Yes. I agree. Changing the size of the ads is a good thought. It is becoming the main focus..I was thinking about that.... Will make changes.

I will probably try the longer route...since even if I install a child theme, it will look like the theme demo, not how I would like i to look...I would like to be able to style more sites in the future if I can...
If however I struggle....then there is always the child theme to go for or of course professional help...
firebug appears to good since I can use the split screen and see the changes I have made.really appreciate your feedback.

I made modifications to the menu, widgets etc. finally i tried to change the cocolur scheme, thats when it all collapsed. do u still feel it has comething to do with wrock metro? thanks so much for your responses.
