Yep, mine shows 10 and 10 though. I don't have the search engine discouraging checked either. But mine says "Your latest posts" like I mentioned. I have posts, but they aren't showing on the main page. It's showing no content.
kilerbMemberHi Anita... I went to Genesis>Theme Settings. I don't see anything regarding the <read more> option. I see excerpt or full post... Which I changed to excerpt. Everything looks great now, But the posts all still end with [...] rather than a link to <read more> Isn't that what that tutorial posted above is about? I added those codes to the functions.php like it said... And you said I didn't have to? I'm confused! Hahahah 🙂
kilerbMemberActually, I found the excerpt character length in the link above. I actually added 3 pieces of code to the functions.php... Only 1 of them seemed to work (The one that states how many characters the excerpt should be...) The other 2 didn't seem to work. The [...] still remains rather than the <read more> with a link. Here's the code I used...
add_filter( 'the_content_more_link', 'customize_wp_read_more_link' ); function customize_wp_read_more_link() { return '<a class="more-link" href="' . get_permalink() . '">[Read More]</a>'; } add_filter( 'get_the_content_more_link', 'modify_read_more_link_text' ); function modify_read_more_link_text() { return '... <a class="more-link" href="' . get_permalink() . '">[Read The Entire Article]</a>'; } add_filter( 'excerpt_length', 'change_excerpt_length' ); function change_excerpt_length($length) { return 65; }
kilerbMemberHi Anita... Thanks! I haven't had a chance to look at this until now. The demo you linked was in maintenance mode the day you sent that and still is. Just so you know 🙂
Where do you set how many characters an excerpt will show? It's not filling up all the space and I think it will look better with more.
kilerbMemberI meant to the left for the 150x150 image. On his site that's not a featured image. I just embedded it there and it kind of looks like one for now. I'd like an excerpt with a featured 150x150 image like on the freecomedyshows.com site. 🙂
kilerbMemberHmmmmmmm... I added that right with all the other 'define' parts on wp-config, but they still don't move. I wonder if this happened because I updated genesis on the site or because I moved servers a few weeks ago. I was supposed to make the change in wp-config like that tutorial said right? 🙂 Thanks!
kilerbMemberThanks Andrea... Really appreciate it! 🙂
kilerbMemberThanks!!! That worked. I'm not sure if you have an iPhone, but at the top there are 3 little white lines that you click and if you click it, the nav menu shows. Can I just make it show the nav menu without having to click that? Or can I at least change those 3 white lines to the word menu? It's not very noticeable... I'd inspect the element, but it's not there on my computer's browser, only on the phone. :/ Didn't see any image in the images folder that had 3 white lines in it, or i'd just change that in photoshop. Thanks 🙂
kilerbMemberOr even just a solid color without her photo. Her photo is right under the content and it looks strange.
kilerbMemberHi! Thanks! 🙂 It's nikkiglaser.com
kilerbMemberHi nutsandbolts. Not sure if you're subscribed to this post, but hopefully you see this 🙂
I have a newer studiopress theme. The 411 one. I want to remove the background completely on mobile platforms because the background just gets covered by the content on these phones/tablets. So I looked at your instructions above. The code that I believe I need to change is below. Little different than the theme in question on this post.
