....where users can exchange their ideas and thoughts on best uses for StudioPress Themes, quirks, gossip about themes, frameworks, how I solved a particular problem and so on and so forth?
November 16, 2012 at 3:29 am #275brother7MemberI second this sentiment. I liked getting support from the Studiopress community, as well as the staff.
November 16, 2012 at 6:46 am #278Andrea RennickMemberIf you have a technical issue with a particular theme, you go through the help desk. If it is general customization for any theme, that is what this forums is for. 🙂

If you need technical support for your theme please file a ticket. The forums are community based. Staff only monitors the forum for issues relating to the forum itself and to redirect users to where they need to go.
November 16, 2012 at 8:35 am #286ladygemMemberIt's unfortunate that StudioPress is doing a ticket system, because a lot of times it is necessary to go back and forth... This also means that people can't see others mistakes and learn from them or see others success and learn from them.
November 16, 2012 at 8:49 am #291Andrea RennickMemberThey can if it's custom code, as that will be dealt with here. 🙂

November 16, 2012 at 8:51 am #293ladygemMemberOh!! That's great news. Thank you very much.
OT. How do I create an avatar? I go to profile and there is nothing there for my to click and add my avatar. In the old 'read only' forum it was simple...now I can't find it.
November 16, 2012 at 10:03 am #320Andrea RennickMemberI see you found it. 🙂 It should pull your gravatar by default.

November 16, 2012 at 8:36 pm #393nickthegeekMemberJust to add a bit more to this. There aren't theme specific forums because that is a bit of a nightmare to navigate and maintain. It was fine when there were just a few themes, but when people have too many options it gets to be a mess.
That said, if you are talking about a specific theme just use the tags feature to tag it. Then it will be easy to find other threads that are similarly tagged. It is a much better use of tags and keeps discussions grouped into sections that make more sense overall.
November 17, 2012 at 12:14 am #401roarMemberThis feels like we will be able to get less support and help when using StudioPress themes. I feel concerned.
November 17, 2012 at 6:10 am #411Brian GardnerMember@ roar - with the new My.StudioPress member portal, you are able to fill out a help ticket and our staff will personally attend to your question. The forums here are only for general questions about WordPress and design, which might make you think that theme support is getting pushed aside.
November 17, 2012 at 9:36 am #421road2ruinMemberSo my experience today has been to ask for code help through the members portal and: GOOD NEWS get a very quick response but BAD NEWS be told that code and such were being handled over here. This will get better after the migration is complete I'm guessing but it is a little frustrating. Oh well...great looking Forum and love the Genesis thought process. Still looking for some code help though....

Basically, customization questions will be directed here. It just doesn't work to write up entire template files in the support portal. We don't have the resources to provide unlimited customizations. We would have to charge more like $1000 per theme and $30,000 for Pro Plus to even come close to being able to hire enough qualified support personal to write custom solutions for everyone. In those instances we ask you to put your question before the community. We can't guarantee the community will answer, but that is the same as what we would have done in the old forums.
November 17, 2012 at 10:06 am #428road2ruinMemberThank you for your timely and elucidating response. I get that. And much appreciated. I have always liked the community forum code exchange. I will go there as I have many times before. I had thought the Portfolio question was an "easy" fix but the more I look the more I realize i don't see it. Patience Grasshoppa is my new mantra.

November 17, 2012 at 1:22 pm #460apt513MemberIt will be hard to search for issues pertaining to the theme you are working on without theme specific forums. It will just be a cluster* of questions and answers and it will take much longer to find what we are looking for.
I start to apply a "fix" just to realize that fix for for a different theme and it will not work for me.
Different themes use different sliders, css codes, etc.
I am very,very concerned.

Thanks for that explanation. What I'm sort of hearing is that technical support is handled in the ticket system and customizations are handled here. Is that right? If it is, I'll bet I'm not alone in wondering how to determine which a particular question is? What exactly are the differences? Maybe that is spelled out somewhere and I just haven't seen it but if it is not, writing that up might help everyone?
The other thing I'm reading into your answer is that customizations are not going to be handled by SP support staff anymore but are going to be here in the community forums? I'll be the first to admit I've been really blown away by the amount of customization help given by the forum moderators in the old system. . . it seemed too good to be true. However, of course, lots of us relied upon it a great deal and are understandably stressed by the prospect of change . . . . Am I reading your answer correctly that all customization questions will now be answered only by community members and not by the forum moderators?
Thank you.
November 17, 2012 at 3:42 pm #483gpsmapperMemberSo far I'm not a fan either. I've searched the old forums dozens of times and found answers without having to bug you guys. Now it seems that there will be very limited material to peruse.
November 17, 2012 at 3:53 pm #485nickthegeekMember@cleo,
The moderators are in these forums too. Go check the Design Tips forum. Several of the mods have already posted some cool tips for users and have answered some of the user customization questions. I can't guarantee every custom request will be answered, but we aren't writing it off just changing the format a bit so we don't miss support requests.
Any new forum will need time to develop usable material. This is one of the reasons the old forums will be left open. One way you can be a "super star" in these forums would be sharing information your find helpful from the old forums. This forum is building at about the same pace as the old forums already. A few years ago you wouldn't find anything in the old forums. These will catch up and with a fresh start we have a much better foundation for building community involvement. If you check things out you will see that community members are already stepping up to help answer questions and share their own tips. This is exactly what we had hoped for.
November 17, 2012 at 3:54 pm #486nickthegeekMember@apt,
I encourage you and other users to fill in the tag with the theme they are using when asking questions.
November 18, 2012 at 10:11 am #550mromeroMemberI too am very concerned and posted it in this topic:
But Nick deleted it or is moving it to this thread right now.
Nick said:
"The theme specific forums end up adding uneeded bloat."
and then added:
"Once I post this thread I’m going to start a new thread titles “Fitness and Development” where I’m going to talk a bit about fitness and why that is important to me right now."
I suggest he add a sub forum on Yoga and another on Para Sailing which is very popular in Belize.
But to also add sub forums for each Theme sold by Genesis / Studio Press.
It is the logical thing to do and makes it easier for community building for customers to learn about how an issue specific to a Theme has been addressed by a fellow community member or by Genesis / Studio Press.
A customer from back in the day when I did not even know how to install Word Press but learned it in the original forums from the experts at Genesis / Studio Press and the community.
Now where is my signature ;o)
