Susan,
I thought so to, but when I do that, I end up with two lines of <meta name="viewport" ...>. I have a feeling that this leaves me with a <head> section that is not very correct or at least confusing.
So, I found this simple solution:
Addremove_action( 'genesis_meta', 'genesis_responsive_viewport' );
to the functions.php file of the Child Theme, and add the desired<meta name="viewport"...>
via the WP Dashboard in Genesis Theme Settings (just as you described).Toon61MemberThank you Badlywired,
I'll definitely look into that, sounds promising.
What's the difference between the masonry and isotope library?Toon61MemberDKrause,
I was wondering if you finally got it all working with Genesis and Visual Composer.
Currently, I have a similar question from one of my clients, and have looked at VC but was not able to get specific widgets in the different areas. At the moment I've created a similar design using Genesis Extender from Cobalt Apps (see: http://mgf.woohoodesign.nl).
Would you share your thoughts on using VC in combination with Genesis?December 15, 2014 at 4:11 am in reply to: How to create 'News' overview page in Executive Pro #134569Toon61MemberGenwrock,
This is exactly what I need. Thank you so much!
I also want to limit how much of the content is displayed (100 or 200 characters followed by a 'Continue reading...').December 15, 2014 at 3:09 am in reply to: How to create 'News' overview page in Executive Pro #134564Toon61MemberActually, I was already thinking in that direction (using CSS to hide things), but I think a custom archive is more the way to go and in the end more flexible.
November 1, 2014 at 11:43 am in reply to: Sixteen Nine Pro Left Navigation Menu not responsive #130100Toon61MemberHi,
I'm also very anxious to know how to solve this.
Okay, you can make the left sidebar not 'fixed' (so it scrolls along with the content part), but that screws up a lot of other things like the content flowing beneath the left sidebar (browser-window between 1280 and 1024).
I like to see a solution where the left sidebar (where the menu resides) scrolls along with the content (position: relative) but leaves the content part in the wright place instead of flowing beneath the sidebar.Any clues Jan?
Toon61MemberHi Hugh,
You've changed the behaviour of the left sidebar. It used to be fixed, meaning the content part scrolls and the menu keeps in the same place, and now it is relative which is default behaviour when you remove the 'position: fixed;' from the CSS. It can be fixed by adding a black background image to the '.site-container' of the same width as the left sidebar (240px ?) so the rest is not covered (keeping it transparent) and the background image shows through:
.site-container { background-image: url('images/background.png'); background-position-x: left; background-repeat: repeat-y; }
But may I point out another issue with your site?
When the browser-window is less then 1280px wide but more then 1024px, your content part moves down, just beneath the left sidebar. This is a result of having the left sidebar not fixed.
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for this (yet). And to be honest, I'm currently developing a website for a client with exactly this same problem.
So if anyone from Studiopress is listening: how to solve this?Nevertheless Hugh, try the background image. I think it solves your problem.
Toon61MemberHi Susan,
Sorry for not replying to my own post.
But I have solved this puzzle by my own (mainly because there was no feedback here on the forum).
I'll mark it as resolved.Toon61MemberJGentry,
The fonts are imported from Google Fonts. You probably have an entry in your CSS saying something like:
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans);
This means that all fonts are 'Open Sans'.
If you want to change that, you can do a lot of things.
One of those things is going to edit the entry for 'body' in the top of your CSS, where the fonts are declared.
Change this line:body, h1, h2, h2 a, h2 a:visited, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, select, textarea { color: #222; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.6; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: none; }
to
body, h1, h2, h2 a, h2 a:visited, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, select, textarea { color: #222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.6; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: none; }
Now you have ruled out the Open Sans font, and substituted it for Arial or Helvetica.
You could also include some special fonts by adding some '@font-face' declarations at the top of your CSS, like this:@font-face { font-family: 'My-Font'; src: url('fonts/My-Font.eot'); src: url('fonts/My-Font.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('fonts/My-Font.woff') format('woff'), url('fonts/My-Font.svg#My-Font') format('svg'); font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; }
Of course, 'My-Font' must be the name of the font you will be using. You can find a lot of open-source webfonts on FontSquirrel, or you could change the default Open Sans GoogleFont, by looking at all the available Google Fonts
If you only want to change the H1-H2-H3 fonts, you could add the following line to your CSS:H1, H2, H3 { font-family: 'My-Font'; }
I hope this answers your question.
September 2, 2014 at 4:21 am in reply to: A single Portfolio page with a Sidebar in Executive Pro #122373Toon61MemberBrad
Forget my previous reply, I was thinking in the wrong direction.
