They look like they would work in terms of a simple way for submitting the question, but I don't see where they would then let me answer the question and display Q&A to all users (including a widget for the front page to display one [or more] question and answer).

sunnypapabearMemberAny ideas on where I can find simple instructions for creating a Custom Front-Page.php with the layout I show above? I've worked some with different codes, Apps, etc. but not an expert by any means.
sunnypapabearMemberIt took awhile and a few e-mails with Tech Support, but it turns out that, at least with the Prose Theme, if you Register a Widget in the Genesis/Custom Code/Custom Function field, it will NOT become visible in the Appearance/Widget screen. You have to do it with Simple Menus and Simple Hooks or edit the Theme Functions.php directly. Thanks to Tech Support for testing and digging into this to discover the issue with the Prose Theme.
sunnypapabearMemberInteresting Victor, thanks. I don't normally mess with the functions.php file directly - too easy to disable the website. Instead, with at least my theme - though I though with Genesis as a whole, there is a Custom Code area where you can enter any sort of CSS or PHP code without having to touch the functions.php. This is how StudioPress recommends handling changes of this sort. I've placed a number of different sets of code there, in the past, and they've always worked fine. But for some reason, this code doesn't work for me. I've even tried just using the following simple code to register a new Widget without even trying to Hook it. Again, does not work - can't see it in Appearance/Widgets.
genesis_register_sidebar( array(
'id' => 'custom-widget',
'name' => __( 'Custom Widget', 'genesis' ),
'description' => __( 'Custom Widget Area', 'prose' ),
) );sunnypapabearMemberBrad, what I actually have within my development website, http://petercruikshank.com/dev/, is the following. I didn't want to put that fully in the original Post as I just wanted to see if the code should work or not.
genesis_register_sidebar( array(
'id' => 'header-left',
'name' => __( 'Header Left', 'wpsites' ),
'description' => __( 'Header left widget area', 'wpsites' ),
) );
/**
* @author Brad Dalton WP Sites
* @example http://wp.me/p1lTu0-9VA
*/
add_action( 'genesis_header', 'wpsites_left_header_widget', 11 );
function wpsites_left_header_widget() {
if (is_active_sidebar( 'header-left' ) ) {
genesis_widget_area( 'header-left', array(
'before' => '<div class="header-left">',
'after' => '</div>',
) );
}}However when I put this in my Genesis/Custom Code under the Custom Function area, I don't see a Header Left Widget on the Appearance/Widget screen. Can you, or anyone else, tell me why the Widget is NOT showing up? Is there something else I need to do?
sunnypapabearMemberYes, I got this code originally from your site, made the changes to replace wpsites with the theme name and tried it, but can't see the Widget under Appearance/Widgets?
sunnypapabearMemberThanks Studiozen, but I just found out my hosting service, Tiger Technologies, does a daily backup of the entire site (a weeks worth, then a monthly backup), including MySQL database and I can easily restore it from a couple of days ago. Whew!
sunnypapabearMemberThis is my website http://petercruikshank.com/ It is WordPress with a Genesis framework by Studiopress. I use Genesis to incorporate Custom CSS. I'm pretty sure the recommended CSS snippet will work find, but I need to figure out how to specify it, in the snippet, for just the Menu text.
sunnypapabearMemberGreat, looks essy. Any thoughts on how to apply to just menu text and not other areas of the page?
sunnypapabearMemberFor some reason it didn't include the image with the Caption, so here it is.
sunnypapabearMemberYes, it works doing it that way. Now I am wondering if having four excerpts after the full post is too much? Any thoughts?
sunnypapabearMemberBut Genesis doesn't want you to directly edit the Functions file and instead provides the Custom Functions so that the Functions file remains clean. I already have one set of functions in the Custom Functions and a ton of css changes in the Custom CSS. All work fine. Anything that works in the Functions file should work the same in the Custom Functions.
sunnypapabearMemberThanks Cathy, I tried it. In the Admin panel, under Genesis there is a option for Genesis Code; which allows you to enter Custom CSS and also Custom Functions, so you don't have to actually edit the CSS or Function files. I put the code in the Custom Functions area and saved it. All I got when I tried to go to the URL was a Server Error 500. So I had to remove it. But thanks for trying :0)
sunnypapabearMemberActually, would it make more sense to have the full post of the most recent one followed by some excerpts on the front page, and then nothing but excerpts on Blog page itself?
sunnypapabearMemberCan this just be put in the Genesis Custom Code?
I have a similar issue. On the Front Page I have a column for recent Blogs and then a Blog Page with the same blogs, but then the ability to go to more pages of blogs. On both pages I want to show the complete most recent Post followed by four (4) excerpts, then have the option to see more blog post (e.g. 2nd page, 3rd page, etc.).
My website is http://PeterCruikshank.com if you want to see what I am trying to do. Currently I have nothing but Excerpts on the front page column and the blog page.
Thank in advance for your generous assistance.

December 7, 2015 at 1:16 pm in reply to: CSS or Short Code to setup Clickable Areas in Headers #173051sunnypapabearMemberIf I include the "#title a" as part of the custom code the title disappears. Right now I have the code with just the
"title-area" and the pink block, without the "#title a" The settings are:#title-area {
text-indent:-9999px;
float: left;
width: 65%;
padding: 75px;
display: block;
background: pink;
}The test-indent:-9999px; is so that the title itself doesn't appear on the page and only used for browsers.
December 7, 2015 at 1:10 pm in reply to: CSS or Short Code to setup Clickable Areas in Headers #173048sunnypapabearMemberThe problem is that the Title area is NOT clickable :0( I am trying to figure out why and how to reset it so it will be Clickable once again.
