Did you follow this:

Placing an Advertising Banner Above Your Header
If you would like to show an ad banner above your header, you can do so by placing your ad code in the ‘Header Hooks’ box and in the genesis_before_header section of the plugin page.February 12, 2013 at 3:39 pm in reply to: Minimum Theme – Home and blog category pages – number of displayed posts? #19908SusanModeratorUnder Reader Settings, set "Blog pages show at most" to 6 posts.
SusanModerator@jbculp - Any changes made to a child theme (whether it be the functions file or the stylesheet) WILL be over-written if you update the CHILD theme.Β An update to Genesis will not over-write any changes made to a child theme.

I'm going to close this thread as resolved - go ahead and start another thread if you have another question.
February 12, 2013 at 8:37 am in reply to: Using the secondary sidebar instead of primary on a single page #19812SusanModeratorTwo thoughts:
Try the Simple Sidebars plug in:Β http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/simple-sidebars
Or try this tutorial:

SusanModeratorOkay, so you've successfully imported the demo content (I see all the sample posts, and the menu items).
Now, you need to set up your home page following the instructions on the link I provided you - the menu, for example, goes in header right; you need to add the plug-in for the slider; you need to populate your widget areas.
The XML file doesn't set up your site - the XML file provides you with the content (pages, posts etc.) from the demo. You still need to set everything up per the directions.
SusanModeratorI'm not sure where you are missing the ad. Can you please be a bit more specific in terms of where you expected to see an ad? I'm seeing one below your header and above your first image (it's an ad for some Norton product).
SusanModeratorWithout being able to see your site, I can't really give you much direction other than to ask if you followed all the set-up instructions here:
http://my.studiopress.com/setup/executive-theme/
If you've done all that, and it's still not looking right, you can either a) submit a support ticket for assistance with set up, or b) provide a URL here on the forum and someone can take a look at your site.
SusanModeratorGreat! If you have any issues getting your site set up, go ahead and submit a support ticket. Otherwise, we'llbe here for any questions π
SusanModeratorNice job! I've just been playing around with it on my iPad - love the way the header and menu changes between the desktop version and the iPad.
Your color choices are great, too!
SusanModeratorYes, you will need to either buy a child theme, use one of the free child themes (Try Sample), or build your own. You shouldn't make any changes to the Genesis framework itself.
At the too of this screen is a section called "shop for themes" - look around there for something that appeals to you.
I like chocolate cake, too π
SusanModeratorThe first part of Brian's code (the php) goes into your functions.php file. Technically, it can go anywhere in the file after the opening statement (the </php), but as a matter of practice, I usually put new code towards the bottom of my functions file.
The CSS part of the code goes into your stylesheet, and I would recommend putting it toward the bottom of the file, too.
If you're interested in learning more, you might want to read Nick's tutorial here:Β http://designsbynickthegeek.com/tutorials/add-widgeted-sidebar.
SusanModeratorTom - you are correct - the secondary menu is below the header. π
SusanModeratorSam - can you please provide a link to your site?
The code snippet you've used to add a custom header is correct; and the snippet for moving the header is correct, so I don't see why there should be conflict.
SusanModeratorYou're welcome. π
Closing this thread as resolved.
SusanModeratorCreate a custom link, but in the URL field, just use # instead of an actual URL
SusanModeratorThe next thought I had was to add a widgeted area to the specific page, and populate that with a custom menu.
SusanModeratorI saw your post yesterday, and my first thought was the Simple Menus plugin, which allows you to assign the secondary navigation menu to a post or page basis, but I wasn't sure if that is what you wanted (it sounded like you wanted something within the content of the page? Β I thought I would suggest it just in case nobody else had a better solution.
February 11, 2013 at 8:58 am in reply to: How do I display the full content of a post on my home page #19606SusanModeratorThanks! I usually view it on an iPad (although it's been a while since I updated, since I spend more time here than on my blog) π
