ParticipantI'm also having this same issue. There's not "edit" option any more.
I've deactivated all plugins, the site is installed on my web host (not localhost) and have never has this issue until now.
I've tried this and both child themes Aspire and Author Pro have the issue. No way to edit theme. I've checked under Appearance where it typically would be found and under Genesis.

ParticipantThanks Davinder, I can get the dashicons to work with text like in that example but I'm running into trouble getting rid of the text - ideally I just want the dashicons images (Home, Email, etc.) without the text/words beside them.

ParticipantThanks @Navitas I just bought Gary Jones' book which is exactly what I was looking for (actually even more than I was looking for!). I've made a pot of tea and I'm diving in 😉

ParticipantThanks @anitac - I'll keep the plugin in mind but I'd prefer to find a way to do this using the functions/grid loop rather than a plugin if at all possible.

ParticipantThanks @braddalton I'll give that a whirl over the next couple of days and I'll post back here however it turns out.
I'm planning to use the basic sample child theme and go from there.

ParticipantYou can use the Genesis Simple Edits plug in to do that:Â http://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-simple-edits/
Cheers!

ParticipantI think you just need to remove the loop on the home.php file. I had a similar question and this post helped:
