September 24, 2014 at 2:29 am in reply to: Shortcode widget plugin that is compatible with genesis for 2nd landing page? #125524Ben @ Inbound CreativeMember
It's pretty simple to do using the Genesis hooks, though it does require some knowledge of PHP.
Can I just double check what you want though before I write the code? (It'll take me a couple of minutes once I know what you want).
Do you mean you want the featured box to appear at the top of the category's archive page?
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberOn line 842 in your CSS file, you'll see this:
.featured-content .entry { text-align: center; }
Change that to left and that will work.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberIt's the same, but copy and paste this in to the functions file. Don't remove the spaces (that shouldn't have any impact, but just to make sure).
remove_action( 'genesis_site_description', 'genesis_seo_site_description' );
If that doesn't work, can you post your whole functions.php file and I'll see if there is something else causing a conflict.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberAs you've probably noticed, the default WP importer/exporter isn't brilliant.
If you have access to the files stored on your server, you can download the uploads file and then upload it to your new server.
Alternatively, you could pay for BackupBuddy (http://ithemes.com/purchase/backupbuddy/) or WP Migrate DB Pro (https://deliciousbrains.com/wp-migrate-db-pro/). I use the latter, but I develop two to three websites a month. Both cost money.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberBen @ Inbound CreativeMemberSorry for not getting back to you sooner. I'd finished for the day before I got a chance to reply.
On line 479, you'll find the class .header-full-width .site-container, .site-container. Change the padding top to 31px. That should make the navigation bar appear inline with the header with no overlap.
As for the logo – which I imagine you'll also want to fix:
On line 972, you'll find the class .header-image .site-title a.
Change the min-height to 230px from 60px. That'll show the whole image.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberSorry, for some reason the forum posted this reply to your post :s. It should have appeared in another post which was asking for some pretty heavy customisation. Weird.
Anyway, yes, your need is pretty simple.
Follow the instructions in here.
http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/setup-custom-header/
It should add an option to your 'Appearance' menu of 'Header'.
An inch and a half will be about 150px to 200px. Set that as your height value.
The width is 1140px.
Hope that helps and sorry for the confusion.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberThis is how it looks for me.
Do you mean the logo, rather than the 'header image'?
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberIf you remove the genesis responsive viewport, that should stop the site from resizing. It'll mean it won't be responsive and might be hard to read on some devices, but it should solve the issue you're currently dealing with.
And thanks!
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberThe best way to resolve the issue is to make the rest of the site responsive.
Otherwise, you'd need to look into removing the viewport size line in the functions.php file.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberTo be honest, it I don't have that much familiarity with other job plugins. WP Job Board would definitely fit your client's needs though.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberResponsive design.
It's a bad idea to serve up seperate websites to customers. Also, Google doesn't like it, meaning you can hurt your SEO ranking by serving up a mobile only website.
All of StudioPress' websites are designed with responsive design in mind.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberThanks. It's undergoing a redesign at the moment.
As for the plugin, this is the site I'm working on. I've customised it heavily, including custom place holders, heavy widget styling etc. I'm an experienced web designer, so it's not too difficult for me. It might take a little more time, but it's not difficult.

The best piece of advice I can give is download Carrie Dils' Genesis Style Trump plugin. It's pretty easy to change stuff then.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberBen @ Inbound CreativeMemberOkay, it's not a perfect fix, but seeing as this is a holding page, it won't make a massive difference.
On line 1575, you'll see the css that controls the media queiries for the column classes. That's what's causing your problem.
You can either comment it out using /* and */ or delete everything between lines 1577 and 1590. Changing width to auto doesn't work; it just makes them bunch up.
That should solve your problem.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberIf you try to load several different fonts and font-weights, then yes, it can have an impact. However, ET Line Fonts shouldn't be an issue.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberIt might be possible, but I've never seen it done.
I imagine it would be a case of adding some pretty heavy php into the functions file.
September 22, 2014 at 3:05 am in reply to: Change a CSS class if user logged in vs logged out #125277Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberI've never tried this, so it might not work.
However, when you're logged in, WordPress itself adds a page class of logged-in.
Try this:
.logged-in .classname { background-color: #fff; color: #000; }
Change .classname to whatever your class name is. You might also need to add a 'a' selector after the class name, but you shouldn't need it.
The alternative is to use the same class name structure, but then use 'display: none;' instead of the background color and color.
Let me know if that works.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberI would agree that AgentPress would be the best theme to start off with. You might need to change some of the custom post type names, but it'll serve your need with the least fuss.
Ben @ Inbound CreativeMemberYou need to edit the css controlling how the wp listings widget displays.
It's a lot of work. If you want to do it yourself, download Carrie Dil's amazing Genesis Style Trump plugin first.
Then, using the Inspect Element tool on Firefox or Chrome, inspect the search bars to find out what the class controlling the look and style of the search bars is.
If that went over your head, then drop Sridhar Katakam a line at http://genesiscustomizations.com/. My best estimate is it would take about an hour (two max) to get the code looking the same as how Lohr RE have got theirs (btw, that's how long I reckon it would take me – Sridhar might say it might take him longer, it might take him less time). It's not a free service, but for $75-$150, it'll save you several days trying to work out how to make the various changes if you don't know what you're doing.
