    Hi braddalton,

    Thank you for your response. I don't know how to center the entire menu. I have tried every way I can think of to use text-align but I can't get it to work. It's likely that I'm not using the right classes but I don't know how to make it right.

    Thank you,
    Julia

    I'm glad you worked it out. Unfortunately, I don't think your CSS will work for me because I put my header above the normal position. However, I wondered if "overflow" might work for me. I'll experiment with it and let you know later.

    Thanks for posting an idea!

    Hi!

    Unfortunately, I never figured out an answer. I needed to put this mystery on hold but I'll pick up my investigation again this week. If I figure anything out, I'll post it here.

    Unfortunately, that's not it. I tried playing around with height in lots of different ways and it broke the desktop view.

    I may need to find hire someone to figure this out for me.

    I appreciate all your help, Brad. Thank you very much.

    I still haven't figured out what is going on with the white space below my header when my site is on mobile devices. Does anyone have any clues for me?

    Thank you!

    Hi Brad,

    My apologies. I though I linked to my site in my first post. Here it is:

    First of all, Brad, thank you for the tip about reducing my screen size in my browser. I did than and it worked great. I used firebug and this is what I found in the code for the big white section below my header:

    .header-image .site-title a {
      float:left;
      margin:0;
      max-width:1140px;
      min-height:200px;
      padding:0;
      width:100%;
    }

    I thought that the problem might be with "min-height". Once my header is shrunk in the mobile view, I wondered if the mobile browsers were still leaving 200px height for the header, even though it didn't need the full space. I tried deleting this in Firebug but it didn't help. The white space remained.

    I know that you have suggested that the padding is the issue but I'm not sure this is right. The white space is much larger than any padding setting I can find. I think there is something else going on. Any other ideas? If not, I may try support for this issue.

    Thank you again. You've been very helpful.

    Hi braddalton,

    I'm not clear on how Media Queries work so would you mind seeing if I'm on track? Would I remove the padding from this place:

    In the "In the @media only screen and (max-width: 1023px) {" Section:

    .genesis-nav-menu a,
    	.genesis-nav-menu > .first > a,
    	.genesis-nav-menu > .last > a,
    	.site-header .genesis-nav-menu a {
    	padding: 16px;
    	}

    Is this the right place?

    On a related note, is there a function on Firebug that I could use to inspect my site from a mobile view? If so, I might be able to figure these things out easier. As it is, I don't know how see the code on mobile sites.

    Thank you very much for your help,
    Julia

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! My problem was I used dashes instead of underscores in the ".genesis_repsonsive_slider" part. I've changed it and it works now.

    It's not the visual editor--it's the CSS editor that is missing for my site.

    I still have the visual editor. Susan said that Synthesis disabled the CSS/php editor that would normally be in the "Appearances" section.

    I'm going to send a ticket to Synthesis and see if this explains why it is missing. If Synthesis did disable it, my bet is that it's for security reasons (although I'm not techie enough to know if this is true.) If I want to edit the CSS files, I'll just have to FTP them.

    Susan, I just saw your post. I use Synthesis. They disabled the editor?? I guess I haven't had to do any editing since I started with them.

    Well, I wish I had my editor but at least I know what is going on now.

    Thank you very much, Susan and Anitac, for all your help. I really appreciate you helping me figure this out.

    I just re-installed WP but I used the automatic install. If I have to do it manually, I'll have to do it a bit later because I'll need to take some time to make sure I do it right.

    I checked my profile and the box "Disable the visual editor when writing" is un-checked. I don't know how this would affected the site editor (not the page/post editor), but just FYI.

    I just installed Twenty Twelve and I still couldn't see the editor. This must mean it's WordPress related.

    What do I do then?

    Thank you very much for your help.

    I disabled all the plugins and that didn't help. I've re-activated them because many of them are core to my site, but while they were deactivated, I still couldn't see the editor.

    Any other ideas for me?

    OH My Word, Brad. Thank you!

    First of all, where have I been? I thought I knew "all things genesis" and yet somehow, I never noticed this plugin. This is exactly what I was asking for.

    And then a double, super-dooper thank you for the code.

    I really appreciate your help, Brad and Susan. You can mark this post as "happily closed"!

    Thank you, Susan. I think this is getting a bit complicated for me. Is there any way I could choose the "content-sidebar-sidebar" layout (as recommended for the theme) but add a bit of code that says if it isn't the home page, it should not show the secondary sidebar?

    If not, I think I'll just choose the layout I want for each page.

    Thank you very much for your help.

    Hi Bill,

    Thank you so much for hanging in with me on this one.  I appreciate your help.  Thank you.

    I think the information I missed was that once there is a character limit, the HTML is stripped.  I read that warning multiple times but I didn't realize it was the character limit that activated it.  When I saw the content without formatting, I misinterpreted what was going on.

    I think I will keep no character limit for now, and maybe I'll put a more tag into every post at some point in the future.

    Your explanation is very helpful.  Have a great day.
