.wp.com/veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Witch05.jpg

Dimensions are: Original dimensions 427 ?— 640 (I got this from clicking on the image in the Edit section - http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Screen-shot-2015-06-22-at-1.08.47-PM.png)

I hope I have given you the info you are after.

Actually, what I meant was ... with Photon activated, what were the dimensions of the images on the http://veronicacolvin.com/portfolio/special-effects/ gallery? Right now, I'm still seeing the smaller images.

Was there somewhere in your admin dashboard where you could set those dimensions?

No, I have never set the image sizes as they are part of the format.

Please see screen grabs of the choices I have:

http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Screen-shot-2015-06-22-at-1.08.47-PM.png (shows the actual size of the file)

http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Screen-shot-2015-06-22-at-1.59.07-PM.png (shows the options that I have to choose for the image - I always leave it on Thumbnail - I never touch this)

http://veronicacolvin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Screen-shot-2015-06-22-at-2.21.39-PM.png (different sizes for each of the images - I have never touched this - I have managed to capture most of the content on the screen for the Media Settings section - just the Saved button is missing from this image)

At the moment I have Photon on and I can see all my images as larger (with the text displaying correctly underneath). I don't understand why they are displaying as small to you (i.e. without Photon).

If you want to see what non-logged in users see, you need to do things like:
    (1) clear down W3 Total Cache or equivalent (if you use it)
    (2) view your site in a separate browser

Right now, I'm seeing the 150x150 versions (see screenshot) which is being resized by Photon as per Settings -> Media.

I actually did take a look initially ... but the links provided were getting me all confused, e.g. this link here wasn't going to where I think the OP had intended.

Then I saw that you (the Moodster) took on the task of trying to solve the problem ... so I thought I'd leave it in your capable 🙂

I'm still a bit fuzzy on the issue ... but I'm also interested 🙂

The thing is ... on my 23-inch monitor, I see no issues between carousel version and direct version.

Is possible to take a screenshot of an image that is causing the carousel vs non-carousel conflict?

    Hello

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this. It has taken some time to resolve, but I think the issue was a combination of two things, Photon does play it up, but I also think it was a problem with the images Victor (the photographer) sent me, because images from other photographers are fine.

Victor (the photographer) now sends me "WEB" images (I don't know what changes he has made), but they seem to work fine.

Again, many thanks for everyone's help on this. 🙂
