Hi Scott,
I've found this plugin is the easiest way to create custom 404 pages.It hasn't been updated in a while but I'm currently using on several sites with WP 4.7 and Genesis 2.4.2 and various child themes.
Hope this helps.
DebralondondebMemberJust to reiterate the process is:
Check Genesis version is at the latest - vs 2.4.0 that should take care of it.If you can't remove Genesis (delete button missing) from the WP dashboard go to cPanel access domain>wp-content>themes> delete the old version > upload new vs as a zip then extract. Check your site then I would delete the zip file as a matter of housekeeping.
Known issues wtih WP 4.7
Simple Social Icons released a fix today so check you have vs 2.0.1 for that or social icons are borken
W3TotalCache - disable it BEFORE updating to 4.7 I've seen it locking up sites and had to deactivate all plugins, clear the cache on the server, reactivate plugins and waiting for W3TC to issue an update before turning back on.Hope this helps.

Hope that resolves it for you.

Unfortunately it wasn't the webinar plugin - I deleted that as it was a holdover from a previous iteration of the website and client says they no longer use it. I also deactivated and deleted our current forms plugin but that didn't fix it either.
I use a custom permalink structure /%post_id%/%postname%/ and have tried that with and without the trailing "/" neither have helped.
I'm really just putting this here so that anyone else coming along later may find it helpful:
I got onto the hosting provider and they tell me this issue is being caused by a database error in the WPIncludes folder:
WP includes>template loader>redirect
DB error table 404 redirect is throwing this errorspecific function is
call_user_func_arrayI'm going to submit a support ticket if I get a fix I will update this thread.

@media only screen and (max-width: 768px) {
.nav-primary .genesis-nav-menu.responsive-menu li a {
background: none;
color: #000;
}
}

Thanks for taking the time to look at this and respond I do appreciate it.You probably (certainly) will know this but to explain for anyone else viewing the thread in search of a fix:
The CSS styling for FontAwesome4Menus (plugin) is specified in
appearance>menu>pagename(home)>CSS Classes(optional) "fa-home" displays the home/house icon.Since the Genesis 2.2.0 update not only were the icons "missing" but even applying David's fix in the css file, the location, size and style of font awesome icons was still all wrong on the site. I've reverted to Genesis 2.1.2 so the site doesn't look like a dogs dinner until we find a proper fix.
There do seem to be quite a few other users having the same issue and StudioPress support are looking at it. I will post here when we find the fix.
Thanks again for the support.

I can see there are others reporting the same issue. I'm assuming it's related to the WP 4.3 update because they did something with icons in that release. I'm confident someone will figure it out and issue a fix soon.
Thanks for the quick response though, much appreciated!
December 12, 2014 at 11:06 am in reply to: Replace Centric Pro Featured / Hero Blue Section with Full Width Image #134389londondebMemberIt's important to understand there is a "difference" when you upload the image via Appearance>Customize>Background Image> which works, as opposed to using an
<img src="imageURL" />
in a text widget placed in the home 1 widget area.Also if you've changed themes recently and have widget areas with "hold-over" code in them you should check that to be sure there is nothing in there that is telling the image specifically not to display say on home or landing pages.