I've got it all sorted out, well, almost.
Instead of using a sidebar to show additional data form Custom Fields, I got the page setup with two columns and show the additional info in the second column.
And to be honest, I was inspired by one of your great tutorials on showing data from Custom Fields (http://wpsites.net/web-design/how-to-create-a-custom-field/).September 2, 2014 at 3:01 am in reply to: A single Portfolio page with a Sidebar in Executive Pro #122362Toon61MemberBrad,
The single cpt I use is 'single-portfolio.php' and that one already gets a custom class 'single-portfolio'.
I've made a sidebar with the GSS plugin, and named it 'portfolio-sidebar'.
Default in Executive Pro a single portfolio item is shown full width, so I deleted (commented out) this line form the singel-portfolio.php://* Force full width content layout /* add_filter( 'genesis_pre_get_option_site_layout', '__genesis_return_full_width_content' ); */
But now when I visit a single portfolio item I get two sidebars: 'The Primary Sidebar Widget Area' and my 'portfolio-sidebar' that I have placed (hooked) directly in the single-portfolio.php like this:
add_action('genesis_before_sidebar_widget_area','portfolio_sidebar'); function portfolio_sidebar() { genesis_widget_area( 'portfolio-sidebar', array( 'before' => '<div class="portfolio-sidebar widget-area">', 'after' => '</div></div>', ) ); }
This leaves two questions unanswered:
How to get rid of the default Primary Sidebar on these particular pages, but leave them on other pages, I tried this:
unregister_sidebar( 'sidebar' );
but that sidebar still shows up on every page that has a 'content-sidebar' layout, including the single portfolio.
How to populate my new 'portfolio-sidebar' with data form the Custom Fields (client details, year of production and so on).September 1, 2014 at 11:07 am in reply to: Can Genesis Slider be used to dynamically show images attached to a page or post #122232Toon61MemberReading all the good reviews about Soliloquy, I decided to buy me a Developer License (at the moment they have a 20% discount code).
And to be honest: I really like and enjoy this slider! (should have had a license before...)
And for the initial question of this forum-post:
No, Genesis Slider can't do that.
Soliloquy, on the other hand, handles this with ease, thanks to the Dynamic Add-on.Question answered.
Problem solved.September 1, 2014 at 3:05 am in reply to: Can Genesis Slider be used to dynamically show images attached to a page or post #122190Toon61MemberThanks Brad,
I've looked at Soliloquy and was somehow disappointed to find out that the dynamic I was looking for, is only availabe when you buy at least a developer licence. I'll check Easing Slider to see if that one has a nicer price-tag.
Toon61MemberHi,
Log in to my.studiopress.com (the same location where you downloaded your theme) and check under 'Code Snippets' and then 'Footer'.
There is an example of how to change the Credits text, and other things you can change in the footer.Toon61MemberHi all,
Sometimes, answers are so obvious you don't see them...
I just created title widgets above every home section, and in the WP dashboard put in a text widget that contains the title.
Again, very easy and straightforward.Toon61MemberOops, I think I didn't do a very thorough search. And I must check Sridhar's site more often.
Thanks for the links Kellylise.
I just only scanned the page, but I think this is exactly what I'm looking for.Toon61MemberOk, that worked out just fine.
But after fixing this, I saw there was an update to the Executive Pro theme, and guess what?
The mobile responsive menu was added to the theme!Toon61MemberKeith,
I always use a second CSS file for all the changes I make, especially when developing.
Most of the time I call it 'mystyles.css' and add it to the 'Header and Footer Scripts' in the Theme Settings found under 'Genesis' in your WP Dashboard. I add it to the 'wp-head()' section like this:<link rel="stylesheet" id="mystyles-css" href="http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/childtheme_name/mystyles.css?ver=1.1" type="text/css" media="all">
This CSS will be called after(!) the initial 'styles.css' so it overrules it when needed.
This way I always know which CSS declarations I've changed or added.
As a matter of fact, I also make an additional CSS for every media query I need, and strip it from the original 'styles.css'.
But that's just me ...Toon61MemberKeith
Add/change the background property in the CSS (style.css) to the '.site-header' class definition:
.site-header { background: none; }
For the first parallax image you now only have to add or change a CSS attribute: 'margin-top: 0px'. (Do this in the class '.site-inner'):
.site-inner { margin-top: 0px; }
If you only want all of this for the homepage only, make sure you add 'body.home' before you add new CSS declarations:
body.home .site-header { background: none; } body.home .site-inner { margin-top: 0px; }
When you enter another page (body.page) the previous CSS will be ignored.
Toon61MemberThanks, I'll look into that.
