Now that my website MooseNotes.com has launched, I'm trying to tackle my list of problems I need to resolve. I don't need MooseNotes.com/archives just yet, so it was okay to go ahead and launch.

The question is, why am I getting a 404 not found message when I go to MooseNotes.com/archive? I get the same message when I got to /archives. I believe archive without the 's' is the correct page for a website's archives.

From what I recall, the archive page is pre-formatted to display archives. Even if the design hasn't been created, though, shouldn't that page still exist, instead of producing a 'not found' error message?

    Thank you.

Is "Archive" a custom post type? An "Archive" in WordPress is simply a collection of all posts from a specific category / custom post type. For example, if you have a category named "concerts", and you have 5 posts pertaining to different concerts, examplesite.com/category/concerts is the "archive" page for that category. The default file template is named archive.php, but it isn't actually served at /archive.

Does that clear up your confusion?

Huh, I assumed for some reason that /archive is an existing page on my website, without having to create it.

I know previous themes I've used had /archive as a ready-to-go page. That must be where I'm getting this from. Thanks for setting me straight. There isn't an actual error, then. It's just a matter of a page that wasn't hanging out in the wings and waiting to be used, as I thought it was.

    Thank you!
