When you upgrade Genesis, there isn't any issues. Typically, child themes don't tend to get updated very often, and when they do, it's not an automatic upgrade. If you go ahead and create a hybrid theme, you don't want to upgrade your child theme, because it will over-ride the changes you have made.
I recommend keeping a backup of your functions.php and stylesheet, and if there is an upgrade to the child theme, see what has been changed, and decide whether to incorporate those changes into your theme.
SusanModeratorSusanModeratorYou're welcome! 🙂
SusanModeratorYou indicated you created a "custom menu". Did you drag a custom menu widget into a widget area on the site?
I'm sure it's probably a simple fix, but without getting under the hood so to speak, I'm not sure what to recommend from here, other than submitting a support ticket, as it's a site set-up question.
SusanModeratorClosing as resolved:

We can certainly appreciate that change is hard. The forums are now, and will continue to be, a community driven place for users to share ideas and solutions. The official support channel is limited to assisting with issues related to using StudioPress themes. Topics pertaining to customization of StudioPress themes will be referred to the community forums. We are confident that, over time, the new forums will contain even better information than was previously available since we are able to encourage community members to participate in discussions, offer suggestions, and of course ask questions. This system is here to stay and will ultimately bring the best balance for both our users and our staff.
Because there are no plans to change the format of the forum, I'm going to close this topic, as the subject has been raised and answered previously...
SusanModeratorNobody is being censored *but* this suggestion has been made a number of times, and each time the response has been the same:

SusanModeratorMerlin:
I just took a look at your site - You've indicated you followed the set-up instructions:
http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/use-navigation-menus/When you are on the menus screen, do your pages look like they do in the link above? If not, is it possible to post a screenshot here for me to look at? (You can upload a screenshot to your media library, and post the link on the forum here).
(edited to add - for what it's worth, my site is built on the Metro theme, and here's how my menu set-up was done: screenshot)
March 1, 2013 at 5:58 pm in reply to: News Theme: Need to change side bar to accomendate 336W x 280L Adsense ad #23606SusanModeratorThis reply has been marked as private.SusanModerator@Jezza101 - my solution means that the top menu item doesn't actually open up a page - there is no option to do that (so, if in actual fact, you wanted to have the option to open up a page, put that page as the first item in the drop-down.)
Take a look at the demo for the Pretty Pictures theme here: http://demo.studiopress.com/pretty-pictures/#
If you click on "Follow" in the menu, it doesn't actually open up, or lead anywhere, it's just a method of giving you the option to click the sub-menu items.
Just tested it on an iPhone - to remove the drop-down, you have to select another menu item.
SusanModerator#3 - set the top level nmenu item to not direct to another page by using # in place of the URL will drop down the secondary nav menus instead.

SusanModeratorCan you please post a link to your site?
Did you indent the pages under your home menu item?
SusanModeratorStill get 404 page error. 🙁
SusanModeratorAre you talking about changing your password in this forum, or on your site?
To change your password in this forum, click on your avatar to go to your account information, then select "edit" and scroll down to "new password". Make the change, and save.
SusanModeratorKathiemt - I get a 404 error when I attempt to access the page.
Is the issue with the page itself, or just editing the page? Do you have the same problem attempting to edit other pages? I'm just trying to clarify if the issue is with the visual editor.
If it's the visual editor, try this post:
... I installed the “Use Google Libraries” plugin, and then activated it (don’t forget to activate it, as it won’t activate automatically after installation).
SusanModeratorToo bad, I can’t upload a screenshot.
You can upload the URL of a screenshot added to your WP media library, if that will help 🙂
SusanModeratorLog into your hosting site, and upload a fresh copy of your functions.php file. That will restore your site.
SusanModeratorThe text on your site is #555 which is a dark gray color; on the other site, it is #333, which is black. You need to change the content text to a darker color.
SusanModeratorTwo suggestions:
Or install the "image widget" plug-in, which I find super versatile.