I added `{
background-image:url("gradient2.png");
}`
to each of those areas below, but it still shows the background that was uploaded in the background area of the dashboard. What am I doing wrong? Here's the code that is there now (unchanged without the addition i mentioned above...) If you have some quick advice, it would be appreciated! 🙂Media Queries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- */ @media only screen and (max-width: 1140px) { .site-container, .site-header { width: 60%; } } @media only screen and (max-width: 1023px) { .site-container, .site-header { width: 720px; } .site-container { float: none; margin: 0 auto; } .site-header { position: static; } .site-extras, .site-inner { margin-top: 40px; } .click-here, .social-icons { bottom: auto; max-width: 49%; position: static; } .click-here { float: right; } .social-icons { float: left; } .simple-social-icons ul li { display: inline-block !important; margin-bottom: 0 !important; } } @media only screen and (max-width: 768px) { .site-container { padding: 0 5%; } .title-area { padding-bottom: 0; } .header-image .title-area { padding-bottom: 10px; } .footer-widgets-1, .footer-widgets-2, .header-image .site-title > a, .header-image .title-area, .site-container, .site-header, .site-header .widget-area, .title-area { width: 100% } .site-header, .site-header .widget-area, .title-area { text-align: center; } .site-title { margin-bottom: 10px; } .entry-comments-link, .responsive-menu { display: none; } #responsive-menu-icon { display: block; } .entry-title { font-size: 30px; } .five-sixths, .four-sixths, .one-fourth, .one-half, .one-sixth, .one-third, .three-fourths, .three-sixths, .two-fourths, .two-sixths, .two-thirds { margin: 0; width: 100%; } .footer-widgets .footer-widgets-1 .widget:last-child { margin-bottom: 40px; } .click-here, .social-icons { float: none; max-width: 100%; } } @media only screen and (max-width: 568px) { .site-inner { margin-top: 20px; } .author-box, .entry, .entry-comments, .entry-comments .comment, .entry-comments .comment-reply, .site-footer, .welcome-message { margin-bottom: 20px; }
kilerbMemberReally? For the first time in 4 years, I'm annoyed that I bought your full package. You guys have really slipped with customer support. You used to answer all questions, and when you couldn't, you would at least let the individual know. Now it's just radio silence? Really frustrating.
kilerbMemberCan someone at least tell me why nobody is replying? Forum changes? Anything? You guys used to be right on top of posts. Are these 2 questions not applicable? Can someone at least tell me something? Nothing worse than being ignored. Is it a community thing without studiopress employees now? Someone?
kilerbMemberHi... has the system here changed? All my questions used to be answered within hours. Did they remove the employees and make this just a community forum where we hope someone in the community can help? Or am I being a baby and not waiting long enough?
kilerbMemberI realized why the mobile version still looks bad after taking the viewport meta tag out of functions.php. When the browser window is too small, everything scrunches together. Which is fine when you make the browser window too small, but how can we make it so it's zoomed all the way out on mobile devices? Or make it so it zooms in and doesn't scrunch everything together... Is that possible?
Also, I just realized I put the remove mobile code above in section 2,
(which should have been pasted for question 1...) When the code for question 2 should have been this...// Custom Footer add_filter('genesis_footer_creds_text', 'footer_creds_filter'); function footer_creds_filter($creds) { $creds = 'Copyright [footer_copyright] · MyWebsite.com - Site by: <a href="http://www.WeMakeSites.com">We Make Sites</a>'; return $creds; }
kilerbMemberIt was minimized... I didn't even know things could be minimized in the genesis area 🙂
kilerbMemberThanks! I think the problem is I don't see a "show logo" or text in the genesis settings. I'm in there now and did a page search for "logo" and it didn't come up. I haven't used an older theme like this and now it's foreign to me. I might be in the wrong place. Looking again. Thanks
kilerbMemberIs it possible to get the top right widget in the header when you do custom headers with this method? Still stuck on that. Thanks!
kilerbMemberThanks Brad. So I did what you said in regards to the header and the custom headers only took up half the header area. So I switched the width below to 960px. But, now the social media widget that used to be in the top right corner of the header (actually inside the header area) is now below the header completely. I know I could probably move it above the header with some hooks, but I really liked it when it was inside the header at the top right like before. Is this possible to do with my custom headers? How can I achieve this? Thanks!`/* Image Header - Partial Width
------------------------------------------------------------ */.header-image #title-area,
.header-image #title,
.header-image #title a {
display: block;
float: left;
height: 335px;
overflow: hidden;
padding: 0;
text-indent: -9999px;
width: 960px;`kilerbMemberAlso... (Continued) The old code does work, but it's only showing up on the left half of the header. Doesn't fill it up completely. Why would that happen? Thanks!
