In reply to: Share-A-Sale CSS Issue
AnitaKeymasterThank you Susan. I fixed those, but it's still not working. It is inheriting the Agency themes CSS. How can I turn the inheritance part off so it will read the CSS from the Share-A-Sale?

Susan NelsonParticipantYou've got some errors that may be causing the problem. For example, COLOR: 0054EE; needs to have a # symbol in front of the hex code. Also, you have a stray quotation mark here: font-family: “Arial; .

AnitaKeymasterThe code is coming from Share-A-Sale and does not include the CSS you suggested - those are in the main child theme. I don't want to modify the child theme - just the contents of the code submitted by Share-A-Sale.

JeffreyMemberDon't know how else to explain it. The DCG plugin doesn't come with any a css file but obviously uses css for styling. I want to change that styling but can't figure out how to over ride the default css. Make sense?
November 19, 2012 at 4:09 am #649jordyParticipantMy slideshow also seems rather slow, i thought it was just me because of my budget hosting and bad connection speed.
Would love too hear any solution to this asswell.I do have a solution for you with the thumbnails on IE, i had the same problem on IE8.
The default Genesis css has this in it :
img {
height: auto;
max-width: 100%;
}So this is applyd too evrey image on your website, unfortantly the NGG thumbnails bugs in IE8 because of this.
I added this too my css and got it fixed it..ngg-gallery-thumbnail-box img {
max-width: none;
}You should place this underneath the default img tag so it wont get overruled.

SoZoMemberThere are a ton of Firebug tutorials available but basically all you need to do is run up the cascade of divs that you see over on the left and just use the name of the div in your selector as you normally would to create a more specific rule. What you see appearing over on the right in the CSS pane are the style rules associated with or effecting the div that you have highlighted on the left.

apt513MemberI have no idea how to figure out which selector I need to choose, firebug or not. (let alone create a rule to do what I want to do)
The left side is mostly div id and the right side is mostly css.
How do you use firebug to find out which selector you need?

SoZoMemberYes. Refer to this for a run down on CSS syntax.

November 18, 2012 at 6:44 pm #629In reply to: add a class to the sidebar div
micharoMemberI have a few different sidebars. Some sidebars are used on many pages. In order to apply css on the sidebars, for example a background image, I want to address the specific sidebar directly. Therefore I try to add a class in the sidebar div with the name of that sidebar. I looked into genesis-structural-wraps but i think that is not the way to go.
Any help appreciated.

And_orParticipant@NicktheGeek Very surprised you abandoned Firebug... you've signature advocated that for as long as I have seen you on the 'old' forum.
I still stick to the Firefox - Firebug combo as I feel way to snug in there.. But I will definitely check Chrome again (which is open all day on the second screen anyway) While making a website I usually have Firefox, Chrome and Safari (all on windows) open with the site on it. Backend work in Firefox and the rest to see the site as a non logged in user. Whenever there is a difference in css rendering its easier to solve if you notice it when it occurs instead of hunting for it later on...
What I find very helpful is that I use 2 24" monitors of which 1 is in portrait orientation.. so 1200 x 1920px It gives such a good view of a complete website when seeing it the portrait.Now with the responsive themes mostly keep the site on iPad and Android phone as well . And lately run a Virtual Box with Windows 8 an IE 10)
Nowadays the hardware is so fast that the differences in speed between the browsers is not important anymore. (at least on my work machine)The good old Webdeveloper plugin from Chris Pendrick (FF) has a nice "view responsive layouts" button in the Resize section that comes in very handy these days..

November 18, 2012 at 12:19 pm #561In reply to: Twitter Bootstrap and Genesis?
ithacaindyMemberAnyone know of a way to create a Genesis child theme that does not scream 'Look, I'm a Genesis Child Theme,' but looks and feels like a Twitter Bootstrap application -- both in css and js? The sandbox child theme buries Bootstrap functionality so much that it is almost nonexistent. Can anyone recommend a WordPress starter theme (i.e. uses wp custom menus rather than hardcoded html in the nav) and is 100 percent Bootstrap compliant?
November 18, 2012 at 10:58 am #558In reply to: Where Are The Theme Specific Forums…
Andrea RennickMemberMost of the theme have generally the same areas of css, and all the hooks are in the same places on generally all the themes.
Also forum posts CAN be tagged. Please use those tags heavily on your posts.
And some code I have noticed people calling a "fix" when really it is custom work. Changing the theme behaviour to something else is not a fix. 😉

November 18, 2012 at 10:04 am #549In reply to: Hello everyone
nickthegeekMemberFor years I used FireFox almost exclusively. Way way back when I used Netscape, then Opera, then FireFox. If you are familiar with the evolution of browsers you should notice a trend, I have been avoiding IE from the beginning.
That said, ever since the rapid update cycle in FireFox I've not been happy with them. The updates seem to kill plugin functionality and they often go backwards. Back around version 5 or 6 FireFox supported CSS3 100%, now there are several CSS3 features such as box-sizing that are only available using the -moz- prefix again.
I finally abandoned FireFox despite my love for FireBug, which is the only thing that kept me on FireFox as long as I stayed. I use Chrome and Safari now. The built in developer tools are pretty good. Chrome is the better tool set of the two. In fact, when I am doing speed optimization, I find the tools in Chrome to be far superior to FireBug. I can find out much more on the load details with the built in tools than I could in FireBug with the ySlow extension.
I'm actually using Safari to type this, but I'm pretty back and forth with Safari and Chrome depending on what I need at a time. Chrome is open in another window.

Jon WeissMemberHey Ton,
This goes a little beyond what these forums are for - and is more along the lines of custom work. I can give you some pointers, but I don't have the time to write out all this code unfortunately.
I'd suggest maybe hiring someone to knock it out quick for you - it should only take an hour or so to complete.
But to point you in the right direction: You'll want to create a new widget area within the functions file, then call it under the nav, and above the header. Once that's done, using conditional tags you'll want to assign the images to their respected pages.
Hope that helps!
November 18, 2012 at 7:56 am #523AnitaKeymasterI have modified my CSS to include - Arial font, changed the font size from 12 to 14, added the text-transform so the names will be UPPERCASE - all using the Share-A-Sale code.
