You're probably using a custom function for your footer and it's not being removed in the landing page template. Somewhere (i.e. your functions.php), you've likely included a bit of code that looks like this:
remove_action( 'genesis_footer', 'genesis_do_footer'); add_action( 'genesis_footer', 'my_custom_footer' ); function my_custom_footer() { //* Your footer content }
That code removes the default Genesis footer and replaces it with the output of my_custom_footer(). The StudioPress child themes that come with landing page templates account for the default footer by using
remove_action( 'genesis_footer', 'genesis_do_footer');
in the template file. However, when users replace the default function with a custom function, they need to account for it. Therefore, you need to add this to your landing page template:remove_action( 'genesis_footer', 'my_custom_footer');
Just like you removed the default footer to replace it with the custom footer, you need to remove the custom footer. Just remember to replace my_custom_footer with whatever your function name is.

December 12, 2014 at 11:56 am in reply to: Genesis Sample – Footer Widget Missing on Home Page? #134394Ren VenturaMemberHi, Greg. Sorry for the delay on this. Apparently, I didn't subscribe to the thread so I haven't been getting email updates. I just looked at the site again and I'm seeing the footer widgets area on your home page. Were you able to get this fixed?

Ren VenturaMemberHere's a snippet that will work for you. Paste it in your functions.php
//* Remove the Website input option in comments add_filter( 'comment_form_default_fields', 'rv_remove_comment_author_url' ); function rv_remove_comment_author_url( $fields ) { unset( $fields['url'] ); return $fields; }

Ren VenturaMemberGotcha! I'm glad to have helped.

Ren VenturaMemberI see you got the problem resolved. For reference, you need to have the following line at the top of all functions.php files when you use Genesis:
//* Start the engine include_once( get_template_directory() . '/lib/init.php' );
I'm not sure if you were missing that but it's a required line so that may have been the problem.
Also, when you're getting that blank white screen, enable WP Debug in your wp-config.php file (just change the word false to true). This will print an error to the screen that you can use to troubleshoot or paste into support forums so someone else can better assist.

Ren VenturaMemberConceptually, how is that going to be done? It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense because a featured image is typically much larger in height than a navigation bar and, depending on the colors of the image, could cause the navigation links to be illegible.

Ren VenturaMemberGlad you got it working. However, was the solution something different? What you included above as the code your friend came up with appears to be an exact copy of the gist I shared earlier.

Ren VenturaMemberOutput the CSS with a conditional using the wp_head action. For example:
add_action( 'wp_head', 'my_conditional_css' ); function my_conditional_css() { if ( is_singular( 'post' ) ) { echo ' <style> /* CSS here */ </style> '; } }
This snippet is easy if you have a little CSS but you may want to include a separate file if you have a lot.

December 7, 2014 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Genesis Sample – Footer Widget Missing on Home Page? #133940Ren VenturaMemberDo you have anything in your functions.php or elsewhere that could be conditionally removing this area from the front page (or adding only to inner pages)?
Also, in the spirit of trying to help you improve it, the design needs a lot of work. Perhaps it's in the beginning stages and you have a lot yet to do. Currently, however, it's not pleasant to read or look at. From an outsider's perspective, I wanted to leave the moment I landed on it. I mean absolutely no offense and want this to be some helpful, constructive criticism. As such, here's a few thoughts for improvement:
1. The top image/logo is poor quality and it doesn't respond to smaller screens.
2. The solid black background and lack of color makes the site feel unapproachable.
3. The bold red borders are too much. With all that red and black, again, it doesn't have a friendly/comfortable feel.
4. The page titles and additional headers on many of the pages make the text appear jumbled.
5. The images are low quality. I believe it's better to use no images than to use poor images. I'd check with the client to see if they have anything better.
6. The navigation spanning the full width of the screen when nothing else does looks weird, especially in that location because it's kind of cutting the page into sections.

Ren VenturaMemberThat code alone won't output any posts. It simply forces that page to be full-width, adds the title (you need to use remove_action to remove it) and shows the content of the page. You have to run a WP_Query to get and show your posts.

December 7, 2014 at 8:24 am in reply to: Website went down when i tried to make it more responsive #133881Ren VenturaMemberYou probably have duplicate opening PHP tags. You'll need to access your functions.php via FTP or something like the cPanel file editor to fix the error.
When you copy and paste snippets into your functions.php, remember that you are not supposed to include the opening PHP shown in the snippet. The snippet's comment //* Do NOT include the opening php tag is to let you know that the snippet goes within the already open PHP tag.

Ren VenturaMemberJust took another look and it all appears to be working.
A couple things I noticed while inspecting your site:
1. You're importing the core Genesis style.css into your child theme rather than using a completely separate stylesheet. This isn't the best thing to do because, if any changes are ever made to that file in a new version of Genesis, it could cause problems in your layout. Since the Genesis Sample child theme is identical to the core style.css, you should use this file to build on so you don't have trouble down the road.
2. There are a lot of JavaScript errors. If you take a look at your browser's console, you'll see dozens of errors about frames related to advertising being blocked. This might be something you want to look into.

Ren VenturaMemberI'm not real familiar with the Simple Hooks plugin but it looks like you didn't add any markup to the content. This means that the section doesn't have a structural wrap, thus it has no margin alignment. In the very least, you should wrap the content in a div tag with a class of "wrap" and something else to uniquely identify that area. For example:
<div class="wrap services-footer-area"> Service Areas </div>
This is a very simple/minimal example of the markup you'll need. Depending on your requirements, you'll likely need more.

Ren VenturaMemberThat's a strong possibility. It sounds like you're on the right track. Take a look at all of the files that are involved in outputting the form in the modal and see if you can find anything that would indicate limiting the output based on the values of the first post. Unfortunately, I cannot be more specific without seeing the files. If you would like to throw the child theme on GitHub, I (or someone else) can have a peek.

Ren VenturaMemberThat sounds like a serious issue that you should bring up with Ninja Forms. Although I don't use Ninja Forms, I've never heard of any plugin randomly deleting all of its own data.
