You can keep the file names the same because they should all fall under the new /child-theme/folder causing no discrepinces.

I'm also unable to get the Home Middle & Home Bottom areas to show up...it's probably something silly. Any suggestions?

Hang in there jgentry!!! I was the same way, but you will pick things up very fast. Once you do, it's extremely rewarding 🙂

If you have photoshop, I'd suggest creating a custom header using your theme's header dementions. That way you can just upload it ready to go. (Always 'save for web' as well, large images are one of the largest problems resulting in slow sites)
