Thanks for replying, Robin and Susan--
I do have FTP access, and I will try that; and Susan, I know I've seen that Header and Footer Scripts place (LOL) but I never did anything with it myself. Will try that too.
    Thanks again

Thanks, Robin. I thought this way looked easier, since I don't understand what to do with the html. Can you explain that briefly? I never do any of those things that require me to put in html because I don't understand where to put it.
If you could help, I'd appreciate it, unless the answer is too long.
    Thanks again

    Hi Anitac--

I cured the column-width problem by re-installing my Yoast SEO plugin. I have no idea why that worked, but it did. I am just going to accept that for now.

However, I still would like to know what I can do about the "home" page and how I can either access it to see how it is set up or I would like to make my blog page my "home"--without a separate link being there.

    Not an emergency any more.

    Thanks

    Paula

Yes, that is what you are supposed to see. The "pins" and "boost your mood" are in my footer areas, and I am working on repositioning those a little better right now. They are where they are supposed to be.  It is that "Welcome to my blog" and "previous posts/archive" that are in the third column and that are not fitting up next to everything else.

Under my header, it says "you are here: home" and then under that are 7 posts (that don't have any problems that I can see)--that is my content column. To the right, under the "search" box/bar, is my primary sidebar, which has "what we're talking about" and "topics" below that. If you keep scrolling down, you will see the content that is in the secondary sidebar (third column) that says "welcome to my blog" with black type underneath and a small thumbnail. Except--that column is squished way down because there is no room for it, since the first, content column, is way to far to the right.

(I know about the footer areas----I am working on those, I just haven't decided all the content for down there, and I am prioritizing my emergencies  😉

Do you see that when you arrive at my blog, the formatting doesn't match anything that is on any other section of the blog? Even though it says it is "home" according to the breadcrumb navigation words, there is no "home" that I am aware of.

    This is very confusing!

On the front of the blog, as soon as you arrive, there are 7 post excerpts listed down a column; to the right of that is some "sidebar"-type info, again a list of posts, and some tags. If you scroll down, the material from the secondary sidebar, in black lettering, is way down below where it should be.

It is all the same content that should be on all of the pages, (except on other pages there will be just the posts that belong to that category).

My default layout is 3 columns (Prose).  The worst problem now is that my columns are not correct, and I think it looks bad.  BUT I think the other problem is that somewhere there is some "home page" instructions that I can't see and can't change that is telling this supposed "page" what to do (even though I have deleted the page named "home"  in order to correct my formatting disaster (as described in my previous question).

I hope you understand...if not, I will find another way to say it.

    Thanks

    Paula

I am going to start a new thread, since I don't think I explained my problem well enough, and now I have fixed my formatting problem by changing my "home" page setting, but I am back to where I started...

    Oh no!

I created a "page" called "home" and set it as a "blog" page (and default is still my 3-column page) and in Settings-----Reading I selected the page as front page (it designates it as a static page, which I am not sure if that is right)...

and now ALL my pages are one column and all messed up (header not aligned correctly, footer area all messed up, one widget in footer not showing)--What have I done?

    THANKS!

    Thanks for replying!

The Footer #1 and #2 are not sidebars, they are in the footer area, at the bottom of the page.  But I think what you are saying is that there is no room for more, just one in each.

(I looked at the link, but those instructions are usually over my head, because I have no experience with this) When you say:

    .footer-widgets-1

do you mean that is how my CSS adjustment should start out, or should I look for that area in my css.style page??  I know I can make CSS changes in my custom CSS area, I just need to know how to start out my first line.

One other thing---my comment box is only three-sided: top, bottom and left--the right side is  cut-off (invisible). Is that a column-width thing, and if so, what does the code look like/start with so I can adjust the correct one?

    Thanks so much

    Paula

and, I am starting from scratch on all my adjustments/design settings.

Is there anyway I can copy this section of the theme for future reference in case this happens again?

    Thanks

    Andrea--

I just submitted my support ticket, so I guess you can let them know to disregard it.

My host assured me that the database is there, as I had emptied it ("drop" was the term I clicked on) and reloaded my backup file into it. So, I think that would have taken care of replacing my changes, wouldn't it?  (I really don't know what I'm doing, and that is why I am in this trouble, and why I have been working on this for a month now...)

Is there a way to upload/FTP this other backup file I have (NOT the SQL one) into a Genesis section of Filezilla as opposed to the WP or Prose ones I have been replacing? I don't want to end up erasing everything!

    Thanks

    Paula

Maybe this file I have (my backup folder)  needs to be "FTP'd" up to the GENESIS theme, and not my Prose theme.--is this possible??

Hi--I am looking at the garyjones page you sent to me, and he talks about editing the css----that is not what I have lost. I never change in there, since that file will always be overwritten with new updates.
The area I want back is my (on toolbar) GENESIS ----> Design Settings, which are global styles, font colors, margins, wrap, navigation bar and box colors, etc. Shouldn't those choices be something that is saved if my theme has been saved?

Well, after reloading the file via FTP numerous times, my changes still haven't returned. Simple Backup apparently does not work; does anyone have any recommendations for a backup system that will actually restore your blog to its previous state?

    Thanks--
