MemberAm I going crazy or what?
I can't see the editor. I just logged into my site and I was going to check out some CSS and I can't find the editor.
I apologize that this is such a basic question but it seems like the editor disappeared. I would swear it was under the "appearances" section. What's going on?
Thank you for your patience.

MemberI disabled all the plugins and that didn't help. I've re-activated them because many of them are core to my site, but while they were deactivated, I still couldn't see the editor.
Any other ideas for me?

KeymasterOkay, one more thing to try then - switch themes to Twenty Twelve. See if you still have the issue. That will tell us if it's theme related or WordPress related.

MemberI just installed Twenty Twelve and I still couldn't see the editor. This must mean it's WordPress related.
What do I do then?
Thank you very much for your help.

KeymasterDid you do an update recently to an new version of WordPress? You may have to run the update again. Let me know. Sometimes when the update doesn't finish, you may have to manually do it. But see if you can update WordPress again via the Dashboard.

ModeratorIt might not be WP related; it might be hosting related. I know, for example, that Synthesis disabled the editor, and all changes are to be done via FTP. It looks like are hosted with Media Temple - I don't know what their policy is about the editor, but you might want to check with them...

MemberI just re-installed WP but I used the automatic install. If I have to do it manually, I'll have to do it a bit later because I'll need to take some time to make sure I do it right.
I checked my profile and the box "Disable the visual editor when writing" is un-checked. I don't know how this would affected the site editor (not the page/post editor), but just FYI.

MemberSusan, I just saw your post. I use Synthesis. They disabled the editor?? I guess I haven't had to do any editing since I started with them.
Well, I wish I had my editor but at least I know what is going on now.
Thank you very much, Susan and Anitac, for all your help. I really appreciate you helping me figure this out.

KeymasterWe bumped responses. How the heck can you edit your site if you don't have the Visual Editor? That's nuts to disable that function which is standard in WordPress. I hope you can maneuver around without it. That's a deal breaker for me. I won't use any hosting company that strips out WordPress features.

MemberIt's not the visual editor--it's the CSS editor that is missing for my site.
I still have the visual editor. Susan said that Synthesis disabled the CSS/php editor that would normally be in the "Appearances" section.
I'm going to send a ticket to Synthesis and see if this explains why it is missing. If Synthesis did disable it, my bet is that it's for security reasons (although I'm not techie enough to know if this is true.) If I want to edit the CSS files, I'll just have to FTP them.
