Brad,
Thank you for pointing me (again) in the right direction.
After reading about the settings on the WP Codex pages, i came up with this simple solution:
add_image_size( 'singular', 650 );
I removed the Height and Crop parameters, so now all images will be resized (scaled) to a fixed width (650px in this case), no matter if they are landscape or portrait orientated.Toon61MemberBill,
I don't know why the 'default' sidebar (Primary Sidebar) won't go away (I'm having the same issue at the moment).
I added the custom sidebar in my page PHP file, like you did.
And I made a simple CSS rule like this:
body.archive aside.sidebar section.widget.featuredpost {display: none;}
This is not the most elegant way of 'deleting' a sidebar, but it works (the css depends on the widget(s) you have placed on the 'Primary Sidebar').Or have you found a better solution in the meantime.
Toon61MemberAndrea,
You are right; Child Themes do not update ... automatically.
But when Studiopress releases an update to a child theme, and you just install it, you run in all sorts of problems because the style.css will also be updated. So any changes you made are lost.
It is not uncommon to leave all default child theme files as is, and create your own additional CSS or PHP files, just to make sure that a Child Theme update doesn't ruin your edits.Toon61MemberTed,
Thanks, I'll look into that.
Toon61MemberHi Susan,
I almost forgot about this post until I received a mail from this forum.
Well, I fixend it. It took some CSS tweaking, but finally I got what I wanted.
What I was after, was showing pictures of employees. And in the end I didn't use the Portfolio Archive page, but a 'listing' of posts with a certain keyword to show.But thanks for reminding me of this post.
I think it should be closed.Toon61MemberHi Marle,
The CSS for the menu in the Executive theme is slightly different then in your example.
But I got it working!!!Thank you so much for pointing it out.
Toon61MemberMarle,
This looks good, I'm going to try that.
I'll keep you posted.Toon61MemberMarle,
Can you tell me how you did it.
Because you wrote in a previous comment: 'I did get it working using the method suggested here'.
What is 'the method suggested here'?Toon61MemberWell, I've figured this one out myself, and it is really simple.
Change the rewrite in the functions.php to this:
‘rewrite’ => array( ‘slug’ => ‘projecten’ )
And now go to ‘Settings/Permalinks’ in WordPress and save the permalinks.Done!
Toon61MemberDanica,
You're right if the portfolio page was just an ordinary page like many others. But the portfolio page is a dynamically created page consisting of items in the portfolio section of WordPress.
When you create a portfolio page, there is no physical page called 'portfolio' in the pages section. It's a real-time rendered page.
This leaves the question; how can I change the name of that page?September 9, 2013 at 3:49 am in reply to: How to add extra widgets in header section (executive theme) #61473Toon61MemberOops,
The header section should look like this:
________________________________________________________________ | widget 1 | widget 2 | widget 3 | | (logo) | (text or empty) | (additional info) | ________________________________________________________________ | menu | ________________________________________________________________
Toon61MemberGloria,
To find out what to edit in your CSS, you can use 'Web Inspector' in Safari (check 'Show Develop menu in menu bar' in Preferences) or Chrome, or FireBug in Firefox (an add-on to FireFox). With these tools you can play around with different CSS values to see how they affect the site. After that you can change the appropriate values in style.css
You can edit the font-size in CSS at this point (line 818 in style.css):
h6, .taxonomy-description h1, .widget-area h4 {
font-size: 16px;
margin: 0 0 20px;
text-transform: uppercase;
}I also noticed that the name of the chauffeur who quoted this (Terry from QVC...) is not surrounded by any extra HTML-tag, so it will be very hard to individually style this. There is also an empty <p></p> tag after this name. You should also check this out.
<p class="testimonial_body"></p>
<h4>Always reliable and creates an environment conducive to our guests to arrive and depart smoothly</h4>

I finally get it all to work the way I want it.
But, I didn't use Soliloquy, but Meta Slider instead (also free and I'm on a budget...).Toon61MemberThanks Brad,
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Hmm, are there any more participants in this forum? I somehow almost always get a reply from you.
Never mind, you always point me in the right direction and never complain about my newby questions.August 29, 2013 at 11:47 am in reply to: How to get a Responsive Slider on every page in Executive #59568Toon61MemberSusan
Thanks for the reply.
I hope that Soliloquy serves my needs, and as far as I can see/read, I think it does.
Thank you for pointing this one out.
I'll let you know if it worked for me.August 29, 2013 at 9:36 am in reply to: How to get a Responsive Slider on every page in Executive #59544Toon61MemberThanks Brad and Susan.
But the link Susan gave for Brian's tutorial is dead.
Never mind, I used the code Brad put in his reply.
One question though, the slider now appears on every page, but is there a way to change the images. Now it shows the same images as on the homepage, but I really would like to show other images on other pages.
Is this possible with this slider, or do I need another slider to accomplish this.
Or is there a way to do this with some sort of shortcode?Sorry for all these questions, but I'm pretty new/fresh to all of this.
Toon61MemberBrad,
Thank you again.That simple piece of code did the trick!
I used the upper line, because the Executive child theme still uses XHTML markup.Thank you very much.
Toon61MemberBrad,
Thanks for your reply.But selecting 'no content' is a method for showing posts on the homepage, but I'm talking about the Portfolio Archive page.
I don't have a specific widget on that page, because there is no sidebar.
But maybe I will show the title, but then without the url that is automatically attached to it.
The case is, that I use the portfolio to show the people working at the company, nothing more.If you know a better way of doing this, I'll be glad to hear that.
