Shoot, I just figured it out.

I'm interested in swapping WP UI for a better one if there's one available.
I installed Parralax this weekend and activated the plugin.
That made my widgets admin stop working. I couldn't drag any widgets around or open them.
I disabled WP UI and my widgets admin started working again.
So, once I finish working with my widgets, I can activate WP UI.
But that won't help in the future when I need to admin widgets again. All the tabbed content will be wonky while the plugin is deactivated.
So I'm on the fence about this plugin.
Yeah, the behaviour was unexpected. It's an inclusion type function really, but in that way it's exclusive. 🙂
So I created a Category called Feature and added the id to the function. Now my home page displays only posts categorized as Feature, which is perfect for my use case.
That's a good idea Marc. I didn't think of that. Snip and tweak the code and turn it into a plugin maybe?
I'm also looking at this as an option:
http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/It's not the exact functionality I'm after, but it seems close. It offers two layouts - slideshow and thumbnail gallery. The thumbnail galery option has several features including thumb size settings and captions.
It's on my to do list to check out more.

@Susan - Genesis 1.9 Grid looks interesting. Does the grid work for dividing a page's content area up? Those blocks look more about carving up a site theme.
@Marc - That theme looks great! I only new a few pages on my site to have a Pintest or Squidoo Postcard look-and-feel. So I don't think the theme option will work for me.Maybe I should just build a table in a post. 😛
