When you say you can't access your dashboard what do you mean? Credentials have change or it is non-functional? Honestly I think your best bet is to engage someone like sucuri or go with bluehost.
You can try to clean it yourself with shell access (if BH will grant it to you) or FTP; however, you can never be sure you got it all. Better to have the experts take a look if the site means anything at all to you.
coralseaitMemberHow proficient are you with command line, wp, etc? I'd suggest somebody like https://sucuri.net/ although if Bluehost aren't going to give you much access I doubt they will give them. There's other vendors as well, but they should be able to tell you what the compromise is and how it occurred.
coralseaitMemberMore than likely the compromise was due to an out of date wp core or plugin and not Genesis.
Once you are back up, invest in some sort of auto / periodic backup solution that doesn't rely on your host. We're partial to UpdraftPlus but there's others as well. For security, we're partial to iThemes as it plays nice with nginx.
coralseaitMemberYeah, it is a simple thing what you are asking for - however; in WP land and if you are wanting to run your own hosting / infrastructure it is probably best to stick with Linux. The reason here is that by far, a huge margin, most sites are on Linux and Apache (or Nginx) so your base of support information and knowledge to draw from is much larger.
Being on Azure for hosted infrastructure means you are very limited in the amount of resources available to draw upon. If this is for your own needs, or you wish to try out and learn Azure then by all means work through it. However, if you plan to host more than a few sites or client sites you'll be better served either by going with managed hosting or biting the bullet and learning Linux.
That's not to say you can't run Apache etc on MS platforms; but your largest base by far is Linux.
coralseaitMemberAre you wanting to admin your own WP servers? If so, VPS on RamNode, Digital Ocean or Linode will be cheaper in the long run if you can handle Linux. You'll then need to decide between LAMP or LEMP.
Honestly, I'd advise if you plan to run your own infrastructure to seriously consider ditching Azure for now and looking at Linux based VPS services because the vast amount of documentation and support out there to learn from is based on LAMP and then LEMP. Even AWS/EC2 is an option for LAMP/LEMP but it is more costly than the VPS providers I mentioned.
Disclosure, we run our own VPSs on various solutions using LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySql and PHP). We've found Nginx to be MUCH more peformant and efficient than Apache, meaning we don't have to spec larger VMs. With LEMP your VM resources go much further. Happy to have a discussion on how you can utilise LEMP if you so desire.
If you want to stay on the MS Platform be warned that you are going to have more hurdles and digging to do to host WP infrastructure and likely pay higher cost pound for pound so to speak.
coralseaitMemberWhat sort of trouble are you having?
Most of us are probably running on Linux Apache or Nginx; if this is IIS and MS Sql server I'd image there's going to be a lot of specific issues to that. We can probably help some, but you'd prob be best running on the LAMP or LEMP stacks as far as having the most 'supported' platform for your searching for help via google needs.
coralseaitMemberChange the CSS margin value to 0px auto on the #CDSWIDCOE
#CDSWIDCOE { margin: 0px 10px 10px 10px; }
becomes:
#CDSWIDCOE { margin: 0px auto; }
You may need to add a block to your child theme style.css, somewhere right before your media queries for that; as it looks like an external sheet. Finally, it may have to have important. If adding:
#CDSWIDCOE { margin: 0px auto; }
Somewhere near the end of style.css, before media queries, doesn't do it, try:
#CDSWIDCOE { margin: 0px auto !important; }
coralseaitMemberBasically follow method B code in here, but make your own class / classes and apply the styles to that - note below is for an avatar for author but the idea is the same for icon etc for whatever classes you add and style.

coralseaitMemberThanks for the heads up; I had a really odd one too on Melbourne IT's new Cloud Hosting infrastructure where their vs of lightspeed and mysql database connectivity we're old. Melb IT's solution seems to force people to a 3.8.1 version of WordPress. WP would complete an upgrade to latest, but Updraft Always failed in the restore regardless.
After digging and digging, the core team change db access methodologies after 3.9 depending on PHP level and UpdraftPlus follows what it was told using the appropriate api. Now I know why Melb IT's template only allowed 3.8.1; their mysql connectivity is out of date and they use a massive unified DB.
The end result was somewhat similar to you, in that on the new Melb IT WP Install; UD was able to drop tables, etc. However, it couldn't create new tables due strange permissions or disconnect between mysql / mysqli - this is from the unified db and not have certain permissions but is masked by the older connectivity.
A possible solution was to keep PHP below 5.5 as the WP Core checks for php level and falls back to the old way which was compatible with Melb IT's mysqli version. Or, there's a slightly esoteric switch WP_USE_EXT_MYSQL via define(‘WP_USE_EXT_MYSQL’, true); in wp-config which forces WP to fall back; this was only needed long enough for UD to restore and presto, latest, PHP, latest WP and complete restore.
Something to keep in mind if you ever get on a host that uses something other than apache / nginx and doesn't update their mysql connectivity libraries (though I suspect it would have occurred with other httpd's)
coralseaitMemberJuly 28, 2015 at 7:10 am in reply to: WP plugin to remove virus or malware from website database? #160729coralseaitMemberThere are plugins to do this, but I'd suggest you follow up with a removal service or clean install and content re-population. You can never really be sure once you are compromised and if the search engines find you to be serving malware you'll be delisted.
Best to bite the bullet and pay for proper removal if the site is important at all.
Then, make sure you institute a good backup solution so that you can restore to known good state, we use UpdraftPlus as it auto backs up for all updates, which means no fear in theme, plugin and core updates and we take our backups to multiple cloud partners with encryption and versioning / version locking (protects you against OAuth / Secret Key compromise). Finally, lock down your security and use 2-factor.
coralseaitMemberYeah, I've posted about tick versus back tick / etc on here before. For some reason a lot of discussion software mangles that and people just need to be aware cutting and pasting from the internet can be dangerous depending on character set, etc.
coralseaitMemberDo you have an archive-portfolio.php that handles the display of that CPT?
If so, you'll need to do a custom loop and add some logic to grab the tax of posts in the loop, when tax change display the output. There's various ways of doing that ... if you don't have an archive template you'll probably need one, although there's some things you can do in functions.php - It'll help us to know how you're doing the display of that archive now to steer you.
Cheers!
coralseaitMemberYou are probably already in php mode so need for the extra tags. So change it to:
if (is_category( ‘sophs’ )) { echo do_shortcode(“[metaslider id=5769]”); }
July 23, 2015 at 8:32 pm in reply to: "important"Need Solution For Category Queries and Editing #160256coralseaitMemberYou basically want this http://www.billerickson.net/customize-the-wordpress-query/ or this http://mygenesisthemes.com/genesis-display-posts-one-category-home-page/ -- in your case is_main and is_home using
$query->set( 'cat', '21' );
Where cat is the category you wish to only include.
coralseaitMemberJust to seek some clarification, you don't want the actual video embed on the homepage but a thumbnail which links to a post or cpt with the video embed there?
I ask because direct video embed esp on homepage can have a very negative impact on performance of the site and therefore seo.
There are plugins you can use which can take a thumbnail from a video and set featured image of post etc, and you can do it in code as well -- what you ask is quite straight forward.
coralseaitMembercoralseaitMemberThose plugins will add database entries in different formats / different styles or CPTs. What Cart66 adds to the database won't be supported or seen by Woo unless you do export and import. Just activating different eCommerce plugins doesn't mean they'll see each others' data.
Your column shortcode appearing in your output means the plugin or code which handles it is no longer active. If you truly are on a Genesis Theme now, then Genesis Easy Columns is probably the best / quickest way to get there; but you are going to have to update your content to reflect the Genesis Easy Columns shortcodes, not any others.
You may wish to engage a developer or consultant to re-implement WooCommerce if you've decided to switch to that; because we can't help much without seeing your data and understanding the scope of your products, categories, etc and how you implemented with Cart66 vs you intend to do Woo.
coralseaitMemberTry saving your permalinks after you've created a post in the various categories.
Your menu links probably aren't to the category archives, but to help us, give us the url(s) you are 404'ing on.
