SiteGround installs their own cacheing plugin on all sites. If you're using them as your hosting provider, you'll see a cache link at the top of the WordPress dashboard. Click it and you're clear the cache. When I do that, I never have to refresh the browser.

This has been an ongoing issue with SiteGround. I didn't realize it when I opened this thread over a year ago. They're an excellent hosting company, but if changes aren't showing up, you do need to click that 'clear cache' link.

Ha, some nice lessons going on here. :o)

I uploaded a 500x500px moose to the library. Then I added him to the Yoast SEO social tab, and a monster sized moose showed up, full width, above the post title and excerpt. I wanted a teeny moose to the left of the shared stuff.

It was stuck and wouldn't go away. So I removed the image from Yoast. Then I resized the moose to 245x245px and tried again, and the monster moose persisted.

So once again I removed it from Yoast. Then I realized, I'll bet it's a Facebook cache thing like what was happening yesterday. So I followed your debugger link and tried refreshing the scrape (weird word). I did it so many times I got a warning from Facebook.

I was still seeing the monster moose. Then I realized, I still had your function in place. It must be working, but when you resize an image from within WordPress's media dash, it gives you a new file name. (I'll resize in my computer and re-upload later). When I updated the path in your function and scraped again, the bitty moose showed up.

So your function is working for Facebook, not for Pinterest.

I added the function and a fallback image, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm not sure how to do it, but maybe I need to clear a cache? I did for my site, but the plugin developer did it for my Facebook cache and got the share button working.

Is this the path: wp-content/uploads/2? So change that to wherever I'd upload a fallback image?

It's the og stuff and something else I can't recall that confused me, and that's why I pulled down the plugin I created for my website.

That'd be awesome if I can get Pinterest to grab the moose image in the footer like Facebook is now doing and use that as a fallback image.

I have the Yoast plugin installed, but I haven't spent any time learning about it. Thanks so much! :o)

The developer of the plugin you recommended took a look at my Facebook share button and used the same debugging tool you linked to. She noticed it was caching an old error message. When she cleared it for me, the button now grabs the moose image from the footer, the post title and an excerpt. I'm so happy it's fixed.

Pinterest, though, throws an error message at anyone who tries to share a blog post that doesn't contain an image. She said this is on their side of things and I would need to bring this to their attention. Sometimes I'll have drawings or photos in a post, but not always. If someone tries to share a blog post that doesn't include an image, they should be shown a polite message that says, "Sorry, but shared content must include an image," so folks aren't confused.

Now, I'm off to explore Yoast!

I haven't been able to find any solution to the Ubuntu font not loading. It doesn't always happen, but if you refresh enough, it will.

In case anyone sees this, I removed Google Fonts from my stylesheet and enqueued them in my functions file. My site is really lightweight, but I noticed a difference in the loading time of the fonts. It was a nice surprise. I didn't think I'd notice a difference.

About Lora and italics, I'm not sure it's not working. If I click the italics button when creating a blog post, shouldn't that text display as italics according to the body font? If the font for body is set to Lora, and I've added both Lora400 and Loraitalic, wouldn't it know to use Loraitalic? Or is there something else I need to do?

carasmo, I just finished creating social share icons with the plugin you recommended. She did a great job with her plugin; it's really streamlined and easy to work with.

Which five social share icons do you feel are most used by site visitors?

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest for photos (but my site only rarely will have images in posts) ... what else would you recommend?

Wow, truly stellar website. Gorgeous design, so tasteful and elegant. I'm impressed!

I'll definitely take a look at this plugin. Originally, at the bottom of my post, I had "Share this Nature Notes essay on" and a Facebook and Twitter icon I created myself. But the Facebook link stopped working, and the workaround wasn't straight forward.

That'd be great if I can get this plugin to work for me.

Huh, I assumed for some reason that /archive is an existing page on my website, without having to create it.

I know previous themes I've used had /archive as a ready-to-go page. That must be where I'm getting this from. Thanks for setting me straight. There isn't an actual error, then. It's just a matter of a page that wasn't hanging out in the wings and waiting to be used, as I thought it was.

An update . . .

It just happened again, and my internet is loading just fine. All titles, the entry date, nav links, widget titles, etc. are using Ubuntu, but when I refreshed the page, it didn't load that font and instead reverted to a generic serif.

I have no clue how to figure out why this is happening.

It occurred to me ...

As soon as I write my second post, both pages will show in the numeric pagination. I only display one post per page.

So no need to write a function, because in a few days I'll have more content.

Okay, Brad, if you're reading this, once again thanks for your guidance. You pointed me toward the post.php file for the last task I needed to tackle, and sure enough that's where the code is located for this one.

Do NOT do this directly in your core file as I did. When I have time, I'm going to figure out how to write a function for this and add it to my child theme. I marked my changes with a commented out XXX so I can easily find them and then downloaded a copy of the file in case an update wipes it out.

So here's the snippet you're looking for. No CSS adjustments needed.

I simply changed the 1 to 0 in the below code and it works.

At the bottom of every blog post, a question is asked to stimulate discussion. It displays just below a category prompt. The two centered lines of text are set apart from the blog with some styling.

I could have used simple HTML within each post, but I'd much prefer using fields. It saves me the hassle of HTML typos or copying and pasting the basic format from other posts and then splicing in the URL for the link.

And it needs to appear below the category prompt. I couldn't figure out how to do that without a function.

Also, I'm hoping to do something more with this link someday, and it requires custom fields.

And now we have success. The dang thing is working. Two fields, one for the question and the other for the link. It outputs the question as a link. Awesomeness personified! I've spent two days on this darn thing.

Okay, so this is what I call a double dummy.

1) All code, beginning with this function, was grayed out and I assumed it was because of an error within my function. Kind of yes, but also not really.

This is what preceded the code: /* THE QUESTION FUNCTION

It should have been a double forward slash. I commented out half of my website. :o)

2) The second dummy was capitalization. I love clean and tidy grammar, so when I created the key, I entered it like this: Question

But in the function I wrote it all in lower case letters. Function not happy.

Now I'm going to go back and fiddle with the link and see if I can get it working. I didn't realize I can put html inside a custom field box. But it will be less of a hassle if I can just create another key with the link as the value. I'll update the other forums where I posed this question.

I'm not sure what you mean by swapping out the hook and key.

Here's what I did per your tutorial. I removed the link and will deal with that another time. This isn't working.
