    It says I'm running Genesis 2.01. I don't understand the XHTML thing. Is that something that should've been automatically updated when I upgraded to Genesis 2? It's a pretty fresh install. This site had a virus and we had to start from scratch a couple weeks ago. I probably uploaded 1.9 and then upgraded or something.

    Hmmmm, I used this code and it is not changing the header on the page number I specified. The site is daniellestewart.com

    .header-image.page-id-101 .site-header #title-area {
      background: url(images/videosheader.png) no-repeat scroll center top transparent;
    }

    Thanks!

    I installed it and that definitely works when I paste a post link.  But if I put the root site and not an actual post it still does not have that option.  Tried 2 browsers.  I even tried embedding an image in the footer a few weeks ago and that wouldn't take either.  Any other way to make the facebook thumb for the root when I'm not using featured images?  We don't mind embedding one somewhere on the site.  That just didn't seem to work with the <img src> code in the footer.  It shows on the site but not a FB thumb option.

    Thanks!

    No, I don't want any featured image at all.  I haven't set one.  When I add an image anywhere in a blog post, it shows up above the post and inside the post, as you can see at that link above.

    Actually, after putting those 2 codes in the functions.php file, it does not seem to be putting the number of characters I set and also no read more link.  Thought the characters did work because one post did get longer.  But I just changed the number from 340 to 300 and nothing happened..   Confused.

    Thanks

    Also, I found this...  http://www.wpsquare.com/customize-genesis-post-excerpts/

    I added both those codes to the functions.php file and it now shows the right number of characters but it does not say <READ MORE> after the excerpt.  That's what I'd like to fix.

    Sorry to bump this, but I haven't had a chance to work on it in the past 8 days and I think it got lost in the mix.  Why would one post show 300 something characters and the next show 400 something characters?  They both have over 400.  I'd like to specify how many characters for each post.  It looks uneven.  Also, how can I add a <Read More> link at the end of the excerpt, rather than just a [...] that doesn't lead anywhere?

    Thanks!

    Hi Brad...  I actually renamed uncategorized to something new rather than deleting it.  That shouldn't be a problem, should it?

    Thanks...  Why is it that the character count is higher on one post than another though?

    Appreciate it

    Not one to bump things, but I figured this might have gotten lost in the mix during the holidays!  🙂  Happy New Year...  Would love to get this going today if you're around.  I might have done something wrong, but I'm pretty sure I copy and pasted these snippets correctly.

    Thanks!

    Hi there!  Just got back and am trying this now.

    I added the codes you suggested to home.php and functions.php and it still seems to show either excerpts or full posts on both pages, depending what's selected in the Genesis area.

    Also, after trying that, I figured I had to change the "reading" area in settings to "show latest posts"  ...  After doing that, I got this error below...  (I replaced the site with mydomain so it's not on here a bunch of times.)

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /nfs/c05/h04/mnt/160582/domains/mydomain.com/html/wp-content/themes/streamline/home.php on line 43

    Probably doing something dumb, but not sure what.  I left the code where you told me to put it.  Did I do something wrong?

    Thanks!

    B

    http://lorasomoza.com/ ...  Want full posts on the main page since it's a podcast and want the play buttons to show.

    Just want excerpts under the blog tab...   http://lorasomoza.com/?cat=3

    Thanks!
