I bought the genesis framework with the sample theme yesterday. When I tried to add the code for colour and styling, my blog went completely offline. It is not showing up in google or any search results. I am unable to access it even thro wordpress. please help me get my blog back. With such a well known framework and being a paid one too I would have liked some warning to stop me from changing the code. the code was provided in the beginners tutorial.

You need to go to your hosting account, file manager, theme folders and upload your theme manually to restore the site (that is, if that's the issue). As with any theme you get from anywhere - if you decide to modify the files - you basically are taking a risk.

August 2, 2014 at 6:17 am #116660DTHkellyMemberAre you familiar with the phrase "White Screen of Death?" That is what happened - a php conflict taking down you site, front end and back end.
Forum search:
http://www.studiopress.community/topic/white-screen-of-death-2/Have you submitted a help ticket to StudioPress?
What code did you use?
If you included `<?php
//* Do NOT include the opening php tag` from a code snippet like this one:
https://gist.githubusercontent.com/studiopress/5706731/raw/featured-images.phpThat will cause WSOD.
August 2, 2014 at 6:41 am #116665easybitesonlineMemberthis is the beginners tutorial I followed http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/color-style-options/
the theme is the sample theme from genesis
thank youAugust 2, 2014 at 6:43 am #116666easybitesonlineMemberI have submitted a help ticket to studiopress.
the code I used
add_theme_support( 'genesis-style-selector', array(
'theme-blue' => __( 'Blue', 'themename' ),
'theme-green' => __( 'Green', 'themename' ),
'theme-orange' => __( 'Orange', 'themename' ),
'theme-red' => __( 'Red', 'themename' )
) );
did not use the opening tag
yes it is the WSODAugust 2, 2014 at 6:55 am #116667AnitaKeymasterAgain, if you go to your File Manager on your hosting account, you can copy your functions.php file back over and the site will come back on. You did copy that code into the function.php and not some other file, correct?

August 2, 2014 at 7:13 am #116670easybitesonlineMemberThanks again. I am trying to work on your suggestion. Yes I copied the code onto theme function php file
August 2, 2014 at 8:25 am #116676easybitesonlineMembermy host team tried to restore it but have been unsuccessful. he says the core wp files are bad. why should such a thing happen just because I installed genesis framework and theme??
August 2, 2014 at 8:35 am #116677AnitaKeymasterWho is your host? The framework and theme wouldn't cause a CORE issue. Do you have FTP access to your site or hosting files?

August 2, 2014 at 8:38 am #116678AnitaKeymasterI see the cached version of the site in Google. You are using some modified version of the Metro Theme - http://www.wrock.org/wrock-metro/. You should probably contact the theme developer over there regarding this as it isn't a Studiopress theme.

August 2, 2014 at 8:39 am #116679easybitesonlineMemberbluehost.
I can access those via bluehost login. but apprehensive about trying anything myself...he tried restoring everything. did not work...now I am awaiting communication from the higher level teamAugust 2, 2014 at 8:44 am #116680easybitesonlineMemberyesterday I bought the genesis framework and installed it. as also the sample theme. I made modifications to the menu, widgets etc. finally i tried to change the cocolur scheme, thats when it all collapsed. do u still feel it has comething to do with wrock metro? thanks so much for your responses. I feel supported
August 2, 2014 at 8:46 am #116681easybitesonlineMemberwow i can access the older version now!!!
August 2, 2014 at 8:47 am #116682AnitaKeymasterDid you activate the Sample? Were you working with the Sample theme and Sample functions.php when you added the code? Or did you modify the Wrock theme? What exact file in what theme were you modifying?

August 2, 2014 at 8:47 am #116684easybitesonlineMemberbut not any of the widgets

August 2, 2014 at 8:49 am #116686easybitesonlineMemberyes the sample theme. that was where i was trying to add the codes
August 2, 2014 at 8:57 am #116690AnitaKeymasterI would remove the Wrock file all together and only use the Genesis Framework and the Sample. The other file could be causing your problem.

August 2, 2014 at 9:03 am #116691easybitesonlineMemberok thank you I will do. Can't thank you enough for your help and suggestions. I began to feel there might be a solution as soon as I heard from yourself ; also of course the other comments helped to realise what the problem was. I
so can i use the genesis framework again with the sample theme? I will not try to change the code. I will only add the google analytics at settings page....once I relax a bit...:)August 2, 2014 at 9:38 am #116692DTHkellyMemberTwenty Twelve!
Adding PHP snippets is always a risk. But you can do it one snippet at a time using a free plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/code-snippets/
By activating each php snippet one by one, you'll know if any cause WSOD.Also, if a snippet causes WSOD, you can go in via FTP and rename the code snippets plugin (to "disable" it). After that, your site should be back up front end and back end.
Here's an example of how to use Code Snippets plugin:
