Would good old custom post types with category and tags help? Or is the need for physical folders on the file system as well?
I've really tried to stay away from NG because of all the issues so I'm basically a non-user, just really have messed with it so to speak.
coralseaitMemberTracy,
For your php.ini issue make sure you've named it properly and located it at the site's root. It may need to be named php5.ini instead of php.ini http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5647/why-isnt-my-phpini-file-taking-effect
Just be careful with using / tweaking php.ini files though.
If you'd like to revert to the built in facilities this plugin makes setting your custom image sizes up a snap and the photographer will only have to upload then and select the size(s) from the add media drop down.

coralseaitMemberI've been experimenting with Soliloquy Slider as a gallery tool because I have the lifetime dev license and it has a bunch of great add ons (crop, light box, carousel, thumbnails ) that come with dev license.
I just started this afternoon on a test site, so no concrete results yet, but the developer is very supportive and I think it may be a great option.
if you already own it maybe give it a shot.
coralseaitMemberGenesis is fantastic, nothing stops you from using as much or as little of the framework as you like. Take for example the landing page templates; they are as bare minimum as you like.
You can even use bootstrap with Genesis which works well, for example http://devburner.net/howto-the-quick-way-to-use-twitter-bootstrap-with-genesis/
I haven't messed with multi site much, but I've found managing multiple different installs to be very nice with WP Remote. It is a nice compromise in that I can truly keep client installs separate but also lessen the management burden and overhead. https://wpremote.com there are other management tools as well, but because I use UpdraftPlus Pro for backups, I don't need the extra features of the other management helpers.
Finally, I really like the Genesis community so it all adds up to a winning set of solutions for me based on the framework.
coralseaitMemberHello,
Thanks for letting me know! Which OS and version of FF? It tested fine on Win 7 / 8 !
Cheers!
coralseaitMemberCheers for that!
it certainly is a small world. Spent a large part of my childhood in Chula Vista, learned to sail small boats at summer ventures program there when school was out in the summers.
Of course then we moved to a landlocked part of the US where I promptly forgot much of it until moving to Australia and meeting the friends who run the site; I even crewed a bit for 'skipper' on MV Galaxy I up here in Port Douglas prior to their grand adventure.
I'd say if you still have the bug go for it; they are loving life and the kids are doing great! can always do a big trip over here and sail the Aussie coasts 🙂
coralseaitMembercoralseaitMemberHello,
is_single() must not be returning true. You can display what it is returning and go from there.
Cheers!
coralseaitMemberHello Lars,
Make sure you are setting your slider container (or parent conatiners / divs) to width 100% in the CSS
coralseaitMemberSummer,
I love Simple Share Button Adder it is a great plugin and seemed to have much less impact on my sites than most others.
coralseaitMemberI really like bootstrap with Genesis. I haven't tried that table plugin so I'll have to compare.
I also tend to use Better WP Security and BulletProof security. I use Better WP to change Admin ID and table prefix if need be and the bad / junk bot blocking and then add the .htaccess tweaks from it to BulletProof's custom section then remove Better WP Security (unless I'm using the 404 banning).
coralseaitMemberHow tuned are you on your regular W3 Total Cache?
I don't have Pro, but I have recently purchased a self managed VPS and using Nginx with PHP-FPM and it runs circles around Apache. I haven't even tested W3TC on it yet. Nor have I tuned nginx or php-fpm.
Anyway, if you are on a managed VPS maybe you can ask about switching to nginx as combined with W3TC and tuned right it should run very well. I'm finding the LEMP stack to be very efficient compared to LAMP, even a default config vs very tuned.
coralseaitMemberWow, you've been a busy bee!!! Fantastic!
Maybe launch without reviews if it really is that close and then either add it back in or don't worry about?
Thanks for taking that on!
coralseaitMemberWhilst I'm new to the community and Genesis I'll say I'm very happy with how much value I derive out of the Framework and all of the themes I purchased in the package. My general impression is that Studiopress has been flat out on releasing 2.0 and back updating themes so some of the community attention may have slipped.
I'm going to keep the faith and keep watching this space so to speak. Perhaps there's things in the works we don't know about or this is a change for good; I don't know.
I do feel for the developers who were listed and no longer; I sure wouldn't have found Wes' / Appfinite's Optimal and Legacy were they not listed on the prior site, as I'm so new to the community and not up on where to search for things and whatnot.
I guess as long as the community stays strong and helps each other by 'keeping it out there' that there are other child themes and developers all is good. I will say though, I certainly like the idea of an authoritative single listing of all Genesis Themes.
Cheers!
coralseaitMemberIndeed, I already owned Optimal and was looking to pick up Legacy for a project and that's what prompted my initial question - I guess we'll have to go to the individual dev's sites; I did like the convenience of the market place as far as browsing for themes.
coralseaitMemberYeah, I noticed that. Seems some of them are, but for example I didn't see Legacy. Perhaps we'll get some clarification. I'm really liking the new site, just have to dig some more!
September 16, 2013 at 10:17 pm in reply to: Minimum Pro – How can I control the background image re-sizing #62943coralseaitMemberI actually had tried Sridhar's wonderful tutorial which worked a charm, but I still had cropping issues on the images at certain sizes. Alas my photographer was very adamant about that not happening at all.
I probably missed something in the CSS or perhaps I should try the soliloquy slider.
As a note, I've taken down the test install in my OP as it was no longer appropriate for my scenario. When I get a chance I'll try with soliloquy and/or the CSS.
Cheers Guys, you're awesome!
September 14, 2013 at 5:13 pm in reply to: Minimum Pro – How can I control the background image re-sizing #62584coralseaitMemberAwesome, congrats!
Do you mind sharing your mods? I'd like to throw up a test install and see if I can move to M Pro if possible!
Cheers!
September 14, 2013 at 4:45 pm in reply to: Minimum Pro – How can I control the background image re-sizing #62580coralseaitMemberFor this scenario I'm sticking with Minimum 2.0 because it is absolutely critical the images don't adjust in unpredictable ways. Being a photographer, he needs his compositions to be assured.
Also I'm not the greatest with CSS; I'm more of a back end infrastructure DB / code type so I'm sure there's CSS magic that could help but it escapes my grasp ... right now. I'm brushing up the CSS skill set and improving it, but for now it is better I stick with 2.0 as it better suites our needs.
I can't wait for more pro vs / HTML 5 theme updates!
September 14, 2013 at 3:14 pm in reply to: Minimum Pro – How can I control the background image re-sizing #62575coralseaitMemberIt is a tough nut to crack that's for sure. It is a fantastic theme, and really viable for many uses. I don't want to seem like I'm dogging on it too much. For my specific use right now, it just doesn't work. I trust they'll give us a fix in due course.
