Thanks for your reply. I was surprised to discover the inline styling via firebug which showed this coming from the Exec Pro child theme css. I don't usually mess with the child theme settings and instead use my own custom.css to make any adjustments - so I don't accidentally screw things up with the main theme structure.
So, how would I remove the theme's inline styling - would I need to add something in my custom.css as follows:
.site-container {
/*min-width: 1280px*/
}to cancel out their inline sytling?
Thanks for your help.....

Yes I have tried the Featured Posts and Pages widgets before I found this code. The widgets are ok, but then you lose the 'filterable' functionality of the archive page. It would be helpful to be able to place the archive page on a post or page elsewhere because it pulls in the styling and functionality ....
Is there a way of just adjusting the code to work within the Genesis Exec Pro theme without breaking the layout - obviously there is because this other company has done it, and I am just trying to figure out how it has been done so I can adopt a similar approach.
I find using the Custom Hook Boxes are great for placing content where you want on a page/post, so it would be useful to find a code snippet that would allow me to do this without breaking the layout of the site.
Is there a reason why we shouldn't use query_posts?
Thanks for your help!
December 17, 2014 at 6:38 am in reply to: How do you display CPT Archive page on another post or page? #134742PFXMemberI should state that I can't show the web page of what I am trying to do because its not live, but an example of what I am trying to achieve is similar to this website:
http://www.scorchlondon.com/portfolio/motion-graphics-reel/
The portfolio archive page links to the post, and then at the bottom of the post the portfolio archive is displayed - which encourages the viewer to click to watch more videos. So I am trying to do the same - put the portfolio archive at the bottom of the post which I can do , but it breaks my footer layout from being full-width across the page and insteads forces it to only spread across the main content width - so something is effecting this.
Do I need to add code to the actual archive template page OR do I need to adjust the code I have placed in my Custom Hook Box which is displaying the archive template page?
thanks
PFXMemberHi Brad
Actually I thought it might help if I showed you what I did incase I run into errors later
I loaded this code in to 'custom-functions.php' (via the Genesis Extender plugin):
<?php
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'wppfx_load_javascript_files' );function wppfx_load_javascript_files() {
wp_register_script( 'bootstrap', get_template_directory_uri() . '/themes/executive-pro/bootstrap/js/bootstrap.js', array('jquery'), '3.3.0', true );
wp_register_script( 'isotope', get_template_directory_uri() . '/themes/executive-pro/isotope.docs/isotope.pkgd.min.js', array('jquery'), '2.0.1', true );}
?>I understand by adding the array('jquery') and the numbers that follow is to help keep the site up-to-date with latest versions.
Also I didn't FTP the whole folder, I was only loading up the .js file to my themes folder - so I think this may have been effecting things as well.
So I will be executing this code when I want the script to load on a page:
<?php
wp_enqueue_script( ‘nameofscript’ );
if (is_front-page) ()) {
wp_enqueue_script( ‘nameofscript’ );
}
?>Hopefully that will work and I will try to come back to this forum and update incase anyone else has a similar problem.
Thanks again
PFXMemberThanks again for the reply. I found a 'developers' forum where 'adding scripts' was discussed in great detail. Long story short, I have managed to at least register two of the scripts for now in the custom functions area of the Genesis Extender Plugin
so far it hasn't broke the site - which is at least one step forward.
I have been able to use the proper code as you suggested above and I understand that I can load the script per page or with conditional tags by using the 'wp enqueue' code that you put above.
So I do believe I have had some partial success in at least registering the scripts. I won't know until I build out the page content to know if I have had total success or not - but from this forum I have understood things a little better.
Thanks again for your help - much appreciated!
PFXMemberHi Brad
Unfortunately I tried this code as per your article but all that did is put all of the text from this script at the top or bottom of a page - it didn't actually load anything.
I tried adding it to functions.php - in the header/footer areas as you recommend - all giving the same result.I can't seem to work out where I am going wrong exactly.
Thanks
PaulaPFXMemberI have been exploring similar page template ideas and I did read that it is now best practice to name them 'template' and not 'page' … eg. my-project-template.php instead of my-project-page.php
one thing I have found useful is exploring Genesis Extender - although I haven't used it fully yet but can help to better understand how things are coded and this tutorial demonstrates creating a custom template page and adding customised widget areas to manage content
another tut that might be helpful is by Carrie Dills

PFXMemberHi Brad - thanks again for your thoughts on this.
My purpose for asking this, I am looking to build a website that is similar to this site http://www.scorchlondon.co.uk.
I certainly don't have as much content as they do, but the type of content and how the website loads and displays the information is exactly what I need to try and build - as over time, I will end up with as much content.I know that using CPT for organising all the content is going to be a good way to build up a database of information on the site - but I am trying to determine if I need to create page/post templates for each section on the website - 'STAFF', 'VIDEO PORTFOLIO', 'PROJECTS' etc … or should I just create a post for each element with all its customisations built in and use the default pages that ship with Exec Pro to create each page as is.
Each time you create a new Page in Exec Pro - it can become unique and customisable using various plugins, widgets and Genesis Extender. In the past I would have just created a Page Template to do such things - so I am trying to understand why the need for additional page templates?
Sorry if I am a bit vague - I have been buried in reading tutorials, getting up to speed with many of the new features etc to determine the best way forward when building this site as I have done one before and it got completely wiped when I updated it and changed theme - so I want to make sure I have a better structure set up this time.
Thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated as my brain is fried from reading so much information and trying to make sense of everything.
PFXMemberHi Brad
Thanks for the quick response - I've had a look at that info and in registering the script it states:add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'wpsites_register_load_script' );
/**
* @author Brad Dalton - WP Sites
* @example http://wp.me/p1lTu0-a40
*/
function wpsites_register_load_script() {
wp_register_script( 'your-script', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/your-script.js' );wp_enqueue_script( 'your-script' );
}
I have tried to add this but seem to be coming across a problem as it keeps breaking the site. So below I am pasting what I would put, using the code above with one of the scripts I want to load - can you please check if I am doing anything wrong?
I have taken the 'jQueryUI' script as an example:add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'wpsites_register_load_script' );
/**
* @author Brad Dalton - WP Sites
* @example http://wp.me/p1lTu0-a40
*/
function wpsites_register_load_script() {
wp_register_script( 'jquery-ui.min.js', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/jquery-ui.min.js' );wp_enqueue_script( 'jquery-ui.min.js' );
}
Also, do I need to put this code in every time for each script or is there a shorter way to do this?
Thanks for your help.
