Visual composer is not a StudioPress product, but they do have their own support which is quite good.

Genesis is not providing that kind of shortcode. There have lot of shortcode plugin. You can try them. I think that You can try Visual Composer Editor plugin. This is very nice and very user friendly.

I've been playing around with the Visual Composer demo, which is pretty cool, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to float elements.

I'm getting ready to make the jump to Genesis with a StudioPress child template and I need a little help.

The first website I intend to use with the new Genesis framework will be my own. As the owner of small design company, I really like some of the slick portfolio sections I've seen in some of the more advanced templates at ThemeForest—specifically the visual portfolio with the blocks that move around based on which option you select. Plus, I want to insert a Google map into my site and make other tweaks.

I noticed that none of the StudioPress child templates have the first feature I want, and few have the second. Are these things that can be added with plugins? If so, where do I find these?

And secondly, I have a basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and a little PHP, but I am by no means a coder. With that being the case, and as a newbie to the WordPress platform, do you recommend pairing Genesis with Visual Composer, Dynamik, Genesis Extender, or something else?

Hi @Tom, thank you for another suggestion. After playing with it for a few minutes I don't really see a use for it. IMO all it does is adding flat color background in a boxed section that it's width is limited by the page's content wrap width. You can do exactly the same, plus you can add gradient color backgrounds with just a couple lines of css...

I think that there are no free plugins out there to get the full browser's width and so far I've only found the ultimate addons for visual composer that can do it. Everything else I've seen is some customized version of that addon that is included with quite a few themes.

Depending on what you're trying to do you may have to add some styling, which you might describe as 'code'. There are 3rd-party page builders/composers that can help with a drag-and -drop/point&click interface.

@BobH Visual Composer does not alter any schema.org markup that is already there.

@Tom Thanks for the suggestion of SiteOrigin's Page Builder. I just gave it a quick try and it's really lite which I love along with the ability to use all your existing widgets on the page.

However it won't allow for extended row widths (see support forum under 100% full width row) which is the only reason I like VC coupled with Ultimate VC add-ons for building an individual page.

Does Visual Composer play nice with schema.org?

Hi Lynne,

I thought that Symple Shortcodes besides being used by itself, is a free add-on for the Visual Composer. Symple Shortcodes just adds elements to a page like any other VC add-on does, it doesn't actually build pages like VC does, so it's not a replacement.

wpspeak: on some of my posts, I don't have a normal 'post' area, just the visual composer--no other options. Any thoughts on that? Should I just disable visual composer? I don't think I need it now.

Tom: Thanks for the heads up. I had to format it that way for my old site. Yet another reason to say 'good riddance' to that one. I didn't realize it affects SEO. Should be all set now.

Hi Amy Jo,

I noticed that all of your pages, recipes and posts are composed almost entirely of headings (H1, H2, H3 etc.) This is really visually jarring as your theme converts all headline text to uppercase. Even some of your page content has been created in capitals. (Yes, it looks like every sentence is being shouted at the reader :/ ) It's not going to help your SEO, and will likely harm your SEO, when almost everything on the page is a heading and very little is presented as content.

It may be Visual Composer/a setting, or something else, but it's something you might look into.

Welcome to the Genesis Community.

The purpose of using visual composer is to help you easily setup a custom layout for any of your page without any coding knowledge. As far as I know, the plugin works on pretty much any WP theme. You may keep using it even after you've switched to Genesis. Depending on the layout you've built using the plugin, you may want to set the layout to 'full width layout" for that page.

Hi There, I just switched to the foodie theme {+ first-time genesis user} and don't have any text area on my pages. I was using visual composer with my previous theme, but do I still need it? Is there any chance it will slow load times or unnecessary weight? What is your suggestion for light + functional?

I know load time is important to rankings and visitors staying on the website. The thing I love about Genesis is it's ability to quickly load. Conversely, I see how powerful tools like Visual Composer can assist in quick page building. How do programs like Visual Composer compare to regular code, like Genesis, in their ability to quickly load? Thanks!

I installed a plugin called "Visual Composer" then you can create your home page as a page with as many areas as you want and put it in via "Appearance" then "Customize" then "Static Front Page"

I have been using VC for many other pages in the site also. You can check it out at http://test.fepaymentpros.com
